D&D 2025 Monster Manual Monsters Added to the Artisanal Monster Database
Hello, friend!
With Wizards of the Coast releasing a significant amount of D&D 2024 material into the Creative Commons through the 5.2 System Reference Document, I was able to add 318 new monsters to the Artisanal Monster Database from the D&D 2025 Monster Manual.
You can find the Artisanal Monster database here:
https://slyflourish.com/5e_monsters/
and you can download your own local copy here:
https://slyflourish.com/5e_monsters/5e_monsters.zip
The Artisanal Monster Database now includes nearly 3,000 monsters from Level Up Advanced 5e, Tales of the Valiant (through the Black Flag SRD), Tome of Beasts 1, 2, and 3; and the Creature Codex. Monsters are formatted in HTML with a link to each one for Markdown – perfect for your Notion or Obsidian notebook.
Enjoy!

Hi Mike, a 'returning supporter' here. I am obsessed with Obsidian after watching how you use it and am getting my campaign organised in Obsidian as we speak. I intend to use your template but am having a noob problem. I cannot work out how to use the 'Attachments' folders. It seems like the sample jpg you have in there cannot be manipulated at all, and i also cannot work out how you got it there. When i place a jpg in a new note it shows up as a link and i can manipulate it, but not the case with yours. (Sorry if I'm not being clear here, it is hard to describe in writing!)
More generally, I see from your campaign snapshot that you somehow are adding whole pdfs or jpgs as 'notes' or within folders. Can you point me somewhere that will teach me how to do this specifically?
Hi! New supporter here but been following your stuff for years. In your "Using Obsidian for Lazy RPG Prep" article, you mentioned that Patreon supporters would have access to your Obsidian campaign templates; I can't seem to find them Also, do you happen to have any Obsidian files for your Lazy DM's Workbook?
Not Mike, but I think it’s cool if users answer some questions. If you look under Patreon Rewards, then look for Tools and Services. The Obsidian Vault should be in there.
What's the best method for adding this to an Obsidian vault?
Hi Daniel! Here are my recommendations: 1. Download your own copy of the AMDB so you have a local copy. 2. Use the AMDB to find whatever monster you want for your game. 3a. Copy the markdown of that monster into your notes as desired. or 3b. Link to the monster in your notes to either my AMDB or your own copy. I wouldn't put 3,000 markdown files into a directory in your obsidian folder. That's a lot of stuff to index. You can, pretty easily, drop all the AMDB markdown files into an obsidian directory but it slows Obsidian way down because it has to index all those pages.
Anyone know if someone has done something similar for Pathfinder 2e?
With the monster DB and the dice roller, if you write an encounter tool the Sly Flourish GM Toolkit (tm pending) will be complete! And you will conquer... the world?
