Unread - A Group Text Sims 4 Mod

πŸ’¬ Unread β€” a group chat for your Sims

A proper app on your Sims' phone, sitting alongside the stock ones. Make group chats, put whoever you like in them, and watch your Sims talk to each other about things that actually happened in your world. πŸ“±

Base Game Compatible. No packs required, all packs supported.

πŸ“± It is a real app on the phone

Open your Sim's phone and Messages is there in the grid with the rest of them, with its own icon.

Inside it: your chats, the unread count, and every conversation. You can also reach it by clicking your Sim, in case you have a mod that rearranges the phone.

✍️ Realistic Chats

  • Name it whatever you want β€” type it in, no preset list

  • Add people through the picker β€” the one with Sim portraits that party invites use

  • Add and remove whoever, whenever β€” up to eight people per chat, twelve chats per phone

  • Everyone in a chat can open it β€” switch to your daughter and the family group is on her phone too

Names carry the relationship so you always know who is talking: Eli (husband), Penelope (daughter), Alex (dad). It works out grandparents, aunts and uncles from the family tree.

🌍 It talks about your actual world

Thirteen things can start a conversation, picked up automatically as they happen: promotions, demotions, new jobs, jobs lost, weddings, divorces, pregnancies, births, deaths, house moves, birthdays, mastered skills, and new faces moving into town.

And they gossip about people who are not in the chat which is where half the fun is.

🎭 Everyone sounds like themselves

The same news reads completely differently depending on who is in the room. Each Sim's reply is chosen by their family relationship first, then their traits, then how they actually feel about the person being discussed.

One promotion, three people:

Cassandra: well. they gave me the promotion

Bella: I am so proud of you. genuinely

Mortimer: who did you have to step on for that one

Alexander: our parents are going to be unbearable about this

πŸ‘Ά Every age has its own voice

Children and teens are in the chat too, and they never borrow an adult's words. Same baby announcement, three ages:

  • Child β€” "A BABY. can I hold it"

  • Teen β€” "congrats! that is exciting"

  • Elder β€” "a baby in the family again. marvelous"

Kids get their own things to talk about as well school, friends, food, whatever they are into, and being profoundly bored. Teens get homework and opinions. πŸŽ’

πŸ—£οΈ Start the conversation yourself

Say something lets your Sim post without waiting for the world to hand them a topic. What they can say is built from their state β€” the time of day, their traits, whether they have a job, and who is in the chat.

You: work is being work today

Cassandra: same honestly

Bella: grim

Mortimer: imagine complaining about having work

A Loner at 2am has different things to say than an Ambitious Sim mid-shift. And the room answers in character.

πŸ’— What you say matters

Every message you can answer offers written replies specific to that event β€” kind, joking, blunt, or just leave it on read. They nudge the relationship gently.

Being supportive during somebody's worst week does help. Ignoring people repeatedly cools things off. Both sides move, not just yours.

πŸ”• It will not spam you

Chats are bursty β€” long quiet stretches, then a flurry when something genuinely happens. Nothing is generated as filler.

You only get a notification for the big things: a breakup, a death, a baby. Everything else waits quietly to be read. And a chat only discusses people somebody in it actually knows, so unrelated groups stay out of it.

πŸ›‘οΈ Built to stay out of the way

  • βœ… No hooks into game code β€” it watches the world and compares, so it stays out of other mods' business

  • βœ… Fully translated β€” all 27 language slots filled

  • βœ… Saved per save game β€” chats never bleed between saves

  • βœ… Base game. No packs, no XML Injector, no other mods

πŸ’» Install

Drop both files into your Mods folder:

  • Unread.package

  • Unread.ts4script

Turn on Enable Custom Content and Mods and Script Mods Allowed in Game Options β†’ Other, then restart.

⚠️ Script mods only load one folder deep β€” Mods/Unread/ is perfect, Mods/Scripts/Mine/Unread/ will not load.

Then open a Sim's phone and tap Messages. Children and older.

πŸ”© Extras

If you like cheat commands, Ctrl+Shift+C:

  • chat.status β€” every chat, who is in it, what is unread

  • chat.census β€” sweep the world now instead of waiting

  • chat.kinds β€” everything it can talk about

Thank you so much for the support, it genuinely keeps these coming. πŸ’–

Okay, I’ve really been enjoying this mod! I know I’ve already commented on a couple of your other mods, so I swear I’m not trying to sound like I’m complaining πŸ˜‚ I genuinely just really like your mods and keep thinking of little things that I think would be cool to have included. I LOVE having group chats because I’ve always wanted something like this for my Sims, especially since I play with big families. I do wish there wasn’t a limit on how many Sims can be in one, though. It would be nice to be able to have the whole family or a bigger friend group in the same chat. I also wish low/bad relationships didn’t affect who could be added. One of my Sims doesn’t have the best relationship with one of her daughters, so she can’t even be included in their family group chat 😭 I’d also love to see more variety in the responses and things they can actually talk about. After playing with it a bit, the conversations can get repetitive. Maybe different topics depending on their relationship, age, traits, etc. And honestly, I think it would be really cool if we could even type our own response or at least have a few different responses to choose from. These are just things I’ve noticed while actually playing with it, and I think they’d be really fun additions. I know you’re still working on the mod, and I really do love what you’ve done with it so far! 🀍
