Forgotten Worlds: CPS Release Candidate

FILES ATTACHED.

We're finally here. The last beta file brings suppot to what was the first CPS game: Forgotten Worlds. This title uses a rotary control which needs a specific interface that took some work to implement. Although I have not connected the dial inputs to MiSTer pins yet, all the real hardware is there. At the moment you will use two buttons to rotate the characters. When I can get my hands on a dial solution for MiSTer I will try to support it.

This week is special too because the core has achieved the Release Candidate stage. I think the core is now mature enough to go to the next phase. There is still a little bit of work pending but I am going to need some test material I'm waiting for at the moment.

The Release Candidate MiSTer version is also based on the latest official MiSTer framework. So all features should work as on any updated MiSTer cores.

If you are a high tier member, please check that the way your name and avatar image are displayed in the credits screen is the right one. Please contact me if anything needs fixing.

This version is still not public but it is the candidate to become public. Remember to delete old MRA files.

CPS has been an awesome platform to bring back to life. I am very grateful for all your support and inputs during development.

Jose, does Forgotten Worlds support the real Capcom spinners for the game? I'm trying to see if I can set them up with the Mister to test.

J
JOTEGO · October 1, 2021

As of today it doesn't, but if there is a specific device that people can adopt within MiSTer, we can add support for it.

I recently picked up a Daimakaimura A+B+C combo from ebay. It is original CPS hardware with reproduction ROMs. The aboard is the 12mhz - Dash board, which is 2 mhz faster than the original CPS hardware. The reproduction rom used is the Japan Resale rom. I can say that with the turbo option turned on, the CPS mister core is almost exactly the same as the real hardware. Awesome job! It you are interested to know the differences, I'd be happy to share. They are very minor.

JOTEGO · November 3, 2020

That’s interesting. Dai Makaimura is set in the MRA file to run at 10MHz. I think your PCB might be a converted set as the 12MHz games appeared later in the machine life cycle.

Just wanted to chime in on issues showing on my PVM 1344Q. CSYNC doesn't work at all (but works fine with other cores), so I need to turn sync off. Even then, there are strange color issues showing on certain screens. Menus tend to be the worst, where part of the screen is typically black and white, but sometimes in-game i see bands of reduced color. Here are some photos showing the issue on SFII: https://photos.app.goo.gl/wdCWe8FLTHwuBzXt9

Oh, quick note, that was with YPbPr=1. When I turn that off, and switch to RGB on my PVM, the color issue goes away. However, the sync issue remains. (I'd like to be able to use YPbPr though.)

Scott Janouskovec · May 19, 2020

I am experiencing intermittent sync issues too that are noticeable with the Varth game on a Sony PVM 20M2U. However, the sync issues are not observed on a Sony PVM 20L5.

I take note. Thank you

Cannot wait for CPS 1.5. Two of my fav games on all time on it !!!

I have sync issues on my Sony consumer CRT with this version of the core. The previous version runs fine.

J
JOTEGO · May 17, 2020

Some people have reported that. For others works fine. I think it has to do with updating the MiSTer framework version used. I'm looking into it at the moment.

J
JOTEGO · May 16, 2020

Prueba esas cosas a ver.

J
JOTEGO · May 16, 2020

Hey Jose! Thanks for your great work! When will the core get support for full versions of Punisher and Dinosaurs & Cadillacs?

J
John Casey · May 15, 2020

After 20200502 fixing my CRT sync problems, I'm back to having them again. H/V adjust don't do anything other than reposition the image. HDMI looks fine.

A
Alejandro Siurana Sánchez · May 15, 2020

A
Alejandro Siurana Sánchez · May 15, 2020

I get lots of graphical corruption on the rom test screen and the title screen, the other CPS1 games work fine. I use the merged Mame 0.220 Rom and my MiSTer has 128 MB.

J

Thanks! Can the mouse left/right be hooked up to analog dial like in the Arkanoid core? Or is that already done?

J

I didn't think of it, actually.

J

¡No!
