EV Roads Trips Suck Now (Except in a Tesla)

I spent far too long working on this video, and it was easily my most complicated edit. I'll let you all decide if it was worth the effort! I expect it to do terribly, but this was one of those ideas I couldn't get out of my head.

This video is making me want to check out the CCS fast chargers in my area with my Ioniq 6. I've fast charged 3 times and not had super long waits in any of them but I also don't think any of them gave the charge speed the Ioniq 6 can take. I'll have to pay attention to the charge speeds next time.
Man, if I had known you were heading through Paducah, I would have offered to buy you food in exchange for a chance to feel the Polestar accelerate 🤣
Chattanoogan here, the VW station is a tease because sometimes you can't even get to it cause VW locks the gates around the plant! And of course there's no mention of that in the app. When we did get to it, we only got 43 kW so I guess 113 is an improvement [?]
Oh wow. Surprised to hear you only got 43kW. And yeah, aside from that it's also way off the path going south to Georgia
EV charging is super complex. Happy that I use gasoline, so much simpler and quicker
I love the double check on practical reality. 1) Do you have any thoughts to add on Alec’s breakdown of the new standard? 2) I want to see this same trip when you finally finish The Bus.
I wonder if the lack of credit card reader issue has anything to do with either having to involve Verifone or a similar contractor on the hardware side, or with many of these charging stations being tucked away in random corners without much security, making them easy targets for skimmers.
I'm a bit confused by the thumbnail, is it meant to be so the Tesla is under Painful and vice versa?
The painful is over the EA chargers. I parked the Tesla in front of EA and the Polestar in front of the supercharger just to mix it up. Confusion adds mystery adds clicks
Yeah I can see that there was a ton of editing in this video. Thank you for your time and effort in making this.
Honestly, I'm not necessarily a fan of Teslas but the ease of charging is apparently way better than if you have almost anything else. While I would like to have an EV someday I just can't justify the hassle until the charging network is more refined/streamlined/standardized/regulated, especially since I live in a really rural part of America that would probably still sell leaded gas if it were legal.
I'm not doshing EVs, I think they're great for general commuting if I can charge at home at my own leisure, but if I had to go on a trip or if my commute to work is really long I'd have to get something that can be refueled quickly and easily.
Nice. I see you got the “Nashville Experience” on both trips. Unbelievable traffic is something we pride ourselves on around here.
I wonder if this video will have the same issue Bjørn Nyland had where it got selectively re-edited by a not very reputable news outlet with a headline akin to: EV driver HUMILIATED by road trip NIGTMARE!
I REALLY hope not
My interpretation of today's video: A healthy dose of reality. A pro-EV guy being totally honest about the pitfalls. Not because EVs suck, but to call-out the the infrastructure improvements necessary to make very-large-scale adoption feasible. Yes, closed ecosystems work better, but they're not conducive to growth. As always, I thank you for doing the dirty work so we don't have to!... and for making it good fun to watch too.
We just did a road trip from San Francisco to LA and it was a nightmare to charge. Broken chargers, long lines, very few chargers... Yet the Tesla superchargers were all working the entire time and less than half full at anyone electrify America spot but we couldn't use them
It's going to be one of those videos that does ok and then 2 years later some random event makes it like #1 trending lmao.
Hopefully not! It'll be woefully out of date in two years
Aww, man, it's so sad. nice cuts, btw. Another video I am chomping at the bit to share!
