Basic and Complex Needs Brainstorming Recap + Last Brainstorming Session + Poll
Hello everyone,
Sandrine here! I’m ready to share with you the summary of the latest community brainstorming session and the new theme. Note that this Patreon post is for Patrons only so please don’t share it. Thank you!
Basic and Complex Needs Brainstorming Recap
We’d like to thank you all for participating in the Basic and Complex Needs brainstorming session. We gathered your ideas from the comment section as well as from Discord and Reddit. Here’s a general summary of the ideas that stood out to us. Please keep in mind that if you don’t see your idea there, it doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t be taking it into account when working on this aspect of the game. In the same way, listing the ideas below doesn’t guarantee that we will add it to the game either since we will be focusing on the most important features first in order to be able to release the game. More interactions and features will be added overtime after launch.
🎨 Needs would vary depending on the Parafolk’s personality. For example, a Parafolk with a passion for art would need to make art somewhat regularly to feel happy
🎭 Some secondary needs suggestions considering they could vary from a Parafolk to another: alone time, freedom / free time, time with family, time with friends, arts and crafts, nature, fitness, cinema and literature, etc.
👨👦 Children could have different needs than adults which could change when they grow up
🗨️ Some needs could decrease faster or slower according to a Para’s values or personality. For example, an extrovert would need to fulfil the social need more often than an introvert
😣 A too often ignored need could be harder to fulfill properly. For example, if your Para has been in isolation for a long time, they would need to do more than just have a chat with a simple passerby they don’t know to get their social need fulfilled
😢 Needs could be harder to fulfill if a Parafolk is not in a good mood. For example, a stressed out Parafolk could have trouble falling asleep and their need might not be fully fulfilled when they wake up in the morning
🗓️ Setting up a routine for your Parafolk’s daily needs. They could get up at a specific time, go to the toilet, and then shower without having to ask them everyday
🍽️ Some basic needs could take up less space over time. For example, it would get faster for your Parafolk to prepare their meal as they buy the right kitchen appliances and/or gain more cooking experience
😴 Realistic consequences for a very low need. For example, a very tired Parafolk could become clumsy, be on edge and fall asleep when watching television
🛁 A hygiene need could be ignored for a long time even when critical depending on the Parafolk’s personality and attention to cleanliness but would affect their social interactions and perhaps relationships
🥱 Parafolk animations could reflect what specific need has to be fulfilled soon
👭 Separate social needs for family and friends
📈 A Parafolk’s social need could increase faster when talking with someone they have a good relationship with, but much slower if they don’t like the person they are talking to
🍎 Being able to snack while doing another activity such as studying or helping a child with homework
🚿 Being able to choose between a quick shower only to fulfill a hygiene need or a long shower for self-care to also increase comfort and influence the Parafolk’s mood
Here’s a word cloud to see what has been mentioned the most in the Patreon comment section of the previous brainstorming session:
Results of the poll on the Needs brainstorming post showed that most of you would like fulfilling needs to take up less space on a day-to-day basis. From your comments I could see that you wanted a good balance so that it is not too easy but you don’t spend over half of the day fulfilling basic needs. We’ll keep that in mind as we refine the design of needs and balance the gameplay.
Since the last brainstorming topic was shared on April Fools’ day, I also asked you for your input on cat whiskers and some of you replied! Here are some of your recommendations:
Whiskers long and adorable as possible
Rescue cats who lost their whiskers
2 long and flowy whiskers like some dragons have
Frizzy whiskers for stray cats
A chef cat with actual kitchen whiskers
Last Monthly Brainstorming Session
That’s right, this month we will host the last community brainstorming session. With these 16 community brainstorming including this last one, we find that for the time being we have gathered enough information for the design of the most important features of Paralives. It is possible that we host more of these sessions in the future but I can’t guarantee it yet.
This month’s last but not least brainstorming session topic is all about Pets! To get started, you can ask yourselves the following questions:
🦜 Dogs, cats and horses are confirmed for the game. What breed would you like to see in the game?
⚾️ What kind of pet furniture and items should there be in Paralives?
❤️ What kind of interactions should a Parafolk be able to have with their or someone else’s pet?
🥫 How complex should a pet’s traits and needs be? What would be different reactions they could have?
😱 How could pets and wild animals impact Parafolks physically and emotionally?
🩺 What kind of pets related jobs would you like to see?
We’d love to read all your ideas in the comment section of this post. As usual, we will open this brainstorming session to the public next week on Discord in the #pets channel and on Reddit.
Happy brainstorming!
Poll: Pets
This month's brainstorming poll question: If we could add only one more pet option to be added to the game, which one would you want?
You can answer in the poll below. If you can think of something that is not in the options, don’t hesitate to share it in the comments.
Have a good weekend everyone! 😺

I want an invisible dog and people think you crazy
I really hope you add breeds like poodle, portuguese water dog and Lowchen, and have options to have them in their traditional breed cuts (like continental clip, lion clip etc! I know a lot of people find those cuts ugly, but for me and a lot of people involved in those breeds they are really important! In general adding the fur patterns/cuts that are part of different breeds standards would be awsome! But no matter which breeds or cuts you add I'm very excited for the game, looks like it will turn out great!
Alligator will be nice.
horses 🐎
I’m glad bird won roxanne, who used to be on the team, would be very happy
It would be interesting if a veterinarian with a certain level of experience could find a deceased wild animal and be able to approach it and cure it (maybe a wild horse got hurt while jumping a fence and can only walk around, but limping). I also think that personality in animals should take a major role in their life, especially in terms of gameplay, it just lights up the household! When I think about my pets, I also think about their traits (grumpy or just extremely lazy), so it would make sense for their traits to impact more, since their needs are quite simple. Lastly, please! I want to be able to walk my five or six dogs all at the same time and not having it take forever. Maybe there could even be different ways to walk the dog (or a cat/rabbit/ferret), depending on what they are trained for (a dog who can walk next to the para or has the loyal trait could be leash free, if they are training to be able to do that maybe you can do it as well, but there is a risk of them running away).
What about snakes?
Sometimes pets could bite paras (seriously or not) and paras could develop a fear of those pets (if their nearby they'll be stressed or scared etc)
If you add birds I would like you too do some research on them and their needs. Birds, and especially parrots are very often depicted in media in cages that are to small and with no other birds. I’m gonna talk about parrots because those are the types of birds I know most about and the ones that are most often pets. But parrots are flock animals and are not gonna be happy alone, even if that get all the social interaction from their human. They need other birds too. The cage can not be to small especially if that is where they spend the most time. The size of the cage depends on which bird type and how many there are. But most parrots need time outside the cage. Parrots are also really smart animals so they need toys and enrichment to not become bored. But yeah, I just don’t want birds to be like this item that is stuck in their tiny cage if they are added because they are very smart and social animals
I would love it if the pets would sometimes do funny typical things like sleeping in the closet, or run against the windows, or stare at the sealing corner, or make funny noises, or bring home a mouse ( with Cats). Yust like the funny video's of animal’s. Thas would be amazing
Late response, but I chose chickens because I really love the idea of having a farm, with a garden and a barn and a chicken coop w/ chickens, cows to milk, and a horse. I don't need pigs, or llamas, or goats. Just a little cute farm.
I would totally love it if the paras Personality also had different animation reactions to things, though that is a lot of work
This is late to the post but I like the idea of having both pets that are physical and walk around and what not like cats, dogs, horse etc. But I also like the idea of pets you can have that don't take alot of attention all the time. I sometimes find having animals, children, partners, family, friends, etc. All in one household can make it difficult to play because they all take up so much time and they all have needs that need to be filled equally. I like the idea of like having a pet bird that sits in a cage. It can fly around the space maybe and interact with the paras by sitting on shoulders or perching somewhere else in the house and singing them or talking to them but ultimately they live in a bird cage and that holds all interaction choices (other than maybe a few for a bird if it does have a flying around and perching animation.) they still need to be fed and what not but just aren't as full on as having say a dog. Hope that makes sense ❤️ - just like to add. Much like having a fish. Stays in its bowl, had to be fed, can be talked to and count as animal and pet interactions that may add to a paras mood but doesn't require alot.
The thing with most birds is that they need a lot of attention tho. I think a better example would have been hamsters.
I'd honestly love to see any less common pet, (Like a bird or a rodent) that isn't ''bound'' to it's cage. It's very annoying in other simulation games, when you only have a few interactions with a small pet and it's dependent on the cage etc.
I feel the same way about rabbits. Real rabbits can be house pets like dogs and cats. I hope they aren't bound to their cage (if that one gets added).
One of those round cat running wheels could be fun! =D
I'd love to be able to have wall mounted cat furniture that you can link together throughout the house so the cat can travel from room to room on them. Little bridges, platforms, climbing posts. I've always wanted to turn my real house into a cat jungle gym.
Other: Snakes! :D 🐍
I love the thought of birds or snakes as pets! I'm strongly a dog person but my boyfriend loves birds, I think he would be thrilled if there were pet birds in the game :)
A ferret or weasel
I think I'd prefer pet traits to be relatively simple. I love pets in games, but allowing them to be relatively non-complex will allow owning several pets to be more feasible without causing undue stress. I think they can still be destructive, but have bad traits (not potty trained, destroys furniture, etc) capable of being trained out and replaced with good ones. I think having a few purely ai-driven wild animals could also be fun. Maybe occasional birds (attracted to the lot if you put out a bird feeder/bath), but also wild raccoons, reptiles, large insects, etc. Also for a future update, farm animals would be really cool! But that would add a whole new dynamic to the game that feels more major patch/expansion-worthy than base game worthy. As far as interactions go, I think having animal phobias could be a fun addition! So we could have paras who are frightened of dogs, snakes, or insects. Alternatively we can have paras who have a Disney-princess-esque bond with nature and attract wild animals to follow them, giving them some sort of mood boost for being one with nature.
I love all kinds of animals and I would love to have an option of having reptiles, fish, rabbits and so on. Only choosing one though...my initial thought was to choose Hen/Chicken/rooster seeing it's also functional, producing your own eggs and perhaps even fertilizer for your crops. However, I ADORE birds, they are soooo cute and the chemistry between birds and other pets are so amazing. So I chose bird. more comments on it are weaved into the answers below. 1. As said above, I love all kinds of animals and I'm also the ultimate dog person. Give me all kinds of mixed and pure breeds and I'm happy! And since I chose birds in the poll I'd like to add; if they make it into the game, don't forget ravens and such. Although they might have different needs than a bred parrot, maybe need to go out into the world sometimes and hunt their own food, it'll be more like a wild companion/best friend than a pet. 2. Well ofcourse we need different types of beds for every animal. Dogs need to have beds for indoors and also dog houses for outdoors, cats sleep wherever but most beds I have experienced are either stolen dog beds or the ones on a cat furniture with multile levels and sctratch poles. I also think cats should have toys they can hide in, like small, cozy cave beds and maybe even catron boxes. Horses need a lot of space and it would be nice to build your own stable, but you could always add the premade stables we can just put inside a barn or something. Birds should have their cages but I would also like to add an indoor tree, or branches you can put around your house so your bird can fly/jump around how they like for exercise. Maybe even your cat can use the tree/branches... Thinking of birds I also get fond memories of TS1 where the parrot was a tool of learning charisma by talking to it while it sat on a pole. I'd love that to still be a thing! There will be so much text if I should list all of the items I can think of so I'll just add one more thing and then leave it. Agility and horse jumping. 3. Let's start with birds. Charisma skill by talking to them, maybe even singing skill. Teach htem how to say/sing/whistle different phrases and melodies. Train them in the art of not leaving your shoulder when your outside, could start off with a lead and then end up by just calling them over and walking around with them in public, or at home. Dogs need to take a walk everyday, it's a must BUT a short walk should be around the house, and a long walk should be through the neighborhood (not the entire day and night not listening to your or your dog's needs (looking at you TS4)) and when the needs of either of you get low, go home. Also when on walk we should be able to release them from the lead and let them play. I've never had a friendship with either a cat or a horse even though I love the animal so I don't have much to say there, but make sure you can have normal walks with your horse aswell, one of my real collegues usually goes for a walk in a lead with their horsem and practise competing at a racetrack on weekends. Need to add, the interactions between the animals is a must! Like the bird riding the backs of all the other animals, or maybe just playing peek-a-boo with them. Also birds like to mess around. Maybe the cat likes to sleep in the stables with the horse, or maybe the dog and cat sleep together in the dogbed. 4. At this moment I'm not very sure on how to answer this question, I bet others have much more valuable answers. But I'd like to say I want the animals to feel as if they have personalities. Maybe they can develop a phobia of something they experienced as young (vacuums, snakes in the grass, cars, blankets). 5. Well physically, horses and dogs provide exercise in different ways. Cuddles are always good for both your physique and mental health. Talking with animals help with social needs and make you feel loved/listened to and strengthen your bond with the animal, wild or not. But I also love realistic gameplay so not everything with animals are fantastic. They get sick or get into fights and you have to treat them, they can scratch/bite people they don't like or when it gets too much, which in turn should give some negative status on your para. Maybe if a child para gets injured by an animal they develop a fear/phobia of that animal or of teeth/claws. 6. It would a little fun if you could have your pets work as actors. There are also the alternative of having service dogs for impaired/disabled Parafolks. Maybe your dog and horse can also work for the police/military. And if your Para is in the police force/military maybe your dog/horse can be part of that. If there will be depression in the game, heavily depressed Paras should be able to assign for a pet to help them feel better. So not a full adoption, but the government of the town let's you pay a small sum to own a pet to help with rehabilitation. Or maybe you can send your pets to a home for the elderly to help brighten their day. If reptiles/birds (the more exotic type of pet) make it into the game you could start a zoo or have your pet work as an ambassador to teach other Parafolk more about wildlife and the different personalities of all animals.
