193 - Beyond: Two Souls (feat. David Armstrong)
David Armstrong (Bonus Action) and the lads grab their ghosts and join the CIA as they cover Quantic Dream’s 2013 horror/sci-fi trainwreck: Beyond: Two Souls. Topics include David Cage’s whole deal, the intuitively unintuitive controls, and what it means when your storytelling is so bad, not even Elliot Page can save it.
Bonus Action: Hail and well met, Peaches! Adam and Jay from the reaction channel pReview’d have started an Actual Play TTRPG channel with their DM friend David Armstrong. Come by Mondays at 7pm EST as your #internetbestfirends, along with their comedian friends as they goof and gab through the magical world of Wild Country.

steam is now selling this game for 2 dollars lol
I can't believe you got David Cage to appear in this episode.
Beyond: Two Souls fun fact! I have a friend who works as a games journalist, and she negatively reviewed this game. David Cage, being a normal and well adjusted man, when he saw her at GDC trapped her and another female writer in a room and screamed at them both about how they didn’t understand his vision until he was removed by his own handler.
Yikes!
The lads are content alchemists, turning shit into gold.
GHOST TRICK MENTIONED GRAAAAAAAHHHH (it’s my favorite game ever thanks for mentioning it fellas)
the rapping dog from the titanic animated film is a fucking sentence lmao
I need you people to stop doing French accents so horrible you’re just doing a bad Dutch accent.
This is one of like, 4 games my ex liked, and had to play through it at least twice
I get David's hang up about not wanting to see characters get hurt. I had a hell of a time playing RDR2 because I just kept refusing to participate in stuff, so much so that most of the game was Dutch et al. yelling at Arthur because he wasn't moving, or was walking into a lake. I skipped a lot of checkpoints.
of course i'm listening to this while i'm in mulhouse
The evidence builds for a secret Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron episode hidden in the TWOAPW vault
Alternative title, Beyond Two: Souls
Loving the quantic dream episodes, sorry that you had to play all that garbage
Josh playing Blue Prince instead of this game is objectively the correct thing to do. :P
By the way, I learned “there’s a place on Mars where the women smoke cigars”
how would they smoke cigars when there's no atmosphere????
For demographic info I was in Arizona basically from 2-12 and it was "there's a place in France where the naked ladies dance"
Man not know in this game, when AJ first brought up Kazirstan and mention it being made up. I didn’t realize the game made up a place called Kazirstan. I thought for a second AJ was horribly mispronouncing Kazakhstan and thought it was made up for Borat! Sorry for doubting you AJ!
I just started listening, but once I realized that this was going to be about a terrible video game, that you all hate,I decided it would be more entertaining for me than an average video game episode. I love listening to people complain about things they hate as long as the things are ultimately not that important. Out of curiosity, what would be an actual good game for people who have never played games before?
ik it's been over a year but whatever I'll give some suggestions anyway! Sort of shotgun on story genre. Simple mechanics, 2D+3D, that might help get you used to using a controller/common game mechanics and dont have many hard fail states: antichamber, beholder, the cat lady, card shark, paradise killer, portal, the witness, west of loathing, superliminal, night in the woods i think superhot would probably be good for learning FPS games (none of the others are), and there are lots of great point-and-click type games that don't require maneuvering in a virtual space if you struggle with that. I'm a deck-building and sokoban enthusiast so my suggestions would largely fall there, but there are lots of good visual novel-types too!
David sounds like Professor Doofenshmirtz 🤣
Screaming, crying, throwing up etc. very excited to listen and hope y'all make it to the rest of the Quantic Dream ouevre before long, Detroit especially
I cheered so loudly when I saw the notification for this episode pop up on my phone this morning.
"Because in spite of all their rage, they would still be trapped, in David Cage." ... *sigh*
Did you guys do an episode on Control?
The Ryan/Jodie background music at 49min had me primed for wailing woman from Witcher 3. Game could benefit from some Silver for Monsters
@09:44 thank god i put the baby in daycare before this episode
48min mark: filing this in AJ's dossier under "we always kinda knew didn't we" if allegations ever come out
Oops I made the bad game
NGL, looking forward to the compilation of different AJ's Horse Corner at the end of the year cause they have been on fire.
shout-out white santa!
Y'all gonna revisit Disco Elysium when the Android version comes out?
This is a hurtful thing
Finally I have been WAITING for this gem. So glad you all lost your minds with this awful game. David Cage is a hack of a writer and it drive me insane people think he's great. Can't wait to see Cage fix racism next time in Detroit.
Nobody should ever play Omikron: The Nomad Soul so I'll inform everyone that in it you play as a Gamer from the real world body hopping between people and one of the first things you do in the game is possess a guy and fuck his wife with his own body. In an interview David Cage said that this was the kind of strange situation he wanted to explore in his games. Horrible pervert
One of my very first freelance jobs was doing some marketing/online graphic design for that game
I think the perfect way to describe this game is: "Are we hooked now? No, f*ck you."
Alright, fine, you got me to become a patron.
You're going to love Detroit Become Human when you get to it
Is that sarcasm or do you mean that? Because it can be either one.
I'm 15 minutes in and already this episode is a hall-of-famer
Aite you heard the lads. Time to push for an Indigo Prophecy episode by bumping our patreon tier sub.
The sex scene in Omikron the Nomad Soul is it's yet another case of Cage being a rape obsessed pervert. The whole gimmick of Omikron is that you the player are the Nomad Soul, and you start the game possessing a guy named Kayl. You then go home to Kayl's apartment where his wife is waiting and she immediately wants to have sex. If you tell her you're not Kayl she asks if you're alright, at which point the player lies to her and just claims to have suffered memory loss. Then the sex scene happens. To be clear, she is acting under the assumption she's sleeping with her husband, and not some creep in his body who knowingly lies to her. Omikron starts with a sexual assault by deception that is treated like a typical video game sex scene. The game never acknowledges how disgusting this act is, and Cage has talked with glowing pride about that scene. He does not get 1/10 of the hate he deserves.
Im so glad someone else remembered that part of Omikron, its such a fucked window into Davids mind
The Remedy slander remains insaaaane to me, but I'm glad we can all agree that dunking on David Cage is a spiritually fufilling activity <3
