Devon (Kill James Bond!) and the lads return to Odyssey for more adventures in valentines, political blackmail, and volunteering for the Vietnam War. Topics include the logistics of Roman marriage, the intangible dread of grief, and what it means when the great loss that hangs over your entire series is a character as objectively terrible as Jerry Whittaker.

Kill James Bond! is a comedy film review/ pop culture commentary podcast about the portrayal of masculinity in cinema. November Kelly, Abigail Thorn, and Devon have watched Bond movies, War on Terror movies, Eurospy movies, and now they take on their biggest task yet: Heist Movies. What can Heat, Oceans’ 11, and the Fast and Furious movies teach us about how masculinity was imagined by the people who created them? What does that say about Society? Free episodes are released every fortnight on all major podcast platforms and bonus episodes are released for supporters on Patreon on the interstitial weeks.

Listening to this in mid October, when Christmas has already conquered the stores for a month because germany hasn't yet heard that Halloween is a thing
When the not J Jonah Jameson said "where'd you take these pictures?" I heard "Where'd you take these bitchss?" And there was a half second where I thought the VA just snuck it through
I (a non Christian non religious kid) had the Narnia collected books. My favorite was The Horse And His Boy because it had the least amount of Aslan ( who I found annoying without knowing he was supposed to be God) a spunky female protagonist a sassy talking horse and a guy who was just there. RIP Shasta they did you a great injustice when they like retroactively made you a prince.
The best part of Silver Chair is Puddleglum: The only sensible character in an adventure story.
RIP BOZO to jerry o7
Aw, damn, I thought when I saw the guest that you got Devon from Kill Jan de Bont. Much less centrist.
I've read all the Narnia books at least five times each, and The Silver Chair was my favorite as a kid. :-)
Incorrect dawn treader is far superior
i really like the idea of an episode of a kids show about depression ending with the moral "some day you will ache like i ache"
Great episode as always, it was fun and educational. However, Petey's heartfelt statement during the Interstitial was something else, both in text and how emotional his voice sounded. I listen to you on long drives on the highway and if there had been a rest area coming up I would have stopped and walked around a bit. Instead I turned you off for a few minutes and just sat there in the relative silence, thinking about life and loss in general and how I miss the relationship I had with my best friend before I screwed it all up and what could have been. I almost dread what will happen after the cliffhanger, but I'll listen to it anyways because maybe there can be happy endings after all...
Just got laid off from the NIH (my dream job) last weekend. Thank you so much for the kind words and empathetic portrayal of our collective situation. Despite knowing how being called a "bad worker" is a lie by this administration, damn if it doesn't hurt to read and unwillingly internalize
Dear god the actor who played Connor in the cast recording was named Mike coincidence I THINK NOT Anyway I hope aj knows I’m writing fanfiction for my own personal consumption based in the world of his aio au. The fucked-up eldritch horrors and gay bar slash pipe organ repair shop is just what I needed
The interstitial got me right in the feels as someone who's very close with a friend that recently lost there husband. Watching someone navigate grief is heavy. Thanks for all the laughs
“Forgive me if this is an intrusive question, but why precisely does she need help from doctors” is such a nice way to ask that actually. And once I got to the interstitial, hearing “Petey Pounderoga” in a Dublin accent, was entirely too funny.
That guy saying “JULIA!” is the angriest I’ve heard anyone sound saying that name since watched Brideshead Revisited! It’s downright Shakespearean. And the lack of enthusiasm with which Valentine says “you have a lovely daughter” is so disappointing as someone who likes these sorts of plots. The girl doesn’t even sound scared enough!
The interstitials always manage to slap me in the face (Positive)
So interesting to hear the memories of jerry episode as an adult, I have really clear memories of that one because it was such a formative and viscerally upsetting episode for me as a kid. I heard it young enough that I didn’t really know what the Vietnam war was and had to ask an adult what being drafted meant. I remember thinking okay, so the government is trying to send these guys to kill people and die, and Plato doesn’t want to kill people and die so he’s running away- that’s OBVIOUSLY the correct thing to do!!?! I remember thinking that Jerry was unbelievably stupid and that Jason was mean for making fun of Plato’s long hair lol Phil lollar accidentally made me vehemently anti-war and anti-draft at the ripe old age of 7💪🏻
GAY massachusetts mention 💪🏳️🌈
I would hate to be Dear Evan Hansen'd
The problem with all the AIO episodes is that they activate the editor lobe in my brain where I’m like okay this is bad and propagandistic but a few tweaks could make it less stupid and maybe better ideologically even if it think that ideology is evil and wrong (have Julia bring him flowers cause she knows flowers are soft and a something people bring each other as a sign of affection and she brings him roses cause they smell the nicest but maybe she’s also clipped off all the thorns in a sign of wifely devotion etc etc)
….maybe gay rights HAS materially made right wing propaganda stupider by starving it of a talent pool
"Arrr, ye be harkin' me royals and topgallants!"
Yay, Petey!
I’m so invested I can’t believe it
That jailer sounds exactly like the arkham city penguin
My favorite credit for Mary Kay Bergman is for the Iron Giant: "Hogarth (screaming and sleeping vocals)"
Nothing but respect for the brave boys fighting the war on Christmas.
some of us are workshy AND depressed. where's OUR parade
The editor of that tabloid newspaper sounds like John C Reilly to me ISTG.
AJ, I swear to god what you are doing with this plotline has me fucking riveted. Like, I love the rest of all the Whit's stuff, but it's like getting two shows in one.
Technically Saint Valentine was the Poke-saint in charge of epilepsy until a specific Japanese episode that had to be pulled off air.
we better be slapping floors in April
Yesss, always more Devon ❤️