Please give us snakes and lizards at some point…us reptile owners really feel like we get no representation in games sometimes (especially looking at you, Sims 4)
It would be cool to be able to mix breeds when making a pet
I think it would be amazing if pets bonded differently to each family/household member. Maybe the cat only really likes one para but the dog is protective of the kids and loves everyone, etc
Bernese mountain dog please!!!
Yes!!!
Please add Siberian husky and a malamute dog breed to the game. Would love that! I would also love it If you can go on short walks with your Dogs or long walks when there is more time so you can decide to have a quick walk before work.
When discussing needs draining, you could always make an adjustable scale in the settings. So that needs are adjustable for the people who want to spend more time doing them and for the people who want to spend less time doing them. Just a thought! :)
But because you have horses I think it would be cool to do other farm animals
A pig 💗💗💗💗💗
I love that dogs, cats, and horses are already confirmed 💜 For an additional species I think hens/roosters would be great. Parafolks can have a hobby farm with hens/roosters that allows them to produce some of their own food. Enclosures for hens/roosters can be relatively small and fit in the yard of starter homes. Having this option could be really helpful for parafolks starting off with low funds. They may also have the ability to sell the goods they produce from their chickens to others for additional income. Maybe in the future, similar types of animals can be added for small hobby farms like goats or pigs. For horses there should definitely be options to house them either on the Parafolks' property or off-lot at an equine center. If their horse is off-lot then they would have to hire someone to take care of the horse for the times they are too busy to stop by. Otherwise, the parafolks will have to physically go to the equine center and complete tasks to maintain their horses' health and happiness. (Refilling water/food, cleaning stalls, brushing the horse, cleaning hooves, replacing horseshoes, taking them out for rides, etc.) With horses there can be multiple businesses related to them. For example, the equine center itself can be a place of employment. There is a need for large animal veterinarians separate from regular vets for cats/dogs. The large animal vets can have their own lot or be attached to the equine center. There can also be horse trails and horse racing/competition stadiums. Large animal vets and horse trainers can be a couple other employment options too. Super excited for pets 💜
Monkey
For dogs, I think there should be a focus on the type of dog, hunting or herding for examples, and the unique challenges they have. A herding breed is going to be pretty energetic and require a lot of walking to prevent destructive behavior in the home or allow them to herd animals if they will be added to the game. A hunting dog should require some type of scent work, through walking or training to prevent destructive behavior.
omg ferrets <3
I also think it would be cute if cats could play fetch as well as dogs - some cats (often Ragdolls) like to play fetch too :)
And I just remembered it would be good if pets could sit on paras' laps for cuddles :)
And animals I think would be good options for additional pet species eventually: rabbit (dwarf rabbits would be nice as well), rat, hamster, guinea pig, parrot, fish, spider, snake, lizard, tortoise, pig, donkey
Breeds: Ragdoll, Maine Coon, Siamese, Bengal, Abyssinian, Singapura, Persian, Norwegian Forest Cat, Turkish Van, Egyptian Mau, Cornish/Devon Rex, Manx - and I think it would be a good detail if breeds somewhat affected personality, e.g. Ragdolls are more likely to be needy and Bengals are energetic Objects: leashes for cats and dogs, different types of pet beds (wall mounted beds? radiator beds?), cat wheel? Needs: I think cats should have a scratching need and may destroy the furniture if there is no scratching post. Also pets misbehaving if they're very bored. I think it would be a good detail if long-haired cats needed to be brushed more. Interactions: making food for the pets, bathing the pet, pets playing with and grooming each other, being able to pick up and cuddle pets, giving pets little kisses, being able to ask/hire someone to care for pets while you're away (maybe also the option to put them in a pet hotel?), being able to put a cat or small dog in a pram, throwing parties for pets, pets following people around the house if they like them, pets sharing the bed with their owner, maybe cats could sometimes interrupt paras who are working from home, pets being able to detect sickness, stressed animal-loving paras wanting to cuddle with their pets to calm down, teaching dogs and some cats to do tricks, entering pet shows, rescue a pet and try to gain their trust Jobs: vet, pet groomer, pet trainer, dog walker, pet sitter, animal sanctuary volunteer (not a 'job' I suppose, because it's not paid, but I think it would be a nice option to have paras volunteer to help animals in their spare time)
I would love to have my blue & gold macaw recreated in game, even if it’s just having my Paras care for a generic B&G with her name in the info bar lol
a dog walking/sitting service to either hire or have as a job for your own para would be cool! also praying for corgis and chickens 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I know pets are so hard in terms of breeding, but all I have to say is every pet IRL is so unique I hope they can be in this game too! So proud of y'all!
Rabbit 🐰 please 🙏
It would be cool if we could get random variations within the same breed too. Like for Blue Merl Australian Shepards, they come in so many patterns and different color distributions. It would be cool to select a breed and then shuffle so you can randomly get different coat changes. Also being able to adjust the size. My Australian shepherd is 80 pounds, and was almost 100 at one point. She is Massive for that breed. Most are way smaller.
Also if we get birds they could talk! Ravens would be cool along with parrots.
Also Main Coon, and Norwegian Forest Cats would be great, they are massive fluffy cats.
Love this - definitely should have different body types and sizes for pets, not just different sorts of fur on the same “skeleton”!
It would be awesome if some animals could be trained to act as emotional therapy pets, and even guide dogs. I hope if witchcraft ever comes in future expansions that pets could also be familiars. Also there should be a reaper pet to take away a pet spirit when they die! Like a skeleton dog In a black shadowy close holding a cute little scythe in its mouth.
Another really good breed for little dogs are the shitzu/miniature poodle mixes.
there needs to be Australian Shepherds! They don’t have tails, but they wiggle their butts anyway! :)
I love the idea of having ferrets or lizards in the game, that sounds so cute! And I hate to bring up a sad point, but if you plan on including death in the game (as it is a life sim), do you plan on having a reaper of sorts? Cuz something that bothers me a lot about the sims 4 is the fact that their pets just lay down and pass. It's too sad for me (I'm a baby). I liked how the sims 2 handled it- Grim showing up and inviting the pet into the afterlife with a toy or treat. I have similar feelings about elder sims passing on too Sorry for being sad; I would've rather made this comment on a more relevant post (one about aging or lifespans) but I think I missed my chance
I see Lizard doesn't seem to be that popular :( when it comes to dog breeds I'd would love to see Rottweilers and American Pitbulls as well as Alaskan Malamutes and Chowchows. I don't know many cat breeds but I think those naked hairless ones are cool especially since I'm allergic to cat dander.
🦜 I am quite deep into dog breeds personally, so I would love to see them all, though that sounds impossible haha! ❤️ Maybe "ask to pet"? 🥫 Either that it's different depending on the breed (for example retriever dogs loving to play fetch, more active breeds wanting to go for more walks and more relaxed breeds wanting to embody a couch potato), or that the personality affects all of those things. But I would specifically love if an animal would greet people differently depending on their relationship. For example my cat always wakes up from his nap and goes to greet my family at the door when we get home, but runs and hides if there's strangers at the door. 😱 For me I would like the interactions to be affected by the paras experience with animals and their personality. For example an adult who's had animals their whole life gets so happy when seeing an animal! While someone who's young and are scared are, well, scared. 🩺 Perhaps dog trainer? Also be able to compete in for example agility (rabbithole thing) would be so cool!
It would be so lovely if animals greeted people :)
Rabbit 🐰 please 🙏
The vet career, animal control to get the dangerous wild animals out of the para-world, animal trainer for "movies" or "circus" or household training, "cat lady" or "animal hoarder".
horses
man its kinda sad this is the last one. also i have had a tibetan terrier, a french bulldog, and an american staffordshire terrier/chow chow/shih tzu mix so those breeds would be nice (and a way to make muts/mix breeds)
Insects or bugs
A pet pig 💜💜
I'm mainly curious about wildlife now, like will there be a lot of wild life (insects, snakes, etc) and wild animals decorating the world around paras? If so, will the paras have limited interaction with them (feeding like throwing bread/birdhouses or animals being able to eat out of their hands, rare petting, wont run away if around people a lot but cant pick them up)
Pet accessories I'd like to see: backpacks where you can carry your small dot or cat in those see through back packs, different types of leashes, Pet cushions and pet beds Dog houses Umbrellas Clothes like shirts or boots for cats and dogs to wear Different types of toys Pet doors that attach to regular house doors Interactions i'd like to see between paras and pets wojuld be pets could pick up when their owners are having a bad day, sad, or grieving a loved one. They could cuddle with them, lick, or do an adorable gesture of putting their paw on the para like 'I'm here for you'. I'd like if paras could hug and pick up their animals and give them kisses. Pets knowing their para owners routines, being able to make our pets have a routine. Pets being trained to go to the bathroom outside. Being able to have paras give their pets table food/share food or treats
For pets, birds or reptiles would be a nice extra. The other options are furry animals so feathers or scales would be different until there's an update/expansion or whatever you guys decide to call it. Another suggestion that could be purely aesthetic to begin with, would be some wild birds in the sky. Again, down the line some wildlife would be nice but just to start with, it would be nice to see some life around that's not domesticated, even if it's purely just for looks.
Vet, groomer and pet supply shops* would be nice. Maybe also have the option to have the pet looked after by another para, whether paid or for free. *This may be a regional thing but pet shops here do not sell cats and dogs. Usually they only have rodents and fish to adopt (they are from local shelters) or to buy.
Ohh I like the idea of having an option for pet sitting, like if the pet owner needs to go somewhere and can’t bring the pet with them
lots of good animal choices! i think the farm animals could be saved for later. i would love to see fish added with both indoor fish tanks and also customizeable outdoor fish ponds.
I know from experience that cats don't need that much furniture. Lay down a carton box and they are happy XD
I’d love a dog groomer career, and definitely the ability to make mixed breeds! Oh and I love the idea of kids being able to keep a pet rock haha
I would like a terrarium with various pets and a pet shop (not a rabbit hole).
