Your Sim works a double, skips sleep for three days, sees nobody, and does nothing they enjoy. Then they nap for eight hours and wake up completely fine, because the base game has no concept of a Sim being tired of it all.

Burnout gives every Sim in your household a slow-moving meter. It fills from long hours, bad sleep, never switching off and never seeing anyone and it only empties when they actually rest. 😮‍💨

📉 A slow burn, not a light switch

The meter is sampled every Sim-hour, and how far it can move in a day is hard capped.

As shipped:

• About six days of a genuinely punishing life to burn out

• About five days of real rest to come back from the bottom

• A balanced Sim never drifts upward at all

🔥 Four stages, and one with teeth

• Worn Down — it has been a lot lately. Nothing serious yet, but it is building

• Running on Empty — still getting through the day, but only just

• Burnt Out — everything is too much. Work performance actively starts slipping

• Coming Back — the worst of it has lifted. Rest actually worked

That third one is the consequence with real weight: let a Sim run into the ground and their career quietly suffers for it. 💼

Click any Sim and choose How are you holding up? This is the part I care most about — it does not just hand you a number, it tells you what is causing it and what would actually help.

Five things fill the meter: the hours at work, not enough sleep, never switching off, no one to talk to, and running tense all day. The readout weights them against each other, so you can see whether it is the job or the insomnia doing the damage. 🔍

🛡️ Built to stay out of the way

• ✅ Overrides no EA tuning and replaces no EA function. It reads motives and career state — it never intercepts or changes anything

• ✅ No hardcoded IDs. Motives are looked up by tuning name, so packs and patch day do not break it

• ✅ Only your household is sampled, so it stays light

• ✅ Saved per save game — different saves never bleed into each other

• ✅ Base game. No packs required, all packs supported

💻 Install

Drop both files into your Mods folder:

• Burnout.package

• Burnout.ts4script

Turn on Enable Custom Content and Mods and Script Mods Allowed in Game Options → Other, then restart.

⚠️ Script mods only load one folder deep — Mods/Burnout/ is perfect, Mods/Scripts/Mine/Burnout/ will not load.

🔧 Commands

Ctrl+Shift+C for the console:

• burn.list — everyone on record

• burn.show — open the readout for your active Sim

• burn.set 75 — force the meter, for seeing the stages straight away

• burn.tick — run an hourly pass now instead of waiting

• burn.reset — clear every meter

If you would rather it moved faster or slower, every threshold and daily cap is a single number at the top of meter.py. 🎚️
