Push Pull and Sliders Prototype

Hey there!

Thanks for voting and commenting on the latest poll about editing characters with sliders or by pushing and pulling directly! I worked on a quick prototype to test having both options. Since the characters in Paralives are not ready to be shown yet, I made some quick and simple assets in the style of Untitled Goose Game to test the technology and have some fun thinking about what a character creator would look like in that game!

So keep in mind that this does not represent the art style of Paralives and the character editor will have A LOT more features! The Parafolks will be more detailed and in a different style than that. This was just a first prototype to test the character editing tools with clothing, the resize sliders and pushing/pulling. :)

Check out Untitled Goose Game if you haven't already, it's a really fun game for PC and Nintendo Switch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LL2AtHo1gk&t=2s

Cheers!

Alex

Edit: The video is now public :)

Maybe we could have an ornament or painting with the goose. It could be a wee easter egg. If you know, you know. :)

P

You have to add goose and ducks now....

YES! As a person who plays CAS most of the time in The Sims, THIS IS WHAT WE NEED. A tool that allows us to use BOTH PUSH/PULL AND SLIDERS! <3 <3 GOD BLESS YOU SIR.

I love the combination of sliders and push/pull! Perfect!

I low key hope that we can have that goose as a pet

L

This is so perfect, great compromise! I hope that the Parafolk look like the humans from Planet Zoo. <3

Xavier Zayas · October 14, 2019

I love it but I’m not a big fan of the noise it makes when pulling. I prefer silence but that’s just me haha.

J
Jade Mulick · October 12, 2019

Love that you're testing out having both options. There's benefits and limitations to both methods, so including both gives us so much more creative freedom!

B
Brittany Eastep · October 12, 2019

It's getting more exciting to see your progresses every time!

OMG I love it!!!! Love Love Love it!!! o_o

psybersa · October 12, 2019

Will you be able to use just one if you want? Like is it possible to use just the push and pull and get the same amount of accuracy as the sliders? And will you be able to turn one of them off so it just doesn’t show up if you just don’t like using it? I’ve always liked push and pull better and don’t see myself using the sliders at all so it would be cool if you could just turn them off.

A
Alex Massé · October 12, 2019

Totally! Everything should be possible using only sliders or only push and pull! Sliders will appear in a different panel that can be hidden

E
Emily Passons · October 12, 2019

Can the goose be a part of the world?? Like to just annoy the Parafolk? Or maybe even let geese!!

A
Andrew Maldonado · October 12, 2019

This looks amazing! I think a reset button would be great then too!

F
Felice Enellen · October 12, 2019

I love it! I wonder, would it be possible to have the sliders on-screen while push-pull is also active? It might be helpful / more intuitive for the player if they see the slider they are changing with push-pull, so that if they want to fine-tune it or remember where it was, it will be clear which slider is moving when they push or pull. Maybe just have it that the default mode is push/pull, and the sliders aren't normally visible, but the slider icon toggles the "Sliders" pane and lets you do both.

A
Alex Massé · October 12, 2019

Yes, that's the plan! The sliders panel is hidden by default and you can open it and see in real time which slider is affected when you push and pull! It already works like this in this goose prototype :)

L
Lisa Madeline Forsvik · October 10, 2019

Looks good! The goose is cute. Will we be able to hold and not only pull, but also move/drag an area around to manipulate a shape in faces for example?

A
Alex Massé · October 10, 2019

Yes! That's something I want to add :)

M
Melanie · October 10, 2019

I love this concept. Wouldn't mind seeing it applied to the actual Parafolks

S

Oh! I really really really love everything about this! You’re doing great! I love the sounds, the design, the sliders, the pulling, it all. You’re doing shockingly good for a solo project. Go you 🥰

L

D

Same. To be fair this game is actually going somewhere. 😂

H
Haley · October 9, 2019

Alex, you are a game creating saint! 🥰 The option of both would be so awesome!

