Fancy Movie Time #33: Yi Yi (2000)
On this episode of Fancy Movie Time with Brian and A.J., the Fancy Lads head to Taipei and dance with the pigeon man as they cover Edward Yang's coming-of-age drama Yi Yi (2000). Do the film's novelistic approach and impeccable characterizations make it a Fancy Feast? Or does its vibes-based tone and myriad of plots make it a Failure to Fancy? Man, someone Alforded all over that introduction. Thankfully I enjoy that sort of thing.
The Cabinet Countdown begins now
My life insurance policy expressly stated that the initial two years of the policy would not allow payout for suicide. Insulting. Rude.
“Sukiyaki” mentioned~ (If you wanna ruin your day and throw shit, look up Japan Airlines Flight 123. All the other famous music-related plane crash incidents were small planes. This…wasn’t.)
Ue o Muite Aruko is such a lovely song. You can find 60s recordings of the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen (4 hour new year TV concert) where Sakamoto sings it live in different arrangements. Such a talented performer.
I love the Mr Fancy Movie Time bit, please keep it forever.
Also Stuart Gordon did a serialized space opera comic book play called “Warp!” Which I would kill to get the script of
Animation on fancy movie time I am no longer asking
