I wouldn’t do an EV conversion on the bus. 1. The bus HP, speed, cruise and torque all can be change with the right software. Take the bus or have someone come over and change the settings in the bus. Set your top speed at 77 cruise at 75 up your HP but up your torque more. This will improve your pulling power. Changing over to batteries will kill your range plus it will add unwanted weight to the bus. Also you will not be able to park the bus outside in extreme cold weather. 72 is the idea temp for EV busses.

I'll go over the numbers in more depth in the next video to make things a bit more clear. Yes, HP and top speed can be tweaked in software, but they won't even remotely come close to the numbers I'll be getting from this EV swap. The power is getting more than quadrupled. At low speeds, the wheel torque is getting doubled. At Highway speeds, the wheel torque is getting quintupled. Yes, the batteries will add about a ton. As I said in the video, I'm going with a range extending generator, so range will not be a concern. Also, the batteries will be heated and air conditioned to keep them at the ideal temperature at all times. If it's parked, they don't need to be heated since they won't be doing anything.

Driving my kids to school today we encountered a Los Angeles Unified School District school bus that was electric! I had never seen such a thing. Apparently built (converted) by a company called Lion Electric. It was slightly disconcerting to have such a large lumbering vehicle making almost no noise. You might want to go have a look at how they do their conversions... they have a location in Channahon, IL.

Mad lad score: 9000/10 I love it. I'm so excited for this project. Landing the AEM sponsor is HUGE I'm so happy for you that they were willing to help out.

c
cdigames · December 14, 2022

Oh all things, have you considered reaching out to eBay for sponsorship via eBay Motors for all the dodads and whatzits you need?

A
Aging Wheels · December 14, 2022

First people I asked. They're apparently not doing YouTube sponsors anymore

N
Nick Hernandez · December 13, 2022

You need the impact + floppy extension with "I know what I'm doing" on a t-shirt.

E
Eric Greenberg · December 13, 2022

Awesome man, ambitious but I have no doubt you'll pull it off. Having a hard deadline is definitely great for whipping yourself into gear and getting shit done.

LADA!

S
Shok · December 13, 2022

the copper goo is likely from head gasket fix in a can by the way

C
Charles Broderick · December 13, 2022

Heck yes! I cant wait to watch every installment of this. My employer however, wont feel the same way. I am excited to see this happen! Thank you Robert.

E
Evan Hartmann · December 13, 2022

How are you insuring the escape? Is it a company like Haggerty where u can name your price you want it insured to?

E
Evan Hartmann · December 13, 2022

Out of curiosity how much did the escape cost?

P
Peter Xenos · December 13, 2022

Cool Project someone put head gasket in a can in the radiator, that radiator going to be full of little fibers.

T
Tom Hsia · December 13, 2022

Electrek Unbus

Bruce the Moose · December 13, 2022

"Because I can" and "because I want to" have always been good enuf reason for me

G
GrayRaceCat · December 16, 2022

Same here, unfortunately for me they never seem to line up with "because I can afford it"!

J
Jacob Nelson · December 13, 2022

Robert you're doing gods work, this will be a a sweet project.

V
VCSMaster · December 13, 2022

Why do I feel like this channel is going further and further from weird chintzy old cars towards expensive things I could care less about

C
Christian Bikle · December 13, 2022

If it makes you feel better, some of us are here for the _woodworking_ content. Fortunately, Robert is an entertaining host and excellent editor regardless of the subject.

M
Michael Dunn · December 13, 2022

I have zero knowledge about how cars work, but I always appreciate your enthusiasm about your projects. :D

A
Alan Harris · December 13, 2022

awesome. prototyping on a smaller vehicle first.

G
Gilbert G. · December 13, 2022

Oh man I’m pumped for this project. It’s awesome to see you so excited about a new project again. Can’t wait for the next video!

I think that 40 miles of range on 16kwh is fairly optimistic, even with one drive unit and being gentle on the throttle.

A
Aging Wheels · December 13, 2022

You're probably right. The Pacifica goes 32 miles on that charge, so that's probably closer to what I should expect.

T
Tedd ILL · December 13, 2022

Never mind. I see I'm late to the party.....Bars leak??? Great project.

W
Winston R. Milling · December 13, 2022

Super excited for the project!

d
dean m · December 13, 2022

Im hooked. Amazed to see you got the engine out in the first episode.

A
Aging Wheels · December 13, 2022

I imagine most people would find something else to watch if the first video was too information heavy, so why not break up the information with dismantling!

S
Simon Pain · December 13, 2022

Awesome. Really looking forward to this series 😊. Have fun!

s
shelton sandifer · December 13, 2022

The copper flakes in the coolant is most likely a radiator stop leak like the Bar's liquid copper stop leak

A
Aging Wheels · December 13, 2022

Oooh. That makes sense. It definitely didn't stop the leak

M
Michael Sunseri · December 13, 2022

The differential joke made me laugh out loud. Please keep that for the final edit lol

S
Stefan Lang · December 13, 2022

Struck me completely unexpected.

K
KYLE DEXTER · December 13, 2022

I thought to myself today I sure hope Robert post a new video soon. I sure do love his videos. And boom look at that it happened!