My sister wants either snakes or horses
I really would love to have kunekune pigs 🐖, and snakes!
honestly I'm already insane in the head that we'll get horses. If any other pet was introduced though I'd love birds for their ambiance. Hearing them chirp giving positive moodlets/curing tension and having paras sing to them? love
Oh and another idea for pets! Maybe cats and dogs could sleep in the same bed as the para and cuddle through the night that would be so adorable
I think the animations for that might be difficult, but I love the realism. On that note, when Parafolks are “woohooing”, having the family cat just stare at them with that all-knowing look of judgement.
Also apart from pets it would be really cute if sometimes during fall a Hedgehog would walk around the house at night and eat from pet bowls if they are outside. Maybe you could befriend the hedgehog by giving him food and talking to him and eventually be able to pick mushrooms or other things from his pointy back.
Being able to be somewhat self sufficient through farm animals would be really great. Like having hens and cows that produce eggs and milk that would be organic. Maybe that could add better flavour or some kind of emotion to the food.
I really really hope that you're planning on putting off pets until after release. I don't think this is a necessary component of the game and would like to be able to play a finished game sooner rather than later. And pets really don't *need* to be in launch of the game.
The roadmap they shared shows that pets will be implemented during the Early Access phase. So, yes, they'll work on core features and we'll play the game before that comes.
I really want pet snakes. I can't have one in real life so I really want my para to have one.
what kind of pet furniture: modular wall walkways and other wall-mounted beds/bridges/etc for cats interactions: i would LOVE to see pets be able to sleep on the bed with paras even if the bed is fully occupied by paras. dogs at the foot of the bed, cats on your pillow, cats sleeping on top of para's waist/hip etc 🙏
I'd also love pet rocks. I just think it would be funny. Also maybe tamagotchi style games for those who are allergic to pets could also be cool. Obviously it wouldn't be the same as having a real pet but I could see it filling a somewhat similar role, especially for a kid who might grow attached to it. Maybe Paras could collect different "tamagotchis" as well and have like a virtual farm/ranch, sort of like a mix of a tamagotchi and Pokemon. I think it would be good to have some alternatives to pet ownership if it's possible to have pet allergies in Paralives.
Would love to see tibetan terrier dogs. And dog doors so the dogs can let them selves out in the garden.
I hope it's possible for pets who dont know paras and are protective could bark or growl at other paras who are strangers, and also even at other animals. As for wild life animals I hope they have both good and bad experiences, like maybe bird could poop on a paras head, animals could bite, sting, hiss, spray (skunks), cause damage to property, scratch. While the good would be wild animals who are used to being fed by paras could visit them maybe the ability to pet them if they build trust. Also if it's possible maybe wild animals could potentially become a paras pet. like a racoon or a bird etc.
Also maybe wild life could just put paras in good moods or bring them peace when they hear the sounds of the night and/or day
This is highly unlikely but since it's illegal in real life, I would love to have a pet bat in the game. I know with COVID and such people may be VERY against that. But I love bats and they are so cute!
Bats they're like dogs but chirp like crickets! Lol. I hope they make it into wild life animals that come out at night
Alpacas please? Or even goats- it would be super cool to integrate farm life into the game. Cows for milk/meat, sheep for fiber, etc. Or the ability to farm/homestead for a living
I would like there to eventually be all the pets mentioned in the poll as well as snakes, spiders, sugar gliders, pigs, monkeys, cows, sheep, llamas, chicks, foxes, bears, pandas, raccoons and unicorns!
Q: What breed would you like to see in the game? A: German Shepherd, Chihuahua, Foxes ⚾️ What kind of pet furniture and items should there be in Paralives? I would love to see wombats in the game. They are normally in the wild, but can be domesticated although temperamental
Parrots and crows, please and thank you
I would adore to have my pet snake in my game, but I would settle for any reptile (Spider would be amazing though).
Capybaras are a must.
Hens, let there be hens and roosters. If they could also lay eggs and breed little chicks - that will always be in danger of being kidnapped by an eagle - ow, my farm dreams 🥰.
SERVICE ANIMALS! thank you for coming to my tedtalk anyways this is so exciting! I’d love to see pet training and even being able to train cats like sit, shake, retrieve?, etc. i’d love to be able to take cats on walks just like you can with dogs. When it comes to damage, it drives me absolutely nuts when sims pets absolutely destroy things, i think it would be cool if it was breed and age dependent and like minimal damage so you can repair furniture instead of having to buy a whole new couch or whatever. i’ve had puppies, dogs, cats all my life and no dog i’ve had has completely torn anything to a pile of dust lmao. Just realistic to a point. there should be cat trees in more than one size for all spaces, i know we’ll have a color wheel🥰, but there should be a one bed like small cat tree then sizes bigger and bigger to have like a whole castle tree. i think that would be really cool☺️✨ thank you to all the paralives team❤️ you’re doing gods work
Love the ferret suggestion! Having an assortment of exotic pets that are either less customizable/uncontrollable/some other handicap would be a fun addition and possibly something that could be easily expanded upon over time.
This is amazing! I would like cats to sit on paras' laps while they are doing other things, like using a computer or reading. Maybe have the para pet them once in a while if that animation isn't too complicated.
For dogs, I have a soft spot for shih tzus and malteses. Usually long fur is just for show dogs, so I would like to give them short fur (maybe fur grows and you need to take them in for haircuts?). Chihuahuas are also cute. A friend has one and he's a sweetie. I'll also tentatively add pugs, though I have strongly mixed feelings on them (intentionally breeding them is messed up, but i love them in that it is not their fault that they were bred to have health issues) Pets should definitely have personalities, even if it's fewer than paras have. And dog training should really be done for any dog, so until that's done there are problem behaviors like excessive barking, pulling on leash, biting, and difficulties interacting with other dogs due to lack of socialization. Getting an older dog from a shelter (sometimes "problem dogs"), they might have problems due to their previous owner not caring for them properly. A lot of the time it's trust issues, anxiety, or clinginess. So it would take longer and more work to build your bond.
Snakes would be nice!
🦜Birds are very complex and intelligent creatures, and I would love to see them in the game. I think they would add a fun and different aspect to the gameplay compared to dogs and cats. Care Birds needs include: 🪹 Large and clean cage or aviary 🌳Wood perches, ropes and stands with a lot of toys. 🥕Healthy diet with pellets and a para made vegetable chop 🛁Bathing or showering regularly 🧻Shredding and foraging toys (could be bought or DYI) 🦅Out of cage time/flying #engagednotcaged 🧠Brain stimulation (training, playing, singing and dancing) Building trust and bonding with a bird will gradually make them healthier and happier, and make it easier to have as part of the family. If the parrot is not properly cared for they would become moody, nervous, more easily ill, start feather plucking and scream more, which would annoy the paras. Tricks and training Learning tricks is a great way to build a bond and trust between a bird and a para. 🥢Targeting for making the bird move from a to b 🫲Step up to the paras hand, for gaining trust of hands, carrying and moving them around, and back to the cage when the para need them to go back inside 📢Recalling 👋Waving 🛹Using a skateboard 🛒Fetching items and putting items in a container (ex. a mini shopping cart, a mini trash bin) 🏀Playing basketball 🚲 Riding a bird bicycle 😙Whistling different tunes 🟠Rolling over 😚Kissing para 🦮Harness training for bringing the bird flying outside (requires a strong bond and lots of practice) 🕊Free flight (requires ultimate bond and lots of hard practice) Other activities and behaviours If they have a strong bond: 🥗Trying to steal paras food 👣Following paras around the house 👀Watching the paras cook from the shoulder or top of their head 🚿Joining them in the shower 🥰 Cuddles and head scritches 🐣Breeding If the bird is bored/under stimulated: 😈Rascal behaviours like attacking toes, chewing the buttons of computer keyboard, destroying furniture, hiding in dark spaces Popular breeds Small: Budgies, conures, rosellas, cockatiels, pionus, lovebirds, quaker, parrotlets Medium: sun conures, amazons, ring necks, moustache parakeets, senegals, caiques, rainbow lorikeet Large: cockatoos, galah cockatoos, macaws, hyacinth macaw, African grey, eclectus Others: ducks, pidgeons, chickens, owls, ravens
How about insect pets and snakes?
I think maybe small rodents that you could keep in cages would be nice. Mice, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, etc. You could watch them, take them out and hold them, or put them in one of those balls and see them run around. So the Paras could have tiny little pets but not as much interaction with them as you would have with a cat or dog or horse. It could also be nice to have reptiles and fish in aquariums, where most of their animations are just hanging out, "sun" bathing, swimming etc. Maybe tiny pets could come in a DLC pack in the future.
Pitbulls are my lifeline I need them 🥺
The ability to create mixed dog breeds, like types of doodles, would be great!
I would second this. Our dog is a cross between a pomeranian and a shiu tzu.
ferrets would be fun :o
Another thought: please don't neglect the animal-to-animal interactions! 🥺 I want to be able to have kitties who groom each other! A livestock guardian dog who has a special bond with a horse! etc
I'd love to see Cats and Dogs that get on well too. There's so many videos on Youtube of Cats and Dogs growing attached to each other. (and even other situations like a cat acting as a mother to a flock of chicks)
if my little sister were a Patreon she'd definitely vote for Cavalier King Charles spaniels so she can recreate her beloved fur baby
Quarter Horses! And if Anna has time for realistic coat color genetics I'd love her forever. 😂
palomino is my favorite color but it's not FUN if you can make it breed true!
Wolves!! And further down the line maybe let us start up animal sanctuaries? :)
I would love to be able to make myself and my adorable English Staffordshire Bull Terriër in Paralives! ❤️ And would there be mixbreeds? Because my parents have a puppy they bought from a farmer whose dog accidentally got pregnant 😆
I would like Axolotls and turtles. Options to either purchase store bought habitats or build your own using specific requirements for each pet species. Instead of getting all pets from a pet store or catching them in the wild or animal shelter, how about a hobby that could also be a career which would be animal breeder. Alternatively, one could purchase their new animal friend directly from the breeder. Animal breeder’s should have guidelines to follow and if they don’t those animals would end up adoptable from a shelter.
I'd love some kind of basic Animal Welfare npc or the like who would take your pets if you didn't care for them properly
Someone may have already said it, but I would love to have fish as an object if we can’t have them as a fully interactive pet. I think fish tanks are really useful when building.
ooh yes the "catch every fish" type goal would be so much more fun if I could make an aquarium
I feel very strongly about the ferret!!
I think going for a walk with a dog frequently or even go jogging or hiking with a dog a lot should influence a Paras fitness, self-care need/self-fulfillment need (or sth similar to that depending on what needs the devs pick) as well as weight loss if a Para is very overweight or like increase the overall health of the para bc of fresh air and movement. I also think when a para is introverted the pet would fill the social need better than humans or just as good and I would really like to see cats that hunt for mouses and bring the mouses to the owner and depending on their personality, mood or relationship with the pet they would be grossed out, scared or happy.
"If you can think of something that is not in the options, don’t hesitate to share it in the comments." Not a very common pet but... some people have hedgehogs.
Rather than (or in addition to) more pets, I would love to see wild animals. Seeing birds, squirrels and ducks in the neighbourhood will really bring it to life.
My dad bonded with a wild squirrel. It was so cute to see. Imagine how cute it could be if that was possible in the game
One thing that can really set apart Paralives is seeing Ferrets in a game, they are usually over looked but the stinky noodles are to dang adorable.
I'd LOVE to see Cockatiels in the game since I own one IRL. They could have animations to crawl on Para's and sit on their shoulders, other parts (chest, legs) when para's lay down.
