Character Spotlight: Beelzebell
A new Lustress has descended upon Lustrya 🕷️
Meet Beelzebell, the Spider Queen Imperatrix of Buxom Peak.
In this month's character reveal, discover the ruler who united a fractured infernal empire, why even demons speak cautiously of her ascent, and how her endless curiosity may be just as dangerous as the web she quietly weaves around everyone she meets.
Race: Spider Imperatrix
From: Buxom Peak
Personality: Sweet • Patient • Unsettling
At first glance, Beelzebell seems remarkably harmless. She speaks softly. Smiles often. Remembers birthdays. Writes thank you letters. Bakes pastries for visiting dignitaries and insists on learning the names of every servant within her castles. Her voice carries the warmth of a beloved aunt and her mannerisms possess an almost disarming sincerity.
This has led countless individuals to make a catastrophic mistake. They assume she is not dangerous. Beelzebell is not cruel. She isn't wrathful, does not raise her voice, never threatens nor does she rage. She simply gets what she wants.
Following the demise of Velarystra and the collapse of the old hierarchy, the infernal courts descended into chaos. Ancient bloodlines tore each other apart. Succubi and incubi warred for dominance. Entire demonic houses vanished overnight. When the dust settled, Beelzebell sat upon the throne. No one is entirely certain how. The official records claim she united the factions through diplomacy. The survivors become strangely quiet whenever the subject arises.
Under her guidance, the frozen rift realm of Buxom Peak transformed into a sprawling empire of black ice citadels and eerie architecture. Great spires stretch into blizzard clouds while endless halls echo with laughter, whispered schemes and the scratching of countless unseen legs moving through the walls.
Unlike Velarystra, the peak's former matriarch who sought domination through overwhelming presence, Beelzebell prefers observation. The expeditions she dispatches into Lustrya rarely resemble military operations. To outsiders they appear more like vacations. Curious demons wandering the world, collecting stories, experiences and peculiar local customs. Each encounter, relationship and amusing misunderstanding eventually finds its way back to Buxom Peak where Beelzebell eagerly catalogs the results. Her greatest weakness is perhaps her curiosity.
The Imperatrix of Buxom Peak possesses an almost childlike fascination with anything unfamiliar. She maintains entire libraries dedicated to strange mortal habits. She once halted an emergency war council for three hours because she became distracted by learning how knitting works. Several of her advisors have learned that beginning a sentence with "You probably wouldn't find this interesting..." is the fastest way to capture her complete attention.
As a spider succubus, Beelzebell also inherited certain instincts. Relationships are a thread. Conversations are silk. Favors, promise and secret becomes part of a web so vast that few realize they have become entangled until long after the fact. The most terrifying part? She genuinely likes the people caught within it. Visitors to her court often leave with gifts, memories and the lingering suspicion that they have somehow agreed to something important.
They usually have.
Traits:
Secretly names every giant spider in her castles and becomes offended if anyone calls them "that spider."
Has a habit of casually mentioning horrifying eldritch facts in the same tone someone would discuss the weather
Is genuinely proud of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and whatever comes after that, despite having completely lost count centuries ago.
Sends handwritten holiday cards to her enemies
Keeps a scrapbook documenting embarrassing moments from renowned matriarchs across Lustrya
