Bubble Bobble 2nd Beta
FILES ATTACHED TO THIS POST
Then there was music and wonderful flowers... Yes, we finally have music for Bubble Bobble. I have written a Yamaha OPL1 core based on the best reverse engineered data I have found. I got a lot of good information from Nuked. He has written cycle accurate emulators of some Yamaha chips and his code is a very good representation of the hardware -in C language. So if you know what you're looking for, you can find the information in there. As usual, when I use public information someone else has produced I make a donation from the funds of this Patreon.
I still want to test the OPL1 core a bit more but I have already made it public. Other developers can now benefit from it. As you know, I have a commitment to help core development by providing autonomous chip modules than other people can freely use.
Please let me remind you of the beta status of Bubble Bobble. I trust you will not share the files and keep them to your private use.
Enjoy!

Image is too much to the right on the MiST RGB, any change this an be fixed. I can send a photo. Same problem as Black Tiger.
Yes, I can fix it. I have CRT image adjustment in MiSTer but in MiST I still hadn't got requests for it. If you open an issue in https://github.com/jtbin I'll remember to do it. Thank you!
Amazing. Just hopped on the MISTer wagon and me and my CRT haven't been happier in years. Thank you for your work. As one of the authors of the "Bubble Bobble: Lost Cave" 100 alt, levels ROMswap, I can't wait to play it on FPGA too :)
It's a pleasure and honour to have you here. I think Bruno Silva made the MRA for your version. Please join Discord and we can ask there
Thank you so much Jose!!
Awesome work, really great to enjoy this with music now....
Thank you!
Gracias. Tienes planes para el cps-2 ?
Si. La semana que viene empiezo con el QSound
I played this earlier with my 11 year old son, great fun and then we were both humming the tune for 30 minutes on the drive home. Total ear worm !
I love these cores, and Bubble Bobble is a treat. I do have a question though. Is it possible to create a toggle or option that would allow for Start & Pause to be mapped to the same button like most consoles? It would be especially useful for USB controllers with few buttons.
Not quite, as start is handled by the game software and pause is completely alien to the original system.
Works and looks and sounds great.
Plays great, but is there a reason the bubbles that spit out at the beginning before starting don't spin out in a pattern? Maybe I have different ROM?
It is a bug I still haven't had the time to look deep enough at
thanks, working perfectly on my crt!
Great job!
Thank you so much, I have so many fond memories playing Bubble Bobble with my friends on my Atari ST, I think it was the game, we sank most hours in, we could play it forever.
Yes this is where I first played it too, I remember even my Mum and Dad enjoying a game of it!!
Thank you Jose, love this games music!
Gracias Jose.
Thanks Jotego 😇🙏
Awesome. Thank you
👍
Thank you for your awesome work on this OPL1 sound source and this EXTREMELY LEGENDARY GAME. I'll test it when i get back from work. This last hour will be long!!! Anyway José, As I could test in the last BETA the bubbles of the beggining message only appear 2 of them. The other seems to be perfectly OK! Thanks Jose. If you need the music module for investigate, let me know.
Awesome work! Many many thanks
you have to delete old files
Super... you Sir are an absolute legend... the tunes sound so rich, and it's only in beta... nice!
Help please, I've downloaded jtbubl_mister.zip, extracted the files to the right folders on the MiSTer, the game is loaded, I hear the game sound, but not the background music.
You must be using the files from the first beta. Double check the date of the RBF. Use the second beta for music. It is the most recent post.
Thank you for the amazing work!
🎉🎉🎉🎉
I just played the new beta. Pretty awesome LOL
Thanks Jose, great work!
Thank you Jotego
