May Update: On the Road!
Hello friends!
At last, spring appears to be upon us, when as Lord Tennyson wrote, "a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love." So, I hope your fancy is lovely all May long and beyond. I'll be traveling to Los Angeles this month to do some interviews and attend some live events -- if you're in town, I'll be hanging out at Musical Mondays in WeHo on May 20th. Hope to see you there!
Here's what your support makes possible this month:
Livestreams! Come say hello, share your recommendations, and make friends in the chat! I love getting your suggestions for stuff to watch and read so let's talk about all the queer entertainment that’s lighting up your life! Last weekend I welcomed Jaymes Mansfield from RuPaul's Drag Race to the livestream, and this weekend we'll have a laid-back no-guest chit chat. Click the bell over here to get a reminder when we go live.
The Sewers of Paris! Each week on The Sewers of Paris, a guest plucks a piece of entertainment from their past -- books, movies, music, shows, and more -- and answers the question: how did it change your life?
Sewers of Paris bonus episode! More fascinating stories from Beyond the Sewers of Paris! This month, I welcomed writer Victoria Lee to the show for a FASCINATING talk about the psychology of Harry Potter.
Culture Cruise! All backers get early ad-free access to a new Culture Cruise video! I’ll diving into some more nostalgia with a close look at queer content in the entertainment we love. And in case you missed it, check out last month's video about RuPaul teaching LL Cool J all about the true meaning of drag!
Cozy Pants! A podcast for Patreon backers at $4/month and up! Join me and my partner James for a fun affectionate chat about the cultural comforts that are lighting up our lives. Recent topics include the magnificent villainess of The Monkey King 2, going on a date with Count Chocula, and awkwardly erotic fruit.
Weekly Debrief! Get caught up on the week's LGBTQ news, how it affects you, and actions you can take! Weekly Debrief is your quick weekly roundup of everything you need to know about what's happening with queer people in the world and how you can help.
I'll also be attending some awesome live events in Los Angeles! I hope to see you at one or both of these!
May 17-19: D&D Live - The Descent! I'm heading to LA for a sneak peek at some new content from our friends at Dungeons & Dragons, meeting with queer and queer-friendly creators, and seeking out opportunities to bring more big gay stories to the world!
May 20: Musical Mondays at Rage! Come say hello at one of my very favorite things about Los Angeles -- once a week a bunch of musical theater dorks take over a gay bar and perform random showtunes for literally HOURS. I'll be there and I might get up on stage??? Maybe???
May 24-26: RuPaul's DragCon! Ohhh I can't wait. I'll be photographing DragCon all weekend long, and also the saucy Bushwig party at the Ace Hotel. Keep your eyes peeled for me livetweeting and taking photos of the most cutting-edge queer culture I can find.
Speaking of queer culture, you might enjoy these article I recently wrote for Them.us about camp. One is an appreciation of The Apple, my absolute favorite campy film; and the other is an interview with Elvira about the drag queens who made her who she is today.
And as if that wasn't enough -- every Saturday at 11am Pacific, I hope you'll join me for a livestream of a big queer-friendly game of Dungeons & Dragons. Join me, Brian Moreno, Connor Olmstead, Justin Saint, and Jen Vaughn with James Morris as DM and we delve into Waterdeep on a fun friendly adventure! It's every Saturday at 11am Pacific at: https://www.twitch.tv/prettyprettypixel
We're also deep into a fabulous queer quest on the podcast Queens of Adventure, featuring drag queens playing Dungeons & Dragons! Subscribe at QueensOfAdventure.com.
Can't wait to share all this stuff with you, and hopefully see you at one of those events!
Thanks again for backing so many video, audio, and live endeavors. You're a vital part of making the Internet as gloriously queer as possible, and I'm grateful for your support every single day. <3
Matt