B
Big Dawgg · October 9, 2019

I know you mentioned the characters arent ready for presentation yet, but what did you have in mind for their art style? Are they going to low-poly, or more cartoonish similar to the Sims?

A
Alex Massé · October 9, 2019

The goal is realistic proportions and details while still being a bit cartoony. They won't really be low-poly

G
Garst · October 9, 2019

Can we play as a goose in paralives? I didn’t realize how much I needed this

S
Sasha Pugliese · October 9, 2019

We now need to be able to have pet geese in Paralives!!! But more on the serious note, love this, I love the option of both sliders and push/pull. I really like the clicking noise as you are doing adjustments as well.

M
Miracle · October 9, 2019

OH MY GODD!!!!! YEEEEESSSSSSSSAAA!!!! I love it!! The honk made my day.

T
Teanna A Schmaeh · October 9, 2019

Looks like a good prototype, can't wait to see how it translates to the parapeople :) I think that there was some strangeness going on at the extremes of the sizes here though, so some harder set limits on how large/small things can be might be needed, though with people it could be very different. Keep up the great work!

H
Heather Robinson · October 9, 2019

this is so fun!!!

K
Kat · October 9, 2019

Awesome stuff!!

S
Simtroverted · October 9, 2019

It's cool to see how versatile you made the clothing to be. I like how fast and fluid the push-pull/slider system is too.

R
Rena B · October 9, 2019

Looool even the geese are cute haha tbh I would be fine either way but I'm leaning more towards the push pull rather than sliders... Idk it s just more convenient for me... But overall looks awesome Alex!!!!!

J
Jessica · October 9, 2019

Love the slider option!

A
Alexandria Davalos · October 9, 2019

Oh and there should definitely be a goose/geese in Paralives!

S
Similie · October 9, 2019

I'm so happy that there's slider options so I can see what I'll be changing ❤ I love everything about this and King Goose is adorable😍

OMG I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!! Looks really promising. Keep up the good work Alex :)

P
Phuong Ngo · October 9, 2019

You're always amazing Alex. Please keep working on it and take your time. Btw can you just import the freaking goose into the game when its released? Its so cute.

A
Alex Massé · October 9, 2019

Thank you :D Maybe someone can add it as a mod!

M
Madeline (MerryMandolin) · October 9, 2019

I really like the implementation of combined sliders/pushpull. The sound effect is a little loud/abrasive, but I like that it clicks up or down depending on which direction you're sliding. There's a nice range of motion as well, so this is a good prototype, I feel.

A
Alex Massé · October 9, 2019

Thank you Madeline! Sound effects are still to be adjusted :)

M
Marta Larsen · October 9, 2019

Wow, having the option to use both would be so amazing. Getting more and more psyched for this game with every post! Keep up the good work!

o
onlyabidoang · October 9, 2019

The tool looks promising already! Even though the goose is just a placeholder, now I really want that UGG goose to wander around paralives town and annoy every passerby 😂

S
Shelby G. · October 9, 2019

I love it!! Pet geese?? Please! 😂

S
Simtroverted · October 9, 2019

I'd have a sanctuary for geese! SO CUTE. I love seeing them around in the spring/summer with their little chicks. Swimming around, honking, being all cute.

E

I like the honk button

Stop. This is too much. We don't deserve this.

A
Alexandria Davalos · October 9, 2019

It looks amazing! Just watched a bunch of UGG videos and it looks like a hilarious game. Also, I couldn’t stop laughing at the end goose that was so little compared to the bigger one 😂

L
LaurenCheerio · October 9, 2019

Wooo I’ve never clicked a notification so fast! Love how this looks, and I love that you went with a combo of sliders and push/pull. I’m also wondering if you’ll add preset body types, that we can just click from a menu, and then edit if we like. Looking great, as always thanks for your hard work😍

J
Jay Dingo · October 9, 2019

I really like the push and pull option. I feel like it allows the player to build exactly the character they want.

S

There will be a button on each cloth piece to open swatches and a color wheel :)