And budgies 🥹 small parrots are just too damn cute
I would love pets to be able to share spaces with paras. Ie, a para could have a large dog sleep on their feet when they're watching TV or a cat on their lap. Or a beloved pet curling up in bed on a cold night. As someone who grew up in the country, I would really love to see farm animals (chickens, goats, cows etc) at some point. Hearing horses are confirmed gives me a little hope :)
Hi there! I would like to share my ideas in this probably last poll: 🦜As cat person with two lovely birman cats, I would really much love to see this race included! In general, there are those… I would say common cat and dog races, like british shorthair, persian cat, golden retriever, bernese dogs (just to mention a few), which are often mentioned in daily life. It feels naturally to have them in game. ⚾️Everything you can think of! Cat trees, animal beds, bowls, toys, brushes, carton boxes, litter boxes, cat tunnels, bundles of fluff and so on… ❤️Cuddle, pet, play, feed, training, talk, brush, take for a walk, maybe even decide if a cat will be a indoor or a outdoor cat and depending on that let them out of the garden door. 🥫Complex enough to give them character, like being confident with Paras or shy, following their Para around all the time or to ignore him, ranking social needs above food or ranking food above all, meowing/barking a lot or not, purring often or rather rarely. Being sleepy or hyperactive, being meticulous when it comes to taking care of themselves (fur care, scratching claws, and so on). These are extremes mentioned, to make it more realistic maybe sliders for some fine adjustment would be a nice idea! 😱Most people get animals to give and receive comfort and in my opinion a pet is great for increasing mental health. So a cat can help to relax when cuddling, give a good laugh when playing and for example a Para who loves jogging may find a fitness partner in his dog! 🩺To mention the obvious first: Vets! But I can think of a police dog to support his Para at work as well. I hope you enjoy aaaall the creative answers you get, you are doing great and communicate with your community in a way I’ve never seen before. Keep up the amazing work you do, looking forward to future updates🤍.
cardboard boxes for cats!! YES! YES! YES!
I know it'd be super complicated, but I'd love for breeds to match their average sizes irl, and not just look like them but all be the same size. Like, there's a huge difference between a Clydesdale and a Shetland pony, a great Dane and a chihuahua, a Maine coon and a munchkin.
HEIGHT SLIDERS FOR ALL SPECIES! 😂
I always want to create my own pets, and my dogs have all been mutts. I'd love to be able to pick a base breed (Jack Russell Terrier and Border Collie) and edit them from there like... some other games I've played like this lol
I would love to see all sorts of animals, but Birds would be great, pet birds and wild. Would love to see Fantails, Tui's, and kiwi's plus your normal parrots ect.. As for what breed of Cats and Dogs as many of the breeds that you can get plus maybe the choice of mixed breeds.
Some ideas: A horse skill level for the para- at max skill level they can break in wild horses / Can train your dog to bring in the newspaper / Ability to cross some dog breeds for a different look or personality / Pets could occasionally get sick and may need to be taken to the vet for a bill / Veterinarian job / Horse farrier job (someone who comes to do your horses shoes etc unless your para is skilled enough to do it themselves) / Custom built stables / Horses have some needs different from dogs and cats / Be able to ride your horse into town (especially a small country town) and the horse would be tied to a post by the shops as your para walks around / Ability to ride the horse around freely similar to how you walk your para around
would like to see Dogs: Malamute Great Danes Poodles Teacup Yorkies Pomeranian Dalamatians Pitbulls French bulldog Doberman retriever Scottish terrier Dachshund Braco Frances Shar pei Chow chow St. Bernard Alémanique Cats: Sphinx cat Persian long hair Bengal cat Egyptian May Angora Sorrel Maine coon Jobs: Dog walker Veterinarian Police dogs Horse trainer Police on horses? Lol
It would also be cool if cats could bring home little dead things. Maybe sometimes bring home a live mouse, and the paras freak out and have an anxious moodlet until it's caught. I also think fussy pets would be funny. My real life cat doesn't like anything, even fresh chicken. She's super fussy. I think it would be cool for puppies to be hyperactive and naughty and u have to train them or take them to puppy preschool, otherwise when they grow up they won't follow commands, go on walks nicely, might get aggressive with other dogs ect and it will be harder to train them? It would be cool to volunteer your pet to visit nursing homes, schools, hospitals or even train to become support animals like guide dogs. And your para would be responsible for getting them trained, otherwise they could act up at the hospital for example and not allowed to come back. And dog dancing would be so cool, like the people who do little routines with their dogs? I would just die, I love that shit 😆
I'd love to be able to walk around, do tasks or go skateboarding or something with a bird of my head 😁
congrats on the final community brainstorming session!! :D 🦜 german shepherd dog... greyhound... big dogge.... them horses with the splotchy butt patterns ⚾️ bowls and beds of various types. running water bowl fountains as well as water bowls. dog doors and cat flaps to attach to doors. catios! but rather than just placing a catio, i would LOVE the ability to construct one with the building tools to my own design. if i can set wall height to Teeny Tiny, attach the room to a window with a cat flap, and put a cat bed in there, then i can tell myself it's a catio. and spend hours building cat runs everywhere hhehehe. on that note, fences for building dog runs. and of course, toys and equipment for training. ❤️ pet, stroke/scritch behind ears, talk to, brush, for autistic paras 'stim with fur', to cats 'squish little toebeans' especially for childish paras. taking dogs for a walk, and exercising horses. training various tricks. cats and dogs can learn by observing their human paras (do horses do this too? idk i assume so), i.e. learning where the food is kept by watching them put away groceries 🥫 a pets needs would be somewhat equivalent to a human para. they would need to eat, sleep, drink, exercise, get fresh air, cuddle their loved ones and receive praise, vent about their problems, pass waste and gas, etc. they may even feel the need to collect a gift for their human to prove their "worth". some may have more unique needs: cats need to scratch, spontaneously zoom around and yowl like a goblin, etc.. dogs need to have mental training stimulus. cats and horses also need mental stimulation. horses would have more space needs than dogs or cats. cats need more sleep. 😱 depending on how many positive or negative interations with animals that the para has had in the past would influence how the para reacted to various interactions. if a para has grown to fear dogs for example, they will be tense around a dog and have darty eyes towards it. a para who loves dogs will look at the dog with a smile. 🩺 dog-walkers, ppl who ride/exercise horses like a dog-walker would walk dogs, groomers, behaviour therapists and trainers, vets with different specialities (speciality would likely have very minimal gameplay effects but is a title you could set for the para potentially? surgeons may need slightly different skills tho), owning and working at animal shelters
Cats could have a "scratch" need and dogs a "chew" or "dig" need maybe depending on their breed? personality?
I would love to se ragdoll cats and pugs.
I'd like to see munchkin cats honestly
I really love the Samoyed breed of dogs, also I think Sphinx cats are really cool. In terms of Pet traits, I'd kinda like if their personalities were a bit more detailed than in the Sims, but I guess they wouldn't be as complex as the paras themselves. Still I'd like to see a bit more depth personality wise for pets. For example our dog is friendly but she can be quite timid around strangers when we take her for a walk. I think she has a bit of a bossy streak as well as she barks whenever we stop paying attention to her after giving her a scratch. Maybe some wild animals could give paras a fearful emotion depending on the kind of wild animal. (like, say a wolf or a bear)
Some pet trait ideas: Guard: Prone to barking a lot whenever strangers are on the lot. (Our dog is like this, I think she can recognize the sound of the post man coming from the main road, she also barks at stray cats walking across the yard) Attention Seeker - This pet loves attention and might get upset whenever their owner is focused on other things. Timid/Skittish - Very shy around strangers. Energetic - This pet is constantly running around and loves to go for walks. I'm basically describing our dog. :p
Seeing wild horses would be AMAZING! And last but not least, allergies.
Pet hair allergies but make them random so you won’t know if your Para has them 💀
You could work in a stable, a shelter. I think that the pets should DEFINETLY have their own personality. Cheeky, scared, shy etc. Being able to choose different food for your animal would be cool. Like having food special for puppies, foals, kittens, for those who have sensitive stomachs etc. Being able to train your dog commands when it comes to eating behaviour and so on.
I will focus on horses since most will probobly focus on cats/dogs. I want to be able to make a custom stable, with different areas such as. Where the horse sleeps, where you brush/clean it, where you take food from. Etc. Owning multiple saddles, grim and so on. To be able to ride it (obviously) And I would LOVE to have miniature horses as well as giant ones! So a while range of sizes (breeds are not THAT important right now) more important with size difference for me. And ofc, colouring and such. For them to be able to have socks and their own personality. To choose what kind of mane they will have. I want animations for the hay that you put in the stables, as well as when they clean the stables. To have competitions, make beautiful enclosures and TOYS! I dont remember having many toys for horses in sims3. And please please please, some horse behavior! Both between horses and between horse and human etc. Being able to rescue a horse, having to own their trust etc, would be such a cool feature as well!
I feel and fear that on Discord there will be a lot of people posting photos of dogs, cats and horses and there will be less answers to questions about animal brainstorming.
I think it would be a really neat feature to have Parafolk's emotional relief tied to interacting with a pet! So for example, if your Parafolk is stressed, potentially cuddling up with their favorite pet or going to the local pet store to look at puppies could help reduce this stress and potentially fulfill other needs (e.g. social needs). If birds were to be added, I think it could be a funny and quirky feature to have a parakeet that Parafolk could interact with and "talk" with since these types of birds are known for mimicking the sounds they hear and communicating with their owners. General interactions could include walking your pet, brushing them, feeding them treats, teaching them tricks, etc.
I'd love to see Owls, spiders - especially tarantulas, snakes, meerkats ( although I don't think they can be pets) sheep, pigs, llamas, chickens, goats. General farm animals. Birds would be fun, especially parrots that can talk, can talk to them to increase social skills and also to show off to other Paras. Oh and bees, I just love bees!
The last brainstorming session ! Makes me both nostalgic and happy ! Can't wait to see what's next for the rest of developing time. [apologies for deleting my previous comment, I did an oopsie there] 🦜 Dogs, cats and horses are confirmed for the game. What breed would you like to see in the game? I'm both a cat and a dog person, but for cats I'm not really into breeds (although I do love a nice Oriental Shorthair with alien ears). For dogs, I'd ABSOLUTELY want a Bernese mountain dog, or any bear-size dog ; a lot of dogs in videogames tend to be too small for my liking. I think breeds are more important for dogs, as they're much more diverse in terms of shapes and sizes than cats (although of course there's some diversity among them, but it matters less to me). ⚾️ What kind of pet furniture and items should there be in Paralives? Outside of the basic (bowls, toys, pet beds... for which the system allowing us to resize items will come in clutch), I'd love items that allow us to transport our pets. Leashes, harnesses, transport boxes, etc., would be amazing ; if you move out, or visit someone for a few days, or go on holidays, you absolutely need ways to take your pet there. Also I'd love interoperability with BABY assets : a lot of people use baby items for small pets, and I think it's part of our affection for our "fur babies" (even if sometimes it takes an absurd turn). For instance I'd love to have an opportunity to raise a litter of kittens/puppies in a safe environment, but with baby gates, playpens, etc. ❤️ What kind of interactions should a Parafolk be able to have with their or someone else’s pet? While petting, talking to, feeding, etc., seem to be a given, I'm really interested in training options (for all species ; though, depending on the time you can spend on it, maybe you'll want to offer different abilities per species, but in general I'd love to be able to train a cat to do tricks, or a dog to guard the house/farm, etc.). 🥫 How complex should a pet’s traits and needs be? What would be different reactions they could have? I personally think that traits are a bit weird in That Other Game™, because the pets apparently have them but never really seem to act differently... But at the same time, I don't think it should be too complex, at least not to the point that dealing with pets becomes a fulltime job for the Paras. 😱 How could pets and wild animals impact Parafolks physically and emotionally? I think there should be service pets ! Also, it's scientifically proven that a cat purr has a soothing effect (and even benefits for the metabolism). But also, I think animals both at home and in the wild should bring "threats" (parasites for instance). 🩺 What kind of pets related jobs would you like to see? Aside from vets and farmers of course (although That Other Game 4™ did not make it very interesting imho), I'd love to play a pet breeder, a pet trainer, a pet rescuer ! I'm fascinated with the work of people like Kitten Lady or The Orphan Pet, who help ailing or mistreated animals and then find a forever family for them ; I think it's probably one of the first things I try in a life simulation with pets : the ability to raise or rescue animals in need, give them proper medical care and socialization, and then rehome them. As for the poll, initially I wanted to vote for hen/rooster, because I'm really into farm gameplay ! I think managing your own farm, especially if there are also horses in the basegame, would be fantastic. Cattle/pigs/goats/sheep/ducks/geese/turkeys/donkeys/etc. would also be amazing but I know I'm pushing it a bit. Honestly my ideal for this is a game based on how the Youtube channel Gold Shaw Farm ( https://www.youtube.com/c/GoldShawFarm ) works : nothing industrial, almost no daily work on crops, just a variety of animals to take care of everyday, while managing a personal relationship with each, and training them (training the guard dogs and barn cats for farm work would be FANTASTIC).
