solo cabriolet
...Solo convertible conversion?
I’m sorry this happened. Maybe you could make it into a Fuldamobil N-2 replica. Their bodies are just flat pieces of pebbled aluminum.
I'd say fix the roof + replace windscreen if possible, if not, cut the roof off and leave it an open-topped car
Major league bummer!
*rolloed
sadness I liked the white one the best such a shame it happened. maybe you can find another one
On the way home — I passed Morgan West. Saw a Morgan 3 wheeler. You could build a one of a kind homage to the Morgan Super 3. You could get aluminum & clad the chassis in it. You’ve the tools.
I a sorry to hear about your loss but I am glad you or anyone else weren't hurt overly much. Hopefully in the future we can find replacements for these damages they will likely not be stock and not perfect but there is always a solution to any problem even if it's isn't the one we prefer.
Would it have any value as a pseudo Slingshot-like open top motorcycle?
If you want new “glass” why not thick plexiglass? The guy who built my hearse did that to the rear doors and they are still intact from 1983!
There was a spot in Studio City CA that had about 100 of those suckers - do you want me to check if they’ve a spare windshield? I can find out late Tuesday for you.
It was a showroom, now housing used Amazon vans. I looked around & found - Service: service@electrameccanica.com 1-888-457-SOLO
seems like a custom windshield would be out of their price range/goal for the project; I'm guessing and hoping that it is a repurposed windshield. or maybe custom windshields are cheaper than expected?
I see an Under Dunn series in the making where you craft a new body for the Solo out of wood.
I'd love a see a "Go Kart" Powered by a Solo. A wooden Solo would be even better.
Alternative suggestion: build a replica of the Morgan 3-wheeler. Regardless, it’s a bummer that this happened, but I’m glad that he’s going to be ok.
Aw man. That’s tragic.
Ugh this video hurt my soul, and I know you're upset too because I can just hear it in your voice (these are your babies after all). Glad Dan is OK, that's the main thing of course. I'm sure once you've calmed down you will come up with some new and interesting project involving the remains of this poor Solo.
So how did the accident happen sir? Oh I was just taking corner at normal speed. No, I mean how did you get boiling hot lunch stuck to the back of your head whilst driving? All you need is a microvave and ecoflow, it fits perfectly! (Sorry couldn't help myself)
The Ariel Atom of Solos? Or just hang it upside down from your ceiling? How much do you need content, that can help determine what to do. Fabricate additional body panels, or additional chassis components, or build carbon panels, or toss it in a corner until you need a distraction?
How about making it the worlds only Solo roadster? :P
I had to go back and watch the solo video. Poor little guy
What about the driver's insurance?
I literally didn't think about that, but I'm not going to worry about that. His insurance would skyrocket and for no real benefit
Turn it into a beach buggy with rally lights and everything!
Aw. I'm so sorry! That sucks.
Maybe Superfast Matt would make you a Polycarbonate windshield? Or you can just watch his videos on how to do it yourself? Nice advert for Factor, but have you done any Eco-Flow sponsored videos with discount codes I can use that would give you a kickback? (and work in Europe?)
I don't thiiink I have any codes? I did have a referral link at one point, but that over two years ago. If anything, his videos make.me want to avoid a polycarb windshield
So... the Solo is as stable as Trump.
It'd have to actively tip over for that
Stinks that it happens, but lemons from lemonade: Solo Roadster! Chop off the roof, windshield and tops of the doors. Could be a fun open-air experience.
Well I will feel really bad about liking this video. Just know it's for the engagement. Am also sad. Also as someone who knows nothing about cars, coupling with my love of the Grand Tour Beach Buggy Boys episodes, can it be somehow beach buggied?
Wow, that's painful... One idea: would it be so hard to transform that beauty in a convertible? Maybe getting a different windshield (or none...), some structural reinforcement and bang, a one of a kind Solo!
TBH That might truly one of the best Ideas one can do with that car. Make it a Spider or Roadster. As for Fiberglass repair, mayby Robert could reach out to Ronald Finger. With his Fiero he has much experience fixing Fiberglass bodys. Would be a funny colab! https://www.youtube.com/@RonaldFinger
Why not just completely remove the body and run it like an open air track car? You already said that because of its legal classification it doesn't have to meet any safety standards. Something along the lines of an Ariel Atom or VW sandrail, if it has an type of "exoskeleton" frame it wouldn't matter if it rolled again, just tip it back over.
I'm considering something along these pines
Time to start calling it the Rolo. ...Too soon?
The name has already been decided
Oof. That's awful. I'm so sorry. If the damage is confined mostly to the upper half, I briefly wondered if you could just cut the top off and turn it into a convertible.
Well, I guess that's probably more thorough crash testing than EM ever bothered with! Fascinated to see what you do next with it.
Hey, you can now check totalling a very rare vehicle from your bucket list. I really hope the person who rolled the solo is truely ok and gets a good laugh out of this incident in the future
Yeah, he's totally fine. He's even had the stitches removed already. He felt awful about it as you could imagine
