⊹˚₊·‧Chapter 9: door_creak_04.wav
Pierrosie felt tears welling up in her eyes again. She hated that she was programmed like this, but there was nothing she could do besides wipe them away.
She was so terribly overwhelmed. She didn’t know what to do. She was afraid. Of triggering a hurtbox again. Of what the existence of the hurtboxes meant. And all the other changes in the code of her surroundings since it has gotten dark.
She could feel that she was unsafe.
Pierrosie closed her eyes to try to focus on processing and evaluating. Without the auditive and visual input, she might be able to come to a good conclusion.
If there was something out there — which there most likely was, given all the intel she had gathered by now — what could she do?
How were these… somethings programmed?
There was a chance that they were quest givers. Or plain environmental decoration.
There was also a chance that they were programmed to only interact with the mindfile datasets, like the Papa and the others, and would ignore her.
But there was also the possibility that they would trigger her hurtboxes. And maybe… maybe even something worse? Was there something worse than hurt?
Pierrosie couldn’t imagine. And she didn’t want to find out.
The calculations were clear: Even though she didn’t know the exact variables of the chances — and even if the unfavorable outcome was only 1% — the consequences for those outweighed the favorable ones.
Okay. She had made up her mind about how she wanted to feel about this.
Now about how to proceed.
She didn’t know where to start with contemplating about that, but then the Zooble came to mind — specifically a memory from when they were running a simulation - playing - something. Hide and Seek, they had called it. In which Pierrose was instructed to obscure her body behind objects so that she wasn’t perceivable anymore. She had learned then that the better her body was covered within the field of view from the searcher, the harder she was to find. And she was the hardest to find when she hid away in another room altogether.
She remembered the living area of this construction.
She knew which apartments were accessible. She knew how to get there. The transporters! Elevators, the others had called them.
With these factors now settled, she opened her eye again.
She couldn’t hear, but she was still able to see. For how long, she didn’t know. But most likely long enough to reach the former living quarters of the building.
She looked through the glass door of the store but couldn’t see anything.
As she opened the door, something happened.
She could see in the environmental code that everything that had previously been moving had now stopped.
Had… had the door made a… sound?
Did the sound alert the somethings?
Then, she could see frantic changes in the code.
She couldn’t understand the alterations yet — but she could conclude;
They were coming for her.
Pierrosie ran.
