I don't think I commented on this post when it came out, but I wanna note that people do buy Christmas cakes after Christmas(and also candy after Valentine's Day). Hell, the anime/4koma manga Lucky Star had a scene where the teacher who iirc was single ended up buying a Christmas cake so that the cake wouldn't feel alone, or something like that.
Absolutely. It's just old people being bullies in our comics. In real life, people appreciate the absolute mega-positive deal in buying day-old cakes. The older the cake, the sweeter the savings! I'm a stale cake enjoyer myself, both figuratively and literally.
