SMS port of R-Type spanks ANY shooter on the NES. SMS was doing it big time... and we haven't even gotten to the Aleste games (Power Strike 1 and 2). Just more proof of what the SMS could have been.

Something that has to be pointed out... the SMS could only produce 64 colors in total and 32 colors at once. The Nintendo could only produce 54 colors and 24 at once... and MAN does it show when you look at SMS games. Nintendo definitely had the cream of the crop producing software for their console due to all of the popularity and sales... but imagine if the tables were reversed. I'd LOVE to see what the SMS would have done if Capcom, Konami, Namco, Sunsoft and Taito were focused on Sega's platform. Between these 5 best selling companies that primarily produced games for the NES... between ALL of them, only released 10 games on the SMS. What a world we never knew. SMS vs NES... strictly talking about hardware. SMS wins on: CPU GPU Memory Color Palate Colors on screen Colors at the same time The only category NES wins is: Sound capability