I’d love to see Australian cattle dogs (specifically red heelers) because I have one and I love him very much <3 I also think it would be nice to have mixed breeds and be able to choose more than one breed for a pet. Super excited to see what you guys come up with!
Yes I second this!
monkey and apes, or maybe horses, mules and donkey?
Breeds? As many as possible! Pet Furniture? Fancy beds like cat couches, obstacle courses for dogs and hurdles for horses, climbing shelves for cats, leashes for dogs AND cats (I take my cats on walks!) Interactions? Some Paras could fear certain animals, some animals could fear non-family Paras, some animal could dislike certain ages of Para, dogs and cats should be able to share a bed with Paras, cats and small dogs should be able to sit in a Paras lap while they're reading or watching TV a big dog should be able to sit next to the para and put their head in the Para's lap, big dogs who sat in laps a lot as puppies should try to sit in laps even though they're too big Traits and needs? I think pets should be as complex as Paras, if farm animals are added as non-pets then they should be more simple. Effect on Paras? Paras with certain disabilities should be able to designate a dog as their service animal, they could train the dog themselves or buy a pre-trained dog. If Witch Paras are added to the game a cat could be their familiar, if farm animals are added dogs could be sheep herders Jobs? For Paras: Vet, Animal Trainer, Dog Walker, Groomer/Farrier. For Animals: Police/Military K9, Therapy Assistant,
I think that every interaction with a Para outside of romance should be available. I chat with my dog, and treat him like a person. I also think it would work out for fulfilling the social need for introverts better than a Para. And any parent interactions should also be available, because a Para should scold their dog/cat for training and praise them, and gush about them to a family member or stranger, or bathe them in the stand up shower (if there's room) or tub.
My one and only wish is that pets don’t take over our paras lives. It should take some effort yes but it shouldn’t take half the day to take your doggy on a walk, feed them and give them some cuddles.
I would love to be able to go to a physical store to buy a pet, and maybe interacting with a store object will open up a PAM for pets. I really would like interactivity from getting pets, including “adopting” pre-made pets
Pet stores would be amazing. You could also have special items like toys and foods in variants that you can only get there. And your Paras could chat up other pet owners there and get to know them and their pets
When the paramaker for animals is ready, maybe you could choose a handful of patrons, who are familiar with the specific animals breeds, to pre-create for the game. (just an idea ofc!) EAs German Shepherd for The Sims 4 still haunts me...
If you're adding a rodent, please PLEASE check out, how to keep them appropriately! Most hamsters and rabbits live in way too small cages. Please don't add to this misconception! <3
It would be cool if we had modular cat trees, so you could build a custom play space for your pet. Also, catios, and the ability to harness/leash train cats and go around the neighbourhood with them. Also, different kinds of horse and dog shows, with different breeds being suited for different shows (and mixed breeds inheriting a mix of talents depending on their parents) if you wanted to go into a lot of detail you could even include the special 'gaited' horse breeds, like the Tennessee Walking horse, and their special events. There could be a skill for training animals, and a self-employed career to train other Parafolk's animals.
I would love to see an English mastiff breed with the brindle, fawn, and apricot colors since I have a brindle mastiff and had two fawn mastiffs in the past. I voted rabbit because I used to have a rabbit (a holland lop). Maybe in future updates, we could see farm animals like pigs, alpacas, cows, chickens, goats, etc. (just an idea!)
It would be cool if they could have chickens, bees and sheep. That would also give eggs, honey, beeswax and wool. They could use it for crafting things. Like candles for example. Maybe if paras ever needs to live of their own land more. Maybe if they brush their other pets they can keep the fur and make silly little crafts.
I would like to see some cute Ducks 🦆
Rabbits should be able to free roam the home just like cats and dogs. Pets should be able to cuddle in bed or sofa without taking up a paras spot. It would also be cute if they could play and cuddle with each other. I would almost need the colour genetics for the animals be correct. I hated breeding horses in sims when the foal just got random splashes of colour, not like a real full colour. Like bay + grey does not mean a half grey half bay horse... it mean either of them. Breeds really should have a selection of colours and different coat patterns to choose from depending on the breed. Even more awesome if they also are not just carbon copys of each other if they are the same breed. If you can breed animals, I would love if some of their offspring to maybe have new babies in their new family. I love family trees. I would like being able to longeing the horse. As well as doing planed riding / training times like dressage or cavaletti. Like you tell the para in a program what to do this time they ride and thus train different things. So they even can decide if they want to go into like a rabbithole lot and compete in different competitions. I would love some agility with dogs, cats and show jumping with the rabbits. Being able to have indoor cats and if they dogs get outside without a fence they might get lost or run away unless trained depending on personality. It would be so cool if you could have a cart for the horses, like a sulky for harness racing, and you could train on the roads and go into a rabbit hole for competitions here too. Maybe have blankets or fly masks if the horses need it depending on weather? Going on walks with your pets. Some short haired dogs might hate when it rains or is cold outside, might need some extra clothes. While long haired ones might hate going out in the hot summer. Some might love to swim and others will not even go near the water. Being able to have lots of pets. I loooove having big familys and some people have big families and many pets, or just many pets, especially breeders. I would need the children to be able to ride the horses too like in real like. And having many different sizes like a miniature pony, medium horse and big draft etc. Maybe just hanging out with the animals, like giving the horse braids, just petting and chilling together. Depending on temperament an animal might need more training, more walks, be harder to learn things. Some dogs might love to learn tricks, others might just want to sniff out treasures. Some horses are chill and let the beginners fail on them, while a spirited horse might take every opportunity to run away, buck them off. While yet another might just decide to eat grass and not listen lol. These might also be depending on breeds. Rabbits and cats and also learn tricks. A rabbit might love a digging box. A cat might love a plastic tunnel (the rabbit likes that too). The litter box for the rabbit also have a hayrack, like real rabbits they like eating and doing their business at the same time.
I would honestly love to see all of else over time
Perhaps farm animals could be part of later dlc
german shepherds please! they're one of the most popular breeds in the US
If size options are available for pets too, I'd really love Maine Coon cats to be included so I can recreate my two - complete with ear tufts and shaggy fur and hugeness and their love for playing fetch with balls of tin foil. They have a really unqiue look but they look very bland in other games. I'd love the ability to rescue strays, for pets to have babies and a genetics system. Also, horse riding would be amazing, as well at pet shows, to show off how well trained, well groomed and well bred your pet is. I'd also love to see wild animals like foxes, owls, crows, etc that parafolk can interact with and maybe tame. But mainly I want all the cuddling. You sit on the sofa, here comes the cat. in bed watching TV? Hello, make room for me. Trying to cook dinner, don't mind if I sit right behind you and stare while you prep food. You close the bathroom door from some privacy? HOW DARE YOU. Pets are quirky, funny and needy, and they need as much personality as you can give them, so traits for pets, random unexpected behaviour. It brings me so much joy when I go to put my shoe on and there's a foil ball stashed in there, and my biggest pet goal for paralives is for the pets to feel as diverse and alive and real as possible.
That poll was hard for me because I want it all. lol.. Anyway I will not repeat the dog and cat breeds that has been mentioned above. I would like stray animals and maybe a adoption center for them. My para who is an animal lover (or cat or dog lover) can spot a stray and try to rescue them. Work to gain the animal's trust. Strays should be skittish and wary. You have the chance to get bit or scratched when interacting with them. Your pet could get into fights with strays as well. Also if your animal gets lost or runaways they can turn into a stray. You can put up lost pet posters and offer an reward. Pet beds of different sizes. Cat trees of different sizes. Toys for pets. I would like that if I rescue an animal, that animal might want to be outside more than in verses a brought pet. I would like to have the old para with many cats in their house. I would like to get my pet married (lol). Training would be nice as well. Maybe have a pet show. The animal could be the para's best friend and support animal. If you have a pet they can attack the burglar when the house is robbed. The dog could bark when para's come visit or hide when company is over. Someone else pet could not like you. Your pet could hide, bite or pee on the para's shoes.
I want parrots/cockatiels... but not have them as objects trapped to a cage. I want my paras to be able to walk around the house with their bird and if they have a strong bond, the birds will fly to wherever they move to hang out on or around them! I'd love pet reptiles like snakes, tarantulas, bearded dragons/other lizards, ect. And FROGS 🐸... we need to have frogs! But of everything parrots/birds are most important to me. I can't reflect my real life in other games. I've had birds since I was 8. My oldest cockatiel right now is 23 years old. I don't care if it's extra content I have to buy, but PLEASE don't neglect birds. I'll even help you make them more realistic by answering all the questions you need
I would like a beagle I imagine someone has already said it, for a trait (and im taking inspiration from my own dog) im thinking of a psycho trait. like my dog hated other dogs always wanted to fight them, attacked them even as an elder doggie, but he was SUPER chill with humans, even children and babies. Since now looking back we hace so many funny stories I imagine it can be fun for other people to play with.
Otters would be cool
Cat shelves where they can jump between them would be cool! Regular and automatic litterboxes. Items that look like furniture but are really litterboxes or scratching posts. As for breeds: Bengal, Savannah, Russian Blue, Persian, Tortishell, Tabby, Calico, etc.
Would love to have farms in Paralives, and I hope there will be farm animals in the game someday! So I voted for hen/rooster 🐓 But all the options sounds fun! 😊
I have so many cat trees and different kinds of scratching posts all over my house for my cat, so I would love to see some cat furniture! I would love for there to be a dog walker job for teens/kids to make a little bit of cash too!
