Bonus video! The scrappy little theater that saved Disney

You've probably never heard of the Workshop of the Player's Art, but this grungy little 99-seat theater had a colossal impact on American culture -- and helped save Disney animation in the 90s. In this week's bonus video I want to tell you about how a bunch of scrappy theater kids managed to turn a failing fire-trap into a cultural institution, thanks in part to a creative innovation borrowed from, of all people, 19th-century composer Richard Wagner.

So much fun to see you get so enthusiastic about the material! I would love digging through archives with you.

I saw a tiny glimpse of Little Shop as a local production at a theater my dad did construction work for. He took me to see the movie when I was a young teen a couple years (a year) later. I've absolutely loved it ever since. Really looking forward to the video.

Welp now I have to rewatch Little Shop through the lens of Gesamtkunstwerk

Haha I have to admit I don't fully have my arms around the concept yet -- I'm trying to stay focused on my Ashman research without going down a Wagner rabbithole!

I always look forward to Sundays, because that's when a new Matt video comes out. Thanks for consistently putting out good work, and on a day most creators don't post.
