Poll: Animation
Hello to everyone reading. Some time ago we found a very good animation artist and decided to try adding animations to the game, starting from something relatively simple, the Main menu.
The animation came out pretty good and we think is of high quality. Together with the artist we analyzed the game and pointed out some moments where his work would be relevant. In the future, we are hoping to be able to plan out scenes with the fact that we can animate them in our minds, so that we can make them truly EPIC! Though some scenes will still only contain still images.
Now, the main question: Do you want it?
Animating scenes and optimizing the animations is a very hard job (ahem, and expensive...) and takes a lot of time, so we'll have to restructure our development process a bit so as not to slow it down in general.
If the majority of our players decide that animation should be included in the game, we will set a new project goal which upon reaching it will enable us to actually hire the artist (we'll decide the goal's amount after consulting with the artist himself after you decide whether you want animations in the game or not).
Time to vote! We need to know your opinions! Thank you for participating in the poll! See you all in the next post.
P.S. There are no animations in the game as of right now, we're still working on optimizing them.
P.S. For some reasons Patreon is compressing gifs in posts, here's the original file: Mainanimtion-with-dust
Yours,
Shadow Portal team.

Still waiting for this :)
... it has already been the 14th january.. what timezone are you in so i can check it out when the right time of the release comes?
UTC+2 standard and UTC+3 summer time.
shouldnt there be a release for the v0.14 today?!? i have been waiting for this update since i completed v 0.13.1.. anyways you are so slow these days
Hi! Since the last update came out at 23-59 on the 31st of December, basically right at the beginning of a new day, we are releasing it on the 14th of January.
When will it be released v0.14 ? I hope before the end of the year.
Здравствуйте, хотел бы узнать, на какой стадии сейчас новая версия, спасибо
Привет, вы можете увидеть прогресс текущего обновления у нас на главной странице. У нас возникли некоторые проблемы по этому обновление немного задерживается.
Hi SP! Are you planning to continue feeding events? =)
Hi! Of course we are, though not in the upcoming update (well, kind of). We have several interesting ideas about these events.
Downloaded version 0.13.1 for Mac. Had previous played 0.11.2 for 28 'days'. When I start in 0.13.1, it shows 28 days and is in the same part of the game -- only problem is that Sarah's items (e.g. lingerie) are not there, so cannot do so much. How do I get that back?
Hi! If I understood correctly, you loaded a save from an older version of the game? If you did, that's the problem, saves are not compatible cross-version. Instead of them, you could use the "start from new content" function to not have to skip through the stuff you've already seen. But that's only available if you haven't skipped any updates.
is that animation going to be done soon or do we have to wait until next update to see the beautiful animation of my crush of Sarah
That animation will be added to the main menu as soon as we solve the problem of optimizing it.
So all of this wouldn't impact on the usual delivery schedule?
We are going to arrange everything in such a way so that the schedule would be impacted as little as possible.
Prioritise the animation for last. The most important is prioritising the storyline first. There's so many games out there that are doing v well because of the storyline and progression, not the animation.
Of course! No aspects of the game would receive less attention just because animation became one of them.
I think that animation looks really good, would like to see more of it, but if you feel it takes to much, or is to costly, I don't know.. but I voted yes, in any case...
Thank you for sharing your opinion!
if i can be honest, i dont like the idea of animation, could take too much time to do, will take off all the lore and only based in visual porn.. and i like more the interactions in cuts, cuz they are so fucking funny xD if animation is incuded it could be better to do it like another panel, in the main menu add the animation for certain escenes.. and not to the game cuz that will take a long shit to do xD
Hi! Animation will be an additional feature and we will give you the choice whether you want animations in your playthrough or not, nobody's going to remove what there's in the game right now. That's (hopefully) easy to do. And, of course, not all scenes in the game will be animated anyway. So, as I said, animation will be just an addition to the game which you'll be able to easily ignore.
Personally I would just like less Stukov and more Zerg on Kerrigan action. Animations are cool but typically very time consuming, I would think of those only after the alpha project is completed.
Ahaha, now that's something we can agree with! But unfortunately we can't just jump over part of the plot or release everything at once, but expect some hot stuff pretty soon.
Animation is very abitous. To what extend to you intent to animate a scene? Like 3 picture loop or completly smooth animation like in the Mainanimation-with-dust? Of course everybody would choose a good animation over still frames, however it is very difficult to judge whether spending 10x the amount of time on one scene is really worth it. I would like to see a "food" animation for reference first before deciding to have every scene like that.
Well, we included the example animation for a reason. We are talking about adding animations to the game similar to the one shown above. Animating scenes does take a huge amount of time, but since we are hiring another person to do it, we are trying not to change our development process too much. We'll discuss making another example animation with the artist.
I only want it when it doesn't delay releases which it probably will
We are probably going to publish updates that add animations separately from the main ones. E.g.: we publish an update wich only contains static images and some time after the release of it we publish another version of the update which adds animation to the game.
I am voting "no" not because I dislike the artist's work, but because I am leery of adding to an already ambitious project in this way.
Thanks for sharing your opinion!
Take my god damn money
Ha-ha.
