16 - Odyssey Salutes the Troops! (feat. Nate Bethea) [Whit's Endless Summer #7]

The lads enlist Nate Bethea (What a Hell of a Way To Die, TRASHFUTURE) to help battle their way through some of Adventures in Odyssey’s most patriotic episodes. They discuss the cliches of war stories, the manufactured outrage around flag burning, and getting uncucked at the hands of Dr. Beans.

grew up in a town an hour north of Grand Rapids... hearing mention of Down Gilead Lane for the first time in maybe 10? 15? years? gave me full body chills

So many years later to the party but dear god, Mormons have such a persecution fetish. (Grew up Mormon) We are not that different even if it doesn't look the same lol

I went to a standard public school in the Midwest and Christianity was so damned normal it was basically assumed. I remember having the option to get on a bus on Wednesdays in elementary school to cut classes and go to church. I wasn't heavily religious but I went to church with my grandparents and was interested in the novelty of being allowed to just skip half the classes once a week. Plus sometimes there was singing at church. Funnily enough, one of the adult chaperones for these church outings accidentally prompted my first serious questioning of Christianity.

Malanga is used for a common fritter in Haiti, I wonder if one of the writers did questionable mission work there and the word stuck

I think insulting Queens listeners might do the opposite of turn them off this channel.
