Friday night before Memorial Day weekend that Jeff Bezos announced that the Expanse was saved (episode 8 was about to be aired) and it was like finding the sun shine again! Sorry I keep hitting enter when I am trying to hit cap! Several of the cast heard Bezos announce this live at a science convention and it was wonderful. I was so proud to be involved with saving a show that I thought deserved to be saved more than any show I have ever seen. It was a really great moment for all us Screaming Firehawks!
Bora Kutlu's short films for example) and then the funding campaign to fly a banner over Amazon headquarters. The cast, starting with Cas Anvar were also involved, doing their own videos and interviews. We kept hearing the sets were going to be torn down. It was a very stressful 2 weeks but then I heard on
E5 and E6, many reactors were so devistated but the on line activity picked up almost immediately and there were on line petitions, stellar videos (see
February 2018 and there was a major push to get more people to watch the show and watch it live. I remember following the Normies at the time who were posting recommendations about what to do to boost the numbers. I heard the news of the cancellation between
The rumors had been rumbling since the beginning of S3 in
Viewers had known after episode 5 that the show was cancelled, May 11th, two weeks later the show was picked up by amazon. So we knew that there would be more of The Expanse. What I find interesting about the situation is that the makers of the show likely knew that they might be cancelled. The series had been wrapped and in the can for some time when cancellation was announced. All of us watching the show live knew that cancellation rumblings were out there and we needed to get as many folks as we could to watch it live. There's no way that Naren Shankar and the team didn't know they might not get to make more of The Expanse. I think an interesting way to view the last 2 eps are as a probable series finale. As lovers of sci fi we know all too well that sometimes you'll just never see a show again, and that leads you to watching 8 seasons of Castle cause there might be a firefly references, and it was fun, Nathan Fillion is great., but 8 seasons.
It definitely closes a chapter, but as Cas Anvar has said, it's like a three-act opera and we've only seen the first act.
Re: Car Gee. You can't fully appreciate what a great actor she is until you see her in an interview. She is nothing like Drummer in real life. Of course, I'm impressed by the acting of all the cast.
AfterBuzz TV had Cara and Dominique as guests for the S3E10 review and they are so fun together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chbJOfDeF04
Excellent review, Molly. I was really impressed with the acting of Cara Gee and David Staitharn in this. Have have you a chance to catch any interviews with Cara Gee? She is so not like Drummer in her voice or temperament. I'm amazed at how consistent she is. I agree with with what you said about Anna going after Clarissa and the show supports that. But I think she might have had a little help. It's never revealed in the show, and this is a minor book spoiler, but she was basically high as a kite on a painkiller and amphetamine drug cocktail. It's hilarious because it took a while to get to the Roci and half way through the drugs wore off and she's like, "WTF am I doing", lol. Anna is impulsive by nature and the drugs just amplified that. In the song that Ashford was singing right after the scene with Anna and Tilly, I thought I heard "Tilly go", but I think it was 'Til thee go'. It's actually based on the Irish Song, Sam Hall. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-vfdMhcbJ0
English folk song actually, but one we irish nicked and made our own ;) One of my favourite songs, and would love to have heard the full belter version :)
