Pokonyan & some bootlegs

(español abajo)

New MRA files again. Please delete the old ones. You have the link to download in the first CPS post. Please read the post to find it. The files for today's update are marked 20200417 for today's date.

This week most of the work has been focused on getting the DIP switches in and fixing MRA files. I think all released original games should work with full DIP switches. This means you can now enable continue on Ghouls'n Ghosts.

DIP switches only work for MiSTer at the moment. I am working with Gyurco and Sebdel to get this on MiST too but it will need a firmware upgrade.

Someone made MRA files for CPS 1.5 bootlegs, which doesn't use QSound. Although I am not a big fan of bootlegs, I have made full MRA files for these three titles: Punisher, Warriors of Fate and Cadillac & Dinosaurs. Note that music and SFX are ripped from other games and that there are other issues due to their bootleg nature. We'll have proper CPS1.5 support eventually anyway.

CRT image should be a bit more centered now. There also was a graphic glitch on UN Squadron/Area 88 that apparently no one noticed. That's fixed now. Button support for all games should be correct now without editing any file.

And last but not least, we have a cute addition to the official game collection: Pokonyan! Note: to move right press right and then left. To move left press left and then right.

Borra los MRA viejos. Tenemos nuevos otra vez.

MiSTer_20200421 official release now seems to be fully working with CPS1

Great news!

Jotego, I received my DB9 adapter from Antonio Villena today. It it does not appear to work enabling the serial option in the core options, any plans to support DB9 in the future?

How do you revert to a previous version? Did you have to start from scratch?

D
David Hiles · April 19, 2020

Go to Main Mister: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer select releases, then select the update you want (newest are at the bottom.) Click dowload and rename the file to MiSTer (i.e. delete the date bit) then ovewrite this file on the root of your MISTer SD card with the one you downloaded.

Main Mister update (190420) seems to break this CPS1 core, causing most CPS1 MRAs to freeze on boot requiring a hard reset. Reverting to last Mister update (25320) fixes the issue. Can anyone else confirm this?

Yes, same problem here.

I followed the instructions in the Readme file from the JT shared Google Drive and everything works beautifully. I actually found that watching the linked video (and other videos) confused matters because those guys put the files in a different folder structure. I just followed the readme file MiSTer section and it worked for me. Thank you JT for doing this - excellent work! :)

Can you see the CPS1 OSD menu? It should say JTCPS1 on the left margin

I can't figure out how to get CPS1 working on mister. I have every other core and arcade gamesworking. But when I try to play a CPS1 game it just goes black. I have all the files and tried putting them everywhere. Probably the most frustrating thing i've ever tried to figure out. It's unbelievable how insanely difficult it is to get working.

J
JOTEGO · April 19, 2020

Hi Neil, I'm sorry it's being difficult. It is no different from any other core in reality. Please check out this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkh-vnP4eUs&t=3m41s You can also link your Discord account to Patreon to get help in our channel where it's easy to have a live chat. A blank screen means normally that MiSTer cannot find the right MAME zip files.

I'm getting crazy flickering and and colors freaking out from the VGA port on the I/O board with this release. No problem with last week's :(

J
JOTEGO · April 19, 2020

I'm adding OSD controls for video sync signals next week. It's just impossible to get the image perfect on all analog screens otherwise. Sorry about this week's.

Many thanks for your continued amazing work!! And thanks for the dip switches and updates :)

Jo Tomiyori · April 18, 2020

Thank you so much! Now my boredom is gone thanks to your SF2 and other excellent CPS1 games!

J
JOTEGO · April 18, 2020

Hi Tomiyori-san, I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the core :-D

I wasn't aware Capcom ever did a CPS Changer version of Street Fighter Alpha, this was a really pleasant surprise! All things considered it's a pretty decent port (it's actually a CPS2 game but Capcom ported it to the CPS Changer, which was basically a CPS1 for home use). It's been a while since I fired up my CPS2 copy of Alpha but off the top of my head it sounds like the music takes a hit, but other than that it seems like a really decent port. For those interested, there's a side-by-side comparison video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCbuVstvE58 Hopefully Jose will be able to do a CPS2 core as playing SFA on the MiSTer is just too much of a tease!!!

J
JOTEGO · April 18, 2020

They look very very similar. Sound is more noticeable because of the different hardware. Thanks for the video link!

D
Davide Alidosi · April 18, 2020

Cool as usual and thanks to add a folder for main MRA! Just a little problem, from this release the picture is a little bit too down, how i can move it up?

J
JOTEGO · April 18, 2020

I'm going to upload a more centered version in an hour. I'm preparing it now

M
Mohamed HASSAIRI · April 18, 2020

I can't get the 3 bootlegs work, I used RetroDriven mame script to fetch the rom files.

J
JOTEGO · April 18, 2020

Some people were discussing that in our Discord channel. I am not related to that script so I cannot really help. If you load first a working core in mister and then try to change to an MRA file which fails, MiSTer should be able to show you an error message on screen .

M
Mottzilla · April 18, 2020

This update is really excellent. It looks and sounds identical to my Street Fighter II Champion PCB now. I really appreciate the centering of the analog image output. For me it's centered horizontally and almost vertically. It's just slightly low but I only noticed it on Carrier Air Wing with its status bar in the bottom left corner. You're doing amazing work.

Gaurav Kalra · April 17, 2020

I notice that the Dino Hunter starts from the wrong level. Not sure if this was an issue with the bootleg version that is being implemented by the core

J
JOTEGO · April 18, 2020

I think that's how the bootleg is. It may be sensitive to DIP settings though (I haven't checked it).

A
Adam Kessell · April 17, 2020

I too am getting loud Solid Buzz on Dino Hunter. It only seems to start after you coin up and press start.

D
David Hiles · April 18, 2020

Yes same here - has anyone got the sound working ok for this?

J
James · April 17, 2020

There's loud buzzing noise on Dino Hunter Chinese bootleg.

Shane Yates · April 17, 2020

Is there a possibility to have CRT centering as a core option? This latest update is quite low on the screen now (using a Sony PVM 20M4A and a Sony PVM 14QM).

M
Mottzilla · April 18, 2020

Is it centered horizontally now for you? For me it's actually very close to perfect now. It is slightly low cutting off a bit on the bottom. Maybe 4 scanlines or something like that. How many lines are cut off for you?

Awesome! Will give this a try later. Has there been any progress on timing accuracy for the 12Mhz games?

J

Not yet. I gave priority to DIP switches this week. Sorry.

D
Daniel Casadevall · April 17, 2020

Gracias José! Hay algún avance en esta versión en cuanto al problema del scandoubler?

J
JOTEGO · April 17, 2020

No. Los DIP me han llevado demasiado tiempo. Me pongo con ello mañana.