Here is a list of dog breeds. I did my best to stick to purebreds with a few exceptions. The website I used will be linked below. I’ll attack my cat and horse breeds to this comment. Dog Breeds: Afghan Hound Airedale Terrier Akbash Akita Alaskan Malamute American Bulldog American English Coonhound American Eskimo Dog American Foxhound American Hairless Terrier American Leopard Hound American Pit Bull Terrier American Staffordshire Terrier American Water Spaniel Anatolian Shepard Dog Appenzeller Sennehunde Australian Cattle Dog Australian Kelpie Australian Retriever Australian Shepard Australian Terrier Adawakh Barbet Basenji Basset Fauve de Bretagne Basset Hound Bavarian Mountain Scent Hound Beagles Bearded Collie Bedlington Terrier Belgian Laekenois Belgian Malinois Belgian Sheepdog Belgian Tervuren Bergamasco Sheepdog Berger Picard Bernese Mountain Dog Bichon Frise Biewer Terrier Black Mouth Cur Black Russian Terrier Bloodhound Blue Lacy Bowrboel Bohemian Shepard Bolognese Border Collie Borzoi Boston Terrier Bouvier des Flandres Boxer Boykin Spaniel Bracco Italiano Braque du Bourbonnais Briard Brittany Broholmer Brussels Griffon Bull Terrier Bulldog Cairn Terrier Canaan Dog Cane Corso Cardigan Welsh Corgi Carolina Dog Catahoula Leopard Dog Caucasian Shepard Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Central Asian Shepard Dog Cesky Terrier Chesapeake Bay Retriever Chihuahua Chinese Crested Chinese Shar-Pei Chinook Chow chow Cocker Spaniel Collie Coton de Tulear Croatian Sheepdog Curly Coated Retriever Dachshund Dalmatian Dandie Dinmont Terrier Danish Swedish Farmdog Deutsvher Wachtelhund Doberman Pinschers Dogo Argentino Dogue de Bordeaux Drentsche Patrijshond Drever Dutch Shepard English Cocker Spaniel English Foxhound English Setter English Springer Spaniel English Toy Spaniel Entlebucher Mountain Dog Estrela Mountain Dog Eurasier Field Spaniel Fila Brasileiro Finnish Lapphund Finnish Spitz Flat-Coated Retriver Fox Terrier French Bulldog French Spaniel German Longhaired Pointer German Pinscher German Shepard Dog German Shorthaired Pointer German Spitz German Wirehaired Pointer Giant Schnauzer Glen of Imal Terrier Goberian Golden Mountain Dog Golden Retriever Gordon Setter Great Dane Great Pyrenees Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Greyhound Hamiltonstovare Hanoverian Scenthound Harrier Havanese Hokkaido Hovawart Ibizan Hound Icelandic Sheepdog Irish Red and White Setter Irish Setter Irish Terrier Irish Water Spaniel Irish Wolfhound Italian Greyhound Jack Russell Terrier Japanese Chin Japanese Spitz Korean Jindo Dog Kai Ken Karelian Bear Dog Keeshond Kerry Blue Terrier King Shepard Kishu Ken Komondor Kooikerhondje Kuvasz Labrador Retriver Lagotto Romagnolo (specially bred for truffle hunting) Lakeland Terrier Lancashire Heeler Leonberger Lhasa Apso Lowchen Maltese Manchester Terrier Maremma Sheepdog Mastiff Miniature Pinscher Miniature Schnauzer Mountain Cur Mountain Feist Mudi Mutt (mixed) Neapolitan Mastiff Newfoundland Norfolk Terrier Norwegian Buhund Norwegian Elkhound Norwegian Lundehund Norwich Terrier Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Old English Shepard Otterhound Papillon Patterdale Terrier Pembroke Welsh Corgi Petit Basset Griffon Venedéen Pharaoh Hound Plot Pocket Beagle Pointer Polish Lowland Sheepdog Pomeranian Poodle Portuguese Podengo Portuguese Pointer Portuguese Sheepdog Portuguese Water Dog Pudelpointer Pug Pyrenean Shepard Rat Terrier Redbone Coonhound Rhodesian Ridgeback Rottweiler Saint Bernard Saluki Samoyed Schipperke Scottish Deerhound Scottish Terrier Sealyham Terrier Shetland Sheep Dog Shiba Inu Shih Tzu Shikoku Siberian Husky Silken Windhound Silky Terrier Skye Terrier Sloughi Small Munsterlander Pointer Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Spanish Mastiff Spinone Italiano Stabyhoun Staffordshire Bull Terrier Standard Schnauzer Sussex Spaniel Swedish Lapphund Swedish Vallhund Taiwan Dog Thai Ridgeback Tibetan Mastiff Tibetan Spaniel Tibetan Terrier Toy Fox Terrier Transylvanian Hound Treeing Tennessee Brindle Treeing Walker Coonhound Vizsla Weimaraner Welsh Springer Spaniel Welsh Terrier West Highland White Terrier Whippet Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Xoloitzcuintil Yakutian Laika Yorkshire Terrier http://dogtime.com/dog-breeds/profiles
I also tired to stick to purebred with the exception of natural mutations (no human crossbreeding/hybrids) Cat Breeds: Abyssinian Aegean American Bobtails American Curl American Ringtail American Shorthair Aphrodite Giant Arabian Mau Asian Balinese Brazilian Shorthair British Longhair British Shorthair Burmese Chantilly-Tiffany Chartreux Cornish Rex Cymric Cyprus Devron Rex Donskoy Dragon Li Egyptian Mau European Shorthair German Rex Japanese Bobtail Know Manee Korat Korean Bobtail Korn Ja Kurillian Bobtail LaPerm Lykoi Manx Mekong Bobtail Munchkin Norwegian Forest Cat Oregon Rex (extinct but could be included) Persian (modern) Persian (traditional) Pixie-Bob Raas Russian Blue Scottish Fold Serrade Petit Siamese Siberian Singapura Sokoke Sphynx Sulhalak Thai (traditional, classic, old-style Siamese) Turkish Angora Turkish Van Turkish Vankedisi York Chocolate https://enwikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cat_breeds
I'd love to have a wolf 🐺 in this game. 😍
I'd love for snakes to be added!
I hope there will be rabbits it's better than birds.
Pack of stray dogs which roam on streets with some Paras getting afraid on seeing them.
Voted bird, since there's no dinosaur option *sigh*
Dog Breeds: Rottweilers, Pit Bulls, Great Danes, St. Bernards (pretty sure that one is in! LOL), Alaskan Malamute, Pomeranian, Basset Hound, Whippet, French Bulldog, Corgi, Boston Terrier, Pug, Pekingese, Yorki. Cat Breeds: Persian, Maine Coon, Himalayan, Siamese, Munchkin, Black domestic shorthair. Horses: Arabian, Thoroughbred, Friesian, Clydesdale, Welsh Pony While fish would be nice I'd be just as happy with a range of cool aquariums, from a fishbowl with either goldfish or a Betta to wall sized saltwater tanks with a few different types of fish to choose from. These could really just be decorative. Terrariums would also be nice and count me among those who would really love pet snakes. Birds could come in a wide range from finches and canaries, to parakeets, lovebirds, conjures, parrots, macaws, and cockatoos. And pretty please, for us Goths... the Dracula Parrot. Yes, it's a real thing and it's awesome! Look it up! A range of wild birds like ravens, crows, owls and hawks would also be deeply appreciated. Maybe your Parafolk has to get a special license to keep wild birds!
Love to see Maine coon and Siamese cats. And I'd love if the different breeds of cats & dogs (and other animals) would reflect the needs/personality of that species. Like, Siamese cats would be intelligent & vocal, certain dog breeds would have an instinct for protecting the family, hunting, or whatever (I don't know much about dogs). Large dogs would need more exercise than small dogs and misbehave if they don't get it. I don't know if you will have horse breeds, but they also have very different traits and personalities..
I love the idea of the breeds having different needs. Only that for the dogs I think the breed has more impact on the likeness of a dog misbehaving. For example a dachshound is more likely to act out if they don't have enough to do than a golden retriever even if they are much bigger
For dogs I'd totally want mini dachshunds, for cats I'm a sucker for singapura's with those big lovely eyes, and I've always loved appaloosa horses. As for the one other type of pet I know lizards will never win, but I couldn't help voting for them since I used to have the most amazing iguana ever as a pet so I have a super soft spot for lizards XD
I would also like for “minor” pets like snakes, rats, etc to feel less like objects attached to their cages/tanks and more like proper members of the family
I like for cats to be able to climb on all kinds of furniture (like shelving and the fridge) because they do find themselves in weird places! I would also like for cats and dogs to be able to share a bed with Paras even if the bed is “full” (eg a single bed with a Para already sleeping in it or a double bed with 2 Paras, etc)
I would love the ability to foster dogs and cats! Where you have to bring them back to the rescue for weekly checkups for kitten/puppies, and quarantine them from your own pets, and they go away after a checkpoint has been reached (weight, temperament, age)
Scottish fold cats? Where the trait is not dominant, so some kittens don't have the fold?
I will say, if any kind of bird or reptile that eats mealworms or crickets gets added, it would be super cool to have a cricket or mealworm breeding colony added too. It can just be like ants and frogs in the sims, a stationary box with a little animation inside, but would be a cool addition!
Also fancy rats/other rodents with properly sized cages would be super cool
Hairless cat breeds like Sphynx that are properly hairless including the kittens!
Pet snake please 🥺
Along with all the other small animals i would really enjoy horses you could take them for a ride and take care of them
Snakes! Or a teacup pig 🐷🐍 for gameplay it would be great to be able to volunteer at a shelter and interact with the rescues, go rescue and have staff interactions, adoption fairs and interviews for potential new pet owners 🥰 I adore large dog breeds, Australian Shepherds, great Pyrenees, great Danes etc. For cats main coon, calico and Bengals 🐈🐕
If allergies end up having place in the game, I'd love it if some cat and dog breeds are marked as hypoallergenic, and therefore safer for paras with allergies! Same with other kinds of pets if they end up being included in the game! ;w;
owl and rabbit for me ^^
We for sure need Boston Terriers so I can make my girl, Mia!
For dog breeds - Hungarian Mudi
1) Additional pets (other than above poll): Mini Pig, Snake, Spider 2) All Pets: Pet Houses, Food & Water tray (most pets could be directly feed certain food) Cat & Dog: Pet Bed, Balls for toys Cat: Scratching post, those feathery stick 3) Para should be able to play with their pets, walk/ride with them (cat/dog/pig/horse), feed them certain food, talk to them, hug them. pet them. Para should ask for permission if want to pet someone else's pet. 4) Pet's traits should not be too complex. Sims 2/3 traits work just fine, minus the unrealistic ones. Smart Pets could learn to do tricks (ie. opening doors) and faster in learning the commands. And of course, the opposite of Smart trait would be opposite. Gluttonous pets likes to eat just their human. Littered pets tend to be sick.
It would be awesome if There was a big update or dlc with all of the pets and also farm animals and wild animals also would be cool if we can take in strays
I would love to see an Italian greyhound and a chihuahua and/or teacup chihuahua. A black cat would be nice to have as well ♥️
did i read wild animals?? OMGGGGG
I would love to see chickens and bidies trailing behind the mothers. Maybe they could wake up paras at the crack of Dawn 😂
Please, make the pets controllable, at least as a toggle if you would prefer they aren't. I understand some would prefer they aren't and like the idea that pets do what they and add challenge and all, but other (like me) definitely prefer to control them and play as them. Thank you
Definitely want birds or fish to be optional pets, maybe after launch if it’s not feasible during development. As for breeds, Pomeranians for dogs and Persians for cats are my top answers. I think having some cat steps/perches for wall and maybe leash holders for walls would be good furniture ideas.
For dogs: being able to make several different types of treats for your pet. Having several different types of toys for your dog for example rope toy, rubber squeak toy, tennis ball, toy with treats inside, frisbee, toy with crackling water bottle inside, ect. Interactions like scratching behind a dogs ears, cuddling on the couch bed or floor, if it’s a puppy putting your paras long hair on the floor and letting the puppy play in in, playing roughhouse with dogs, playing frisbee, talking to it, bathing, feeding and having it groomed or grooming the dog your self, hugging it. For jobs for dogs/paras: vet, pet groomer, obedience trainer, dog walker, making and selling pet accessories. Tricks: playing dead, sit, roll over, bring your para the newspaper, dance.
Chickens would be so fun!
Dogs I would like to see - Corgi, German Shepherd, Beagle, Labrador, Chihuahua (just to name a few!) Cats - British and American Shorthair, Persian, Maine Coon
For horses, I would like a place where Parafolks can go and take lessons (with pony for kids), because not everyone can have a horse at their place.
I'm really looking forward to the animals in the game. For the breeds, I would integrate the most common ones for the beginning and maybe add more breeds little by little. It would be wonderful if the animals also get their own family tree. This would allow a horse farm to specialize in horse breeding while respecting the characteristics of the animals. Horse breeds I would like to see in the game are: - Haflinger - Shetland pony - Marwari - Icelandic - Gypsy Horse - Appaloosa - mustang - Knabstrupper - Norwegian fjord horse (Unfortunately my English is not so good so I had to use a translator. I hope you understand what I mean above)
Birds make fantastic pets! I had budgies for years - parrots are intelligent, empathetic and hilarious! Plus super cute of course. As for pet behaviors, I would love it if cats could climb roofs and trees, and maybe even jump between em. Dogs should definitely be able to relieve your Para’s stress, anxiety and such with their mere presence. Also we need kids to be able to walk them! They could also watch babies and be perceptive to Paras needs (you migjt be able to tell I’m a huge dog person). I don’t know all too much about breeds but one word: POMEDARIANS. Thank you 🙏
I voted for 'bird' as an additional pet type for my Paras to own since there are so many different types of marvelous and beautiful birds in the world and I would love not only bird cages for 1 or 2 birds, but also a bird atrium as a habitat for numerous birds for our Para homes. However, on behalf of my daughter and granddaughter I would have to request a 'snake' as a pet, as well.
