Pastoral Village Stables [29x46]
Hey everyone!
This is the lastest battlemap in our cosy starter village series. If you want to find all of the maps in this series we've added a section in the Ancient Map Room which lists them all.
As usual the idea is to create buildings and areas that would be useful for a party of level 0 or 1 characters. And also as a homebase.
Maybe for this map you'd use it to keep and raise your steeds, or get your first horse in exchange for clearing the local woods from goblins. Perhaps the horses have all gone missing and you need to find them or maybe one of them is suddenly a unicorn one day and you have to work out what happened.
A reminder of some of the other maps in this series:

Love this series, as others! It’s hard to find them all, though and I swear there are some I’ve not been able to find as some are tagged differently. I’d there a Creake compilation post anywhere? Pretty please? 🙏🏻
They're all listed in the Ancient Map Room under their own section. :)
Lovely map (as usual)! Of note, the gridless link is incorrectly pointing to the gridded version.
Can you provide this map of the village??
I love this series, they are all very useful maps for common mundane environments that players are likely to encounter but there often aren't many map options out there for!
I love the infographics you put together for Creake and some of the other related map infographics. Those are very helpful.
Wonderful! I especially love the map with the ghost horses. I can imagine an adventure or short arc where one uses one of the regular maps, then the massacre or flood, then the haunted version. Or run it as a detective style adventure where the party is asked to investigate the massacre of the horses and works to figure out what happened in order to put the poor spirits to rest.
Love it! Do you happen to have a link to the village of Creake map? Sorry if I'm asking something that's been posted before, I'm relatively new and still figuring it out.
Following this up as I would also like to know what other maps in this series
Stunning work as always
currently running a campaign using this series so loving the new map! My players really enjoying it
Beautiful.
I will actually use them TODAY. Work of art.
These maps look great and honestly this whole series is just amazing. Most of your maps make me think about what kind of wild adventure I could run in them, but these really make me think about what kind of World I could make for them. And I absolutely love that.
I love this series, I know you've said this is the last one, but I will NEVER complain about more if/when you make them. Use them all the time, sometimes together, sometimes standalone. They are just very versatile, and the consistency across them has been awesome for enabling that homebase feel. If you want suggestions for future entries when you maybe one day return, I would personally love a granary added!
Really glad to hear that! We've got quite a few more of these planned. We'd at least like to make a bakery, a school and a witch hut. But we want to make sure they're actually useful to people and not just for our own satisfaction!
The problem I have with the way you've done things here is that you've made it so the $1 has an asset that is not optional (the horse). But for $5, you provide a version that doesn't have the horse. However the night version of the $1 version has no horse. Why wouldn't you have swapped those and offered no horse for $1 and then horse for $5? Makes no sense that none of your night maps have the horse asset yet your $5 version is toted as the "no horses" version. I find this to be a problem on most Patreon pages - giving us nice looking maps but then leaving things on there that we can't get rid of unless we "pay more money". Like jails that have prisoners in the cells or taverns that have patrons at the tables.... Defeats the whole "ability to customize and affect the theater of the mind". I've never understood why people do it this way. You could, like some Patreon creators do, include the horse asset as part of the pack. That would solve the problem of having a map with no horses and, optionally, having the horse. Just curious, what are your thoughts? Why create maps that are ultimately hard to continue using because sometimes you don't want the horse? Like if I wanted to run an adventure where the horses have run away... but there's clearly a horse on the map. Am I forced to always run the night version? Or forced to use a token that covers the horse? Sure, $4 isn't that expensive in the long run (it's a gallon of premium gas or a large fry from McDonalds), but it's also $4 that some people may not want to spend just to have the absence of a horse (and therefore, a more versatile map).
Hi Dyanosis, our idea was that the horse isn't visible on the night versions because we'd assume the horse is in the stable then. That was the reason for that decision. We usually turn off animals in our night variations, like birds, etc. because we assume they'd be off nesting. Similarly none of our maps have humans in them at all. There's no jails with prisoners and no taverns with patrons. You must be thinking of some other creator. Honestly I think this just scenario wasn't on our mind at the time of making the variations. It isn't meant as a 'gotcha!' to get $4 more from you. It's a horse stables so most of the variations have a horse in them, except for the No Horse variations. That was our thinking. We do recognize that $4 is a lot for some people, there's no arguing there. I will say though that the $5 tier gets you our entire catalogue of maps, which is around 5000 variations. It isn't just about grabbing $4 for a non-horse version of the map. The higher tier gets you everything we've ever made, which feels like a pretty generous offer, one that gets bigger (without raising the price) everytime we release a new pack. I hope that answers everything.
