237 - The Trump Prophecy (2018)

In 2011, as he sat in his recliner in the liminal state between asleep and awake with Fox News blaring, an Orlando firefighter named Mark Taylor received a message from God: the man yelling about the devaluation of the dollar on TV right then would be the next president of the United States, serving for this nation as Benjamin Neteyahu had for Israel. Four years later, when Donald Trump announced his candidacy, a woman named Mary Colbert and her husband Don cited this “prophecy” to convince evangelical Christians that they should back him, conveniently raising their own profiles in the process.
While evangelical support for Trump has remained overwhelming and steadfast since then, events within the past few weeks have raised serious questions about the durability of Trump’s appeal to Christians. This week, Josh and Brian read the 2017 book The Trump Prophecy and watch its bizarre Liberty University-backed 2018 film adaptation of the same name to try to figure out how evangelicals coalesced behind Trump so quickly and strongly, why the state of Israel is such a pervasive rallying point for them, and whether things can ever change for a group of people willing to believe in a fire lieutenant and self-titled prophet who also goes by the name Shakina Kami.

Japanese Christians use the word “Deusu” specifically to avoid association with Kami which an entirely different understanding of divinity to the Abrahamic religions
The Isle of Mann is not part of the uk it is a country under the sovereignty of the crown which is different somehow
This……… I
How sure are we that they didn't hire Ray Boltz to write the gay man's choir song? 😝 He is gay and lives in Florida afterall. (they DEFINITELY modeled the song after his 90s songwriting)
Josh: “If you know any of these names, you need to go to the hospital: David Barton…” Looks like I may need to call an ambulance…I was subjected to that guy in person at a “Worldview Weekend” I was sent to by my Christian high school
So, was it actually cum?
It’s the pig.
This guy's writing sounds like if Half Life Full Life Consequences did Shakespeare fanfiction
If I woke up to a vision of flames and heard someone's voice, I, as someone who was Southern Baptist and Catholic at one point and spent a bunch of time in church as a kid- would assume that was a bad thing
Dutch Sheets sounds like a nickname the Klu Klux Klan would give to a boer who joined the klub
People who think/claim god is sending them signs are SO FRUSTRATING. As someone who grew up in the shadow of Turfway race track every word of this lady's Derby story is making me crazy. First off, big horse races are always on Saturdays, Thursday races are for gambling addicts. Second, Creator came in 13th the Derby. He did win the Bellmont (also a Saturday) that year A RACE ONLY WEIRDOS LIKE ME CARE ABOUT, so either this lady "forgot to check" for FIVE WEEKS or she saw that a horse named Creator won something and backfilled this nonsense story.
This post has been verified by real Umamusume patriots
You know what? I just want Josh to talk about marathon now
As a bitch who's gender is incompetent i feel seen
I had pointless conference call flashbacks when you guys played the hold music.
That there are angelic choirs which sing "Holy! Holy! Holy! Holy & exalted is the Lord of Creation" is know & attested by mystics, prophets, & thieves of the Throne. Much less known less attested is that there is the Angelic Comments Section &... it is THE WORST
Lol the vision while asleep on the lazyboy reminds me of how I'm pretty much guaranteed to get sleep paralysis/lucid dreams every time I fall asleep on the recliner 🤣
Put on the programmer socks, Shakina.
Shakina Kami sounds like someone who'd have 2-3 pop/rnb hit music videos on MTV in 2002 and then completely drop off the face of the earth.
can we get some "God has damned America: may His name be praised!" bumper stickers on the next merch drop?
Even when I knew it was coming, I got jumpscared everytime my nickname was said during this episode 😭 Also I think I'm entitled to financial compensation for having to hear shofar pronounced that way
The more I learn about these Christian propaganda movies, the more I see them as outsider art, which I feel is an insult to the works of Wesley Willis.
I think that team is called the Manxmen. Hitchcock made a movie about them, I think.
I've melted my brain listening to TWOAPW while depressed and now the holy spirit is telling me a horse is gonna be president
i love that shakina is not in any way like the word shechina at all. like. the way hebrew works is that words have root consonants. the root consonants in shechina are sh, the guttural ch, and n. the k sound is A DIFFERENT SOUND it would mean A DIFFERENT THING
Shakina Kami
Tayshaun Prince
Needs more Burpo
The Bible actually does rhyme in the original African
It's crazy how China doesn't even need to try that hard to look like the better alternative to the rest of the world. The United States is so clearly loosing its fucking mind, spiraling out of control in Imperial Collapse.
"I just want to end it right here." Me too, Bryan.
I haven't seen Phenomenon is years but it wasn't bad. The bar dancing scene was fun
"From the Gospel of Seuss" was an underrated joke.
Would love a Liberty University episode
Would transition have saved Shakina Kami?
I will actually be in Flushing Queens next week with my dad, so sad that I missed Brian’s show (:
you better be going to a mets game
The laugh at 1:16 is incredible, I listened to that clip 3 times over
Viz anti aging, do you guys know the work of Alan Resnick? Live Forever as You Are Now is seeming increasingly prophetic year by year
Josh singing the Cisco hold music triggered my PTSD
For strange nerd reasons I speak a bit of Hebrew, and Japanese, and Id like to thank Brian for raging at that. There are so many more wrong details, but enumerating them is pissing in the ocean of piss
Tayshaun Prince was the fifth Piston you were trying to pull (apologies if you eventually came around to that, I'm not done with the episode yet)
lol of course I hit you remembering it RIGHT after I posted this
Would transition have saved her?
Somewhere in an alternate universe, Shakina Kami is on twitter vagueposting quotes from hot allostatic load after getting in an argument with a south asian person about her name
Never forget the time that Pat Sajak went on Twitter to do a PSA for Christmas shoppers and it was just the maximum value you can get caught shoplifting without catching a felony.
This one is horrifying on a level that other episodes about the evangelical project don't reach
TWOAPW x Knowledge Fight would be an incredible colab.
Who up pondering the Godly Dialectic?
That laughing jag that Brian went on is giving me life, and I lost it when he transitioned to Gollum.
My brother went to Liberty University for a Digital Communications degree. One of his main professors worked on this film.
"Memories of a Dad" sounds like a true tour de force
The real issue with the idea of the UK national team scoring on bayern münchen is the fact that ones a (not real) national team and the other is a german club team