The whiskers answers XD lmaaooo <3 When I think about additional pets besides cat/dog/horse, I think about what different kinds of Parafolk I want to have in my stories. I feel like a lizard, turtle, or frog would be a great addition because they're not soft and fuzzy like cats and dogs (which creates more variety), they can be low maintenance if you want (like fish) or you can take them out of their tank and play with them on the floor if you want to be more hands-on (like a rabbit or guinea pig). Bird is also a great option because they are so funny and smart, but I'm leaning more toward lizard/turtle for some reason. I'll miss these brainstorming sessions but I am SO grateful for them and so excited for what's coming next!!
Please, make it so that cats can release themselves outside in the back yard! Don't limit them to the litter box :D
How cool would it be if we could have a Raven as a pet? It’d really complement my gothic Parafolk.
🦜 Dogs, cats and horses are confirmed for the game. What breed would you like to see in the game? Dogs: Shiba Inu and St Bernard Cat: Siamese and Ragdoll ⚾️ What kind of pet furniture and items should there be in Paralives? Dog crates, cat walks on the wall ❤️What kind of interactions should a Parafolk be able to have with their or someone else’s pet? It’d be cool if some are more excited over pets than others. Like they want to say hello and pet, where others would avoid or be nervous 🥫 How complex should a pet’s traits and needs be? What would be different reactions they could have? I don’t think it should be too complicated. 😱 How could pets and wild animals impact Parafolks physically and emotionally? Parafolks can be soothed when sad or laugh when a pet does something silly like a trick. I guess if a parafolk has a dog, they can lose weight depending on how long the walks are? 🩺 What kind of pets related jobs would you like to see? Deffo a vet and a pet-sitter. Rescues would also be great!
Animals have amazing personalities. In other games that won’t be named they almost always feel the same and based on my cats I can promise they aren’t. I enjoy the complexities and personalities of my pets. One of my cats is an avid hunter who enjoys torturing lizards and frogs that unfortunately find their way into our house while the other would see one and just kinda ignore it like “yea we’re cool fam”. Their past experiences should also reflect their personalities like paras do. For example, I had one I rescued from our front yard who was on his last legs and he immediately warmed up to us and was always super clingy, and our newest pet we adopted from the local shelter and he was shy and took forever to warm up to us but is now also super clingy. My mother’s cat that I grew up with however she’d had since he was a kitten and I remember him existing but never being incredibly cuddly. Animal personalities can be so complex and they really do need so much care and love. As for jobs or simply town features: Veterinarians, obviously, but also (obedience) trainers, per sitters/walkers(even if it’s just the kid next door for a couple days), groomers, pet store, animal control, shelter (where lost/stray pets can be found again or adopted). Aside from the obvious furniture like cat tree, dog beds, and toys, I feel like one obvious thing keeps getting overlooked in games with pets and it always bothers me: water bowels. There is alway a food bowel option but NEVER a water bowel. I also feel like you should be able to choose between dry and wet food for your pet since I’ve always seen kibble and, unless there is an option to cook something for your pet, nothing else. Another fun thing is I think they should be able to interact with objects more. I have never seen a game cat attack a power cord and oh boy is that a thing they actually do CONSTANTLY. Or sitting on a keyboard of a computer, thus inhibiting the ability to use it. Like you select type an email but the cat is in the way so the para goes oh well can’t use that object or have to move the cat so they can, or having to step over a dog who gas chosen to nap right in a doorway.
Breeds I'd like to see: • Dogs: Dachshund, Yorkshire Terrier, Rottweiler, Zwergspitz, Bull Terrier, Siberian Husky, French Bulldog, Berner Sennerhund • Cats: Sphynx • Horse: Friesian, Mini-horse (PLEEEEASE!!!), Rocky Mountain, Gypsy Vanner, Quarter Horse, Percheron, Akhal-Teke, Appaloosa
There are some great choices here. I chose turtle because it would be neat to see how customizable the terrarium could get. Maybe the turtle can just roam free, slowly.
My boyfriend is obsessed with Shetland Sheepdogs and we'd like to get one some day, so I'd love to see those in the game! I know super furry dogs are probably tough to code in game, but it would be so cool if you could figure out a way to make them look good. I'm so pleased to have pets in the base game!!!
Would love to see the fluffy bunnies ❤️
owl
I vote for ginea pigs because i've got two of them. In a magical world a love to see all the animal of the list in the game. For the reaction if a parafolk live in the citie he can be scare and amazed to see a wild animal ! Maybe less reaction from a parafolk who always lived in countryside. I think we need a special relation with animal, at fist for the adoption it cool be cool to find the perfect pet for our paraflok, the pet made for his personality. Like a parafolk who love to run with a, dog who love t run to. And see the relationship between parafolk and his pet evolve, in good or in bad. this is maybe confuse. If you don't understand i'm on discord and i'm french maybe explain ma thought in french. I hop my broken english is understandable
i think birds would add a really cool dynamic to dogs/cats/horses since they can fly. and you can take them out of their cage and they could sit on your shoulder 😭💞
If the fish/rodents/amphibians/reptiles are added to the game where in the base game or DLC. As a veterinarian P L E A S E Care about P R O P E R husbandry for such animals. Almost every game that allows the player to have fish/frog/parrot it automatically shoves them to a tiny aquarium/cage. So many people think it's fine to keep a goldfish/betta in a tiny bowl without filter or to have just one rabbit because they saw it in the game/movie and are sure that's absolutely fine. A pet should not be just surviving in our home. It should be thriving-and for that-it needs proper husbandry and care!
I'm indifferent to animals in games. I don't want them to impact my game play and I would like the option to turn on full autonomy for pets. If my paras adopt a family pet I just want it to be a pet. No job, no special abilities. A personality, sure, but not needing constant supervision... The only gifts pets should be able to present are dead animals and sticks... I like the idea of having therapy animals though. And having a service dog is wonderful but not as a job that the dog goes off to. Same as like pets as models or "working" animals - the para should be doing it all for the animal. Animals shouldn't be opening doors on their own. Nor should crawling babies. At least not front doors!
We could have only Pets with Smart trait that could open doors after observing their human.
Part-time jobs: pet walker, part-time pet sitter for when parafolk are on vacation, etc. Dog groomer. Full-time jobs: Veterinarian, exotics vet, zoo keeper, could be like a kindergarten but for pets 😅 Sorry if you don't understand what I mean 😟 but my native language is Spanish and I do my best to translate into English ☺️
I could understand you just fine. I would like to add Pets trainer (i.e. Dog) and also Pet Breeder for Part-time/Full-time job. I think we also have things like Cat & Dog cafe, Pet Hang-out
owning a pet doesn't interest me that much in the game, but it would be really nice to have some kind of wildlife as NPCs or "decor" :) squirrels, bears, deer, birds, etc.
Please, the only thing I ask is: Make Dachshund LOOKS LIKE a Dachshund!!! I don't like to make comparisons, but in The Sims 4 this breed doesn't have that long body and short paws! This is the only thing I beg you 🥺
I chose Rabbit here, but I'd really LOVE to see cockatoos! Our Australian cockatoos (white with yellow crests) are REALLY smart. They can pick locks to escape cages, copy humans, pull stuff apart and break things, talk, steal food if you're not looking, dance and are hilarious if you let them run around the house and yard. I had one as a pet years ago. I'm imagining the gameplay you'd get from cockatoos! As for your questions, I've spent most of my life with cats, so I'll concentrate on cats for you. Furniture needs: water bowl, food bowl, kitty litter tray, kitty litter, cat nip, collars, cat clothes, walking harnesses (you CAN walk cats). Toys: toy on a string (human on the other end waving it around while cat jumps around playing - generally my cats' favourite toy. It can be in the shape of a bug, bird, beetle, butterfly or just colourful strips of material. It can also be a fluffy worm that is dragged across the floor like a snake. There are mechanical toys that kind of spin around, but cats get tired of them quickly. Best toys have a human on the end. Cat need scratching posts. Lack of scratching post for an indoor cat results in scratched furniture. I'd love to see various cat trees and sleeping posts. Cats like to sleep up high. Also window perches (I have a pillow in my window for my cat). Relationships: built up slowly over time. Kittens easily trust, but adult cats take more time. Social could be a cat skill that directly relates to how long they take to trust. An adult cat with a low social score will take a long time to trust, but a kitten less time. Cats that with a low score will not want to be patted, whereas cats with a high score will love it. Belly patting would require either a very high social score or a high relationship. Food: Cat Food, tuna, fish, egg, chicken (mine loves fish and chicken and leaves his chicken and fish bones lying on the floor for me to pick up. Also cat meat and treats. Cats also throw up hairballs occasionally: so that could be funny if a Para stepped in one. It would also need cleaning. Perhaps we could also have outside cat runs for indoor cats. Also 'cat highways' (Google images and you'll see what I mean) are popular now: lots of wall shelves for cats to climb and walk along. And cats jump up onto EVERYTHING - that might be a feature of having a cat - finding it sleeping on bed, shelves, kitchen benches, couches, sun spots, all sorts of places, rather than just a cat bed. My cats have never slept in a cat bed. On a cat post, yes. In a cat bed on the floor, no. Also cats will just jump onto the lap of a trusted human if they're sitting. I'd love to see that in game. Cats DO actually climb up trees they can't get down from. Had to rescue more than one cat with a ladder, darn it! This could be funny in gameplay - calling the fire brigade to get the cat down from a tree. And sleeping, you generally can't tell a cat where to sleep. If you buy them a bed they'll typically ignore it and sleep in the box it came in. They sleep in different places, getting tired of one place after a few weeks to a month and moving on. Or changing their sleeping places with the season: nice sunny spot in winter, shady spot in summer (in Australia anyway). Personality: scared cats hide under furniture (particularly during storms), whereas bold cats will watch it through the window. Unsocialised cats will hide from new humans (under or behind furniture), some are affectionate and some less so, some are more playful, some quiet, some yowl like their throat is cut if hungry. Some sleep with you, some don't - if they do their relationship will increase faster, and they should only sleep with their favourite Para on high relationships - perhaps the reward for the Para having a cat could be a lowered stress state. Stress could lower if a cat jumps on their lap or if a cat sleeps with them. Stressed Paras might benefit from getting a cat. Negative: cat hair, hair balls...anywhere... That's all I can think of right now.
Okay pets I am passionate about so I could be here for a hot minute haha 1. Breeds. In a perfect world we could have dozens and dozens of breeds. Unfortunately starting out I dont think that is realistic. I think to keep it simple start out with some of the most common breeds and then maybe a couple obsure breeds for fun. I am so so excited for horses, I miss having them in sim games but I am also going to be picky about it. I know everyone is not an expert and its not the most important but if breeds, colors, and markings can at least be accurate. References are a great help. 2. I would like a variety of items as well but if we are limited to begin with thats okay. A variety of collars, leashes, clothes, beds, english and western tack for horses. A variety of toys for all three, cat trees, dog agility pieces, horse jumps and barrels for barrel racing. 3. I would like some meaningful interactions with animals. Maybe instead of a generic friendship system but like a bonding system. Animals can like a lot of people but really truly bond with a specific person. Of course on the other hand there are people who dont like animals. I personally dont want to see any option to be mean to animals but maybe Paras who are not a fan can try to avoid animals at all cost. It would be cool to have Paras be able to pet, cuddle, play with etc their pets. Maybe even talk to them as well. Ride the horses obviously, take dogs for walks. Maybe even an adventurous cat that would like walks too. If we have routines for needs, maybe a routine to feed the animals at specific times as well. 4. I would love to see a variety of traits as well. Some breed specific but just suggested as not every animal sticks to their breed standard. I would like good and bad traits and maybe an option to train out bad traits or at least make them better. 5. Coming back to liking animals or not I feel like this can really effect Paras. Like if you go to a friends house and they have pets and it makes the Paras so happy, or if they dont like pets they may be moody or not want to stick around long. You could have a Para who enjoys nature and wild animals but maybe some see them as pests to their gardens and get frustrated. 6. I would love to see a lot of involvement in jobs for pets. Like a police officer Para with a K9 partner. Parad could also be breeders and trainers of their animals. There could be jobs built to protect animals, like wild ones. They create designated safe places for wild animals. Vet jobs. In the future if disabilities become a thing (not sure what the plan is yet) but having service pets would be cool.
