118 - A Whit In a Manger [Whit’s Endless Summer 31]
The lads celebrate the peak of the Arguing Season by returning once again to Odyssey for more adventures in being called to the ministry, making a radio drama, and visiting Bethlehem just so you can be harassed by Roman douchebags. Topics include the vanishing of the Barclays, the brilliance of Will Ryan, and what it means to celebrate the Nativity while Gaza turns to rubble.

ironically Derren Brown's magic show on faith healing was what made me step away from the Pentecostal church LMAOOOO
Inanimate transformation tgtf and also a "sorry you have to be a barmaid now on short notice and get harassed by the patrons" this is pornography for the most repressed people on the planet
Nicholas Adamsworth also gets a cameo in aio’s comic series in “the acolyte” arc. I don’t know this solely because I frequent the Richard Maxwell-related media, definitely not. I’m normal about this shitty shitty character
I think the gender reveal being cut off by the plane was lifted from the ending of patriot games?? Cause ya know all us kids raised listening to odyssey were super up to speed with Jack Ryan lore!
My headcanon is that all the No No Door sacrifices are in preparation for Eugene's ascension to the church
Whit's AI narrations are all being powered by an LLM trained on Dare to Discipline
Also, as a former girl who still wants to fuck richard maxwell, I didn’t expect to be scalped and gagged in my own home. Which one of you fuckers commented on at least two (2) of my aio hornyposts advertising this podcast? It worked, but hey 😠
I mean, if Whit isn’t gonna fuck Digital Blackgaard… it’d be a shame to let that go to waste. (Also I’m starting a rumor that Scott Cawthon definitely stole the idea for Glitchtrap from aio, now that AJ has made the prediction it’s not spoilers)
Brian’s whole speech at the end was BEAUTIFUL. I think more people need to hear it. Merry Christmas to all .
In reference to the mazel tov misunderstanding. I got to around 16 or 17 thinking molotov cocktails were called mazel tov cocktails, just based on the pronunciation and assumed they came to notoriety as a weapon by Jewish fighters in World War 2
mazel tov cocktail goes hard as a war cry ngl
This raises the question, is there an imagination station setting that would make a child participate in the conquest of cannan or killing Philippines with the judges.
Weirdly, the stories of the Judges are almost always presented as Kids Radio news stories, like in the Sodom and Gomorrah episode.
Happy holidays lads ♡
Did not expect to get triggered listening to some nosey church busybody asking a child in That Tone® when they were going to start in the ministry, yet here we are. Can also anecdotally attest to the difficulty they're having finding replacements for pastors at these small evangelical churches that are really just entrepreneurial adventures for A Certain Kind Of Man® who has confused being "clever," vaguely charismatic, white, and (usually) tall with Having Heard From God. And they're confused as to why they cannot seem to breed their way to sustainablity...
Happy Holidays to you and your Gokus
Omg. I had Back to Bethlehem on cassette tapes when I was really young, so hearing this is going to bring back so many earworms
I actually grew up with the cast recording from the '92 Donny Osmond revival of Dreamcoat on rotation with Odyssey & Veggietales & other evangelical media as if it was of that same ecosystem - I'm not sure I even knew it was a play instead of just an album - and I'm sure I'm not alone in that experience. In fact I suspect Dreamcoat's pop-culture pastiche and non-heretical irreverence is a formative wellspring for a lot of the American protestant kid's media playbook - at the very least I don't think it's a coincidence that every Veggietales episode that tells a bible story is more of a riff on Dreamcoat than it is the Bible; ditto for those horrible cursed megachurch plays and the whole Vacation Bible School industrial complex. I'd love to hear an episode from y'all on it not just because of this angle but because I'm always interested to hear theater people's take on this show, because most theater people have a history with it too but a totally different parallel history from mine.
Donna truly is the Susan Pevensie of Adventures in Odyssey. spectacular episode lads, please do not make them all like this
That was a beautiful heartfelt ending message, thank you.
I really, really hate these people’s idea of how Jews speak
Uuuuhyi.
Well done Bryan <3
This might be the best episode so far. Love the chaos energy
As the owner of an actual pipe organ emporium I just want to say that you should please come in and play the older models - those are my resume!
Also where did you get the organ recording of Imogen Heap
I love how you guys are explaining the background of Adventures in Odyssey to potential new listeners but none of your bits. Brian keeps doing the setup to his leather bar joke with no payoff
RIP James Randy, a couple of his friends do the podcast Oh No Ross And Carrie, which does some awesome investigations into various pseudo sciences and cults.
"Booger, Bladder, and Hotdog." Biden is Brian's grandad confirmed.
Booger? . . . Bladder? . . . Hotdog? . . . What is this? . . .
I fucking cried. Thanks, Brian.
We didn't have a TV growing up but I would listen to just the audio of the Simpsons on my dad's ham radio. It absolutely works as a radio drama. I remember the sounds of groundkeeper Willie chasing Lisa through a junkyard in the episode the girly edition to this day.
I really appreciate how Lorne is haunted by Imogen Heap in the interstitials. I've gained a whole new love for that song.
The "we're all wearing turtlenecks" and "gotta do something about all these broads in church" bits had me cackling.
You can tell that Katrina's family aren't Christian because they eat brunch. I think it's proof of Will Ryan's charisma and skill as an actor that he has me thinking "We love a guy who says 'heretofore'" "The PTA Disbands" is a straight banger of an episode
more like grossmas
