The body shape of your lada is very similar to my 1976 DAF 66 I acquired from the Nederlands, it also has no ac or power steering it also only has 2 out of 6 windows that open an a heater with option of high and low, it also has one of those wonderful belt driven cvt units you love!
For peculiar replacements; ZAZ 968 gets my vote. You want to do something odd with the Lada, why not do a diy fuel injection thing, meqasquirt or speeduino type stuff :P But the 5speed would be good to watch. Regarding the French, it feels like the Citroen BX doesn't get enough love. Any of the ones with the magic suspension
No one has commented on the blinds in the rear window as far as I can tell... what's up with those?
Citroen GS or CX for me. They may just be the quirkiest cars ever mass produced. The crazy hydraulic suspension and feedback-less self centering DIRAVI steering system are unlike anything else on the road.
It makes my heart sing seeing the Trabant so happy 🥺
Polski Fiat! Definitely a Polski Fiat! My cousin had one in the early 2000s. He painted it pink and chopped the roof off. The only bright pink Fiat 126p cabriolet in the country! Unfortunately, they are practically unobtainium in the US.
I love how the fuel gauge twitches when the parking-brake light flashes on!
Lol rob. I see Lada all the time on this show Car Crash TV. it's on Netflix I believe
Seems so strange to say a Lada is too normal. But for you, maybe that works. Either fix it up to be a daily drive, or sell now and go for weirder.
Don't worry about the 5-speed. The 5th gear starts popping out because of a lubricating flaw. Getting modern tires will improve your handling. The econ-gauge is a vacuum line straight in to the carb. Basically measeures how much the carb is sucking. I know exactly what's wrong with your heater.
It would be very cool to see a 5 speed swap. If you do decide to sell it again, it wouldn't be a wasted effort either. Whoever bought it from you would probably want that too.
Youtube Closed Caption said "I want to wink a lot of" ... LOL
For further great inspiration on European questionable cars, have a look at the wide variety of “Seaside Garage”‘s past and present projects!
That's a very clean example, I think the 5 speed swap is a must really. If you were thinking French car maybe see if Hubnut is really thinking of selling Giselle, would be a great car for cruising around in!
renault fuego that what you need
Some maintenance on it, pointing out more peculiarities, would be interesting. A far fetched idea: once the heater works (and maybe once it got a 5-speed), road trip it to Alaska and let it roam in the civilized version of its natural habitat.
The window REG markings, Is it placed higher so it would still be visible if stopped by Authorities?
Yes to all the things. Does it only have a wind thing on *one* window? I hope this is forever called Dennis now. What about the 4WD Dennis? 5-speed swap, bigger/better carb(s), etc. And I would love to see those bolted joints, I wonder how more/less robust than Western methods are. Plus I didn't even know Lada was produced through the collapse of the Soviet Union. Also, I kinda want to see what's in the 'toolkit'; that's a far more 'kit' than I have seen in most cars from the rest of the world :D
Sorry for this off topic question, why have patreon videos 5 pop up ads that covers the entire lada?
Pop up ads? Are you talking about regular YouTube video ads or something else?
I definitely think a French car would be really cool to see next.
I'd love to see someone bring over a Renault Twingo or Citroën XM
With a 5 speed swap, your Lada could do something that the Trabant, Wheego, and Robin can't: road trip. As a veteran of multiple cross-country journeys in clapped out Ford Festivas, I can say that the novelty of driving a slow, antiquated, but otherwise cromulent car hundreds, or even thousands of miles in one go is both entertaining and rewarding. My vote is for you to procure a 5 speed transmission for the Lada, and promptly take it on a multistate trip. It will either force you to bond with the car, or allow you to get it out of your system and move on to the Renault Dauphine of your dreams.
Yup, this ^^^^
Oh, please, I’d love to see a Polski Fiat. Spent a month in Budapest once, and I’ve loved their look ever since.
Yes, I think a transmission swap would be fun to watch. Either a 5-speed or a compatible automatic, I am here for the ride.
I would say, go with something that actually entertains you. There are plenty of weird french cars out there, and if they haven't rusted away by now, they will last forever :)
They are insanely priced and probably out of scope for this channel, but a Citroën SM would bring me great joy. Anything from Citroën, really; the other French manufacturers aren't quite as interesting imo
You should try a Niva. It has the same mechanic as the Signet (almost as complicated as a lawnmower) but fun outroad (2wd front, 4wd, 4wd high, 4wd low and 4wd high or low locked...). Oh, and I owned a 1985 Niva for a few years and it was rated with 50hp...
I have to say it is sharp looking. Swap if you want, it's your Lada.
I bet it's a Lada fun!
It has more gauges and working lights then my 83 Cadillac hearse but my Cadillac does also have power windows power seats fuel injection and ac that doesn’t currently work. It also had weird power issues and is very rare and built by 1 person. It’ll probably fit right in in your fleet perfectly Lmaoooo. Not that I’m getting rid if it
