Switching to Subscription Billing

I just want to put out a notice that I'll be switching to Subscription Billing away from First of the Month Billing soon. Patreon has been pretty insistent in getting creators to change over for a while now and they've recently been making another push. Patreon has set a deadline (November) for a mandatory change but I've been considering making the switch early. While the way I structure how I deliver rewards was based around first of the month billing, I don't think it'll impact things too drastically.

For current patrons, nothing will change. You'll still be charged at the beginning of the month and Monthly Illustration Poll and everything else will still be running on the same schedule.

You'll only see the difference if you unsubscribe and resubscribe at a later date. You'll be charged on sign up and again on the same day the next month until you cancel. There's some upsides to this, it should prevent people from getting two charges close together if they join toward the end of the month. The change should also mean that new patrons will be able to participate in the next month's vote if they join after the current month's poll has ended.

This may be a little annoying for some new subscribers to not have subscriptions grouped to a specific day every month but unfortunately it's kind of out of my hands. I'm still looking into how this has gone for others but Patreon has been pushing this pretty hard for a while now and even if I don't switch over early, I'll likely be forced to at some point.

Again, if you're currently subscribed and not planning on leaving for a while, you won't see any differences. I just wanted to keep you all in the loop.