I don't know how far you're going to take the disabilities, but having a service dog(or cat) would be amazing. I don't know about that being a pet job though- the animals probably live where they work, lol Having animals in libraries where kids could read at them could be cute and fun. That could be like only once a week activity too, not an everyday job. I'm sure you're going to put regular pet furniture in the game, beds, scratching posts, toys etc, but I would like to ask for wall shelves/scratching posts for cats! Those are a good way to save room in a tinier apartment. Also raised bowls for bigger dog breeds. A trait for paras to be afraid/wary of animals could be nice. Not outright hate but just a bit uncomfortable. As for some interactions.. I hope animals can be with paras when they do something else. Like a cat sleeping on paras lap when they are on a computer or a dog lying against para when they are gaming on a couch (or floor!). Or cats just hanging on their owners shoulders as they do their regular things like cook or something. If you're going to implement any house cleaning activities, houses with pets get dirtier faster.
Honestly, I'd love to see out snakes!
Please Ducks 🙏🏾 (on second thought these could be under birds I'm not sure) I'd love seeing them in ponds or lakes and I feel like on top of adding to the atmosphere they are very nice pets! I'd love seeing wild animals mess with our parafolk's environment. Things like peeing their fire hydrants and making them rust so your parafolk have to clean it when that happens, or knocking over garbage/recycle bins and having to clean it up, or messing with your garden or plants if you don't have them gated in (the animals may even squeeze through certain gates or jump over/dig under others). If birds were in game outdoor cats hunting them could affect the environment by hearing less birds chirping or becoming rarer to see in that neighborhood? Things like this could be stopped or avoided if you adopt them or report the animal to animal control! If you have your own pet they may mark your lot as theirs so strays don't come by often or at all but that doesn't mean it doesn't affect your neighbors who may not have pets or where you live and the wildlife around there, so all nuisances may not be avoided! Similarly it could be strays you bond with and can train into not doing certain behaviors but if you don't officially adopt them it'll be a risk on if your neighbors call animal control and they get taken!
I'd love to have an option for modular cat tree/playground furniture! For eg. shelves, baskets, scratching posts of various sizes so we could create basic cat tree or a cat jungle! That way we could make cat shelters/cafes/crazy cat ladies rooms unique and give the player the option for more than one/two pet cats.
modular everything!
I'd definitely like to see birds, fish, bunnies, and some kind of reptile. Id like to be able to take dogs for a walk. (Cats too, possibly? Altho they usually just lay on the grass lol)
I would love to see birds! I think it would be fun to see paras teaching their birds to talk. As for breeds, I'd love to see great danes in the game <3
Last brainstorming??? Damn...
I chose bird, because I thought parrots could be a lot of fun as they learn to imitate the things their owners say. You could have a single caged bird, or an outdoor aviary with lots of birds. I'd like to be able to have jobs as a vet and animal sanctuary worker, and to own a pet shop or petting zoo, and also earn money pet-sitting and dog-walking other people's pets.
Would love for watching fish to have a calming affect, as well as the sound of a cat purring. And for Dogs to be drown to certain paras even if the pare doesn't like them. Pets can sense a sick para. (OK I'll stop now I'm sorry it's just that I'm fascinated by human and animal interactions I have a million more idea
As for pet needs, I think the needs should be varied by the species, and the breeds. Long haired animals need to be cleaned more often than short haired ones. Scratching for cats and biting and snifing for dogs. Maybe these kinds of needs could go under something like stimulated or somesuch. Understimulated animals are the ones that will destroy couches and shoes- give them the opportunity to use scratching posts and biting toys and your home will remain intact. I also think the need to walk/explore is something you could consider. Those also vary by the breed- some dogs will need a lot more walking that others. I have no idea about horses, but I assume they would definitely need some physical activity to keep them happy.
For horses, it would be great if you added, thoroughbreds, American paints, American quarters, mustangs, morgans, Arabians, friesians, Appaloosas. And maybe some pony’s too, like the connemara, or shetland. It would be amazing if the different breeds had specific areas they excelled in. Like how thoroughbreds are great for racing, American quarters are commonly used in western disciplines, and Connemaras are great jumpers. This would also help if there was a job or competition where you could train and compete in the different disciplines like racing, jumping, dressage, etc. love the work on the game so far! I cant wait to play. 😊
As much as I like rabbits and have had them as pets, the gameplay would be pretty similar to cats/dogs. Birds would add some different kinds of interactions, especially with larger and more intelligent species like parrots and corvids. I'd like to see more complex rodents and bugs/arachnids, but a basic version of them tied to a cage could be cloned from a fishtank.
Please add the Bombay Cat and Toy Poodle breeds. <3
I would really love to see a good basset hound design. They're so adorable and yet so underrepresented in media and it makes me sad. They also have such interesting personalities which I think would add a lot of fun to the game.
The scheduled routine option is a total game changer and I really hope it's included in the final release! I am so excited for pets too. I would LOVE to see a corgi in the game with their little fluffy butts!! Also black cats! And tiny couches and chairs for them to lounge on!
I would love to have the option for these to have as pets. *Foxes,*raccoons,*otters, *owls,*bobcat, *cats, *horses, *rabbit, *dogs
Horses are confirmed?? I'm losing my mind over here. As far as careers for animals: K9, acting, racing, herding...
Would love for different breeds of cats and dogs to be their actual size. Ex. Great Danes are bigger than labradors which are bigger than bull dogs which are bigger than chihuahuas. Or complex sliders similar to the Parafolk sliders also apply to pets.
I was thinking this too! I don't love that in the sims there's only 2 size options. It seems so silly to see a bulldog the size of a Chihuahua!
I'd love either a guinea pig/rabbit as an interactive (petting/free roaming) pet, or a fish tank (with some option in regards to stocking/plants) as a "interactive furniture" option ❤️
For suggested breeds of dogs and cats I suggest hairless breeds like the Chinese Crested, the Xoloitzcuintli, the Sphynx, and the Peterbald! For additional pet I vote for snake! I own a piebald ball python and I love him dearly. He's a wonderful snuggle companion!
Birds are so cool! They were my favourite of the smaller pets in TS3 and I've had some over the years myself. Although rabbits (which are currently winning the poll) are adorable too 😍
I hope we get at least a decorative fish tank. I think you should keep in mind that like paras are humans who have needs, animals need to have good conditions too. So no goldfishes in little bowls. No rodents being by themselves. Good sized cages/fishtanks. And I really, really hope that you will exclude dog&cat breeds that are harmful and bad! Or at least, make their more healthy versions in the game the default ones (Like retro pugs instead of the regular ones) Animals roaming free outside is kind of an unpleasant thought as well.. I hope we at least can have an option for doors not opening automatically for animals, so that player can keep their animals inside should they choose to play that way.
It would be great to have an option to create and save custom breeds of dogs/cats/etc. I have a silken windhound, but it’s not a popular enough breed to request it be added. I know I’d love to be able to create it on my own and I expect many people feel similarly about their more obscure breeds.
I'm sad the brainstorming sessions are going away, I always liked reading all the cool ideas. I understand it though, the community has already bombarded you guys with them! 😆 For pets, I think it would be nice of the Para had to have a license for owning exotic birds, lizards, etc. There are common species most people could get, but some animals are endangered/more difficult to take care of, so it would add some realism to require a license.
Dogs, cats and horses are confirmed for the game. What breed would you like to see in the game? I would love other kind of pets you can let out of their cage, it would be funny to have a parrot around the house. They could learn to imitate the parafolks voice and maybe scare them or troll the other pets of the house. ⚾️ What kind of pet furniture and items should there be in Paralives? I would love to see this "cat wall bed" that people can put in windows, walls or heaters and wall, or this wall paths so your cats can jump to them and have the high ground :P What kind of interactions should a Parafolk be able to have with their or someone else’s pet? Learn tricks, learn how to use the sandbox (for both cats and dogs), put tiny pets in your lap, take pictures with them, bath them, play games, take a family photo with them, sleep with them, take a nap with them...
My family has owned a lot of the suggested pets! But I couldn’t help picking bird… having different rodents like mice, rats, hamsters, and guinea pigs would also add a lot to the game.
You guys have no idea how happy I am with the fact you'll include horses holy lord. I definitely think their needs and personality should be as complex as parafolks. Contrary to what a lot of people think, animals are very complex and have their own personalities and I think the game should (if possible) reflect that
Other than rabbit because i have one, I'll say a pet spider.
Birds, please! Parrots that can learn tricks, songs and words. You could take them out for walks in a harness, or let them free-fly in the Para's home. They could sit on your shoulder or head, or on the furniture! And they could destroy the furniture! They'd be loud and might make Paras annoyed with the noise 😃
Hedgehogs would be fun!
It would be amazing to have all farm animals, cows, chickens, pigs, and sheep. It would also be cool to have dog play pens for dogs who are untrained with the potty so when your parafolk are at work you don’t have to come home to a mess lol
I hope you make an Australian Shepherd breed for dogs. I have one and they are truly amazing and could add so much life and love to a family of Paras!
I personally love foxes as an optional animal.
Oh rabbits would be sooo awesome! Being able to litter train them and teach them tricks would be adorable! I especially love it when rabbits zoomie and binky <3
I'm going with.. capybara. They would be probably more complicated than mentioned pets, as they could be playable, but I really think that capybara would be a really unique and fun pet to have.
I'm sooo hoping for birds: parrots, canaries, crows and ravens, pigeons, maybe even falcons and owls like people in renaissance fairs have
I hope we won't get only one from the pool because I definitely want birds to be there but I also feel for the ferret/rabbit lovers
I would love there to be main coons (cat breed)! They are so big and fluffy but also super tender and kind ❤
Snake! I've always been interested in owning a cat or snake. Maybe if they're considered post-release, they could be lumped in with lizards and the like due to their similar caring styles, same with the guinea pig and hamsters
Rabbits for me or a iguana. The rabbit was my very first personal pet. The iguana was the first family pet. I wouldn't mind waiting for barn animals to be here in a dlc.
Not me crying as soon as I saw ferret.
I voted for rabbit but I would love it if they weren't bound to a hutch and be house rabbits! They could have a hutch that functions like a stable for horses in the Sims 3 and you could chose to lock/ unlock it at night for example!
Domestic rabbits are very different from wild rabbits. You should only keep a rabbit in a hutch if you are planning on eating it. Rabbits can actually be litter trained and can free roam your house just like a dog or cat :D. Put perhaps a sleep enclosure or something of the sort could work similarly to the stable for horses in the Sims 3.
Rabbits, I have a little bunny and it'd be awesome to be able to recreate them in Paralives
Horse
possible cows! and i think the free time/family friend time would depend on their personality, such as a more family dedicated para would love and need more family and friend time and a lone wolf para would need more alone time
i love the shower idea btw! sometimes we focus on the storyline, and when we do that needs get in the way, but sometimes we focus on the paras themselves and it’s nice to take time on the mundane 💙
Birds please 😭
Rabbit for me please (Tinks) 🥹😍🐰
RACCOONS!! (massive hugs).
Hermit crabs?
