There was a short scene showing that when Holden detonated the torpedoes, all the screens in the Razorback went blank. Obviously the same happened on the UN Escort ship, so they couldn't "see" the incoming Roci.
I’m sure that the earlier hybrids were also children, but not necessarily with the specific genetic disorder mentioned in this episode. The one the Roci crew found in the incineretor was definitely a child, as Prax explicitly said. And remember, when we first met Prax on the belter cargo/refugee ship, they said to him there are no children there among the refugees, that is, all children just disappeared from Ganymede when the mirror fell, supposedly having been collected by Mao's men to use them.
I just noticed a writing slip-up. When Alex is talking about IFF, Naomi is like what is that? Yet she reconfigured it in S1E7 (windmills) to identify martian ships as enemies. I realize they probably had to remind the audience what it is, and they may not have referred to it as IFF previously.... but still
That's it, I'm done wth this program.... :P
Great reaction and review. You seemed to be intensely at the edge of your seat for most of it. I think a lot of the early Hybrids may have been created from the irradiated victims on Eros and only later Strickland discovered that children with the immune deficiency may allow some control. We briefly met Katoa's dad when he told Prax and the crew where to find the chicken guy. Katoa: 'You want to see something cool?' That was creepy and so not cool. Anna Volovodov in the book is from Moscow and has a definite Russian accent. I'm not sure if it's mentioned this episode, but when TV Anna says she runs a clinic in St. Petersburg, St. Pete's, Florida immediately came to mind. ;)
Awesome reaction! Great analysis at the end, as always. Is Jules Pierre Mao growing a heart? Maybe. I think it's more that he was giving up on the whole 'greater good' mission since he couldn't control the protomolecule and without having a clear motivation to see it through, the 'end justifies the means' rhetoric no longer holds any weight. I guess once you take away their whole purpose for doing something, even megalomanics can see the light. I think the crew interacting with Bobbie and Avasarala is going to be interesting! Very interesting.
Mao feels that the Governments are short-sighted and only he sees the bigger picture and the potential and the threat of the Protomolecule. Like when Strickland says that if they can control it, they could stop what is going on on Venus, at least I got the vibe that Venus scares the bejesus out of them, and Mao is desperate to figure out what the protomolecule is all about, regardless of the human cost.
When you finish this season, look up the behind the scenes video Cas Anvar did for the series 3 wrap. It's funny seeing Elizabeth Mitchell when she's not in character as Anna. She's a total goofball. Edit: re: the hybrids, in the books the hybrids were made from children as well from what I remember.
