The Expanse Season 2 Episode 10 Full Review and Reaction!
Hi everyone! Attached you will find the google drive link to my full review and reaction to Season 2 Episode 10 of The Expanse! The edited (shorter) version will be posted as well, before the end of the evening today. Unfortunately, Hannibal will probably not be up until tomorrow. During my Dad's visit over the weekend we went out to eat and to other public places and I seem to have caught yet another respiratory infection. So, I ended up only being up for watching and reacting to one show (and I obviously chose The Expanse haha). Hannibal will also be coming soon though! Enjoy and thanks everyone!
All the best,
Molly

I'd say a couple more bashes and chicken guy would be dead. Holden, "I would have stopped him", right. It took Prax to get through to Amos.
That Roma guy is quite like the Hound, only smaller. But he likes chicken.
You got chicken? Thats what I like
Yeah, the folks under the bridges (etc.) are a kind of off the grid population which in the show's world are known as "undocumented" (obviously a different meaning from how that term is used today). Bobbie, you would think, would be fairly impressed by this, since it shows a large population of Earthers that refuse to be "Takers," the derogatory term Martians use for Earthers on Basic.
Apparently the people in the tent city are not on basic. You hear the drones overhead advertising it , most likely directed at the tent city folks, but for one reason or another these people fell through the cracks, chose not to have it, or are ineligible for some reason. I think the books might give a better explanation of Basic but my understanding is there's no money involved, just food, shelter, clothes, and healthcare provided. It's interesting with the rising oceans and the sea walls that there's an actual beach there. I assume the beach has been built on top of landfill from the rubble from the construction of the sea walls.
When this episode first aired, a few people commented that the Nico character might represent a bit of a trope, the so-called "Magical Negro" (term coined by Spike Lee, no less). I personally think that was off base, particularly given how inclusive this show regularly is and how well the writers usually subvert the usual array of TV Tropes, but it goes to show how many landmines TV writers have to routinely navigate, no matter how acclaimed their work is. I enjoyed that interaction quite a bit; it gave Bobbie a look at the real (warts & all) Earth, something that I think sticks with her later on. Another sort of interesting thing about Bobbie's trip to the ocean: A lot of people who live in or are familiar with NYC geography found it kind of interesting that Bobbie could walk from the UN building (on the East River, across from Queens and Long Island) to a shore point with a clear view of open ocean. There's certainly nowhere in today's Manhattan where you can see that kind of ocean view, so where was she? Some people postulated maybe Brooklyn, which with rising sea levels might afford that sort of view on its southern shore. There's a YouTube series (now defunct, sadly) called "Let's Do the Science" which commented on the actual scientific principles shown in episodes of The Expanse; the one that was done for this episode (you can find it on YouTube) included a bit on this. Kind of fun for nerdy Sci-Fi types (like me, I guess) :)
Actually I very much enjoyed the actor who played Nico, the man who asked for the osteo X and helped Bobbie adjust to the horizon. I thought is was so interesting that he wanted to be a doctor at age 17 and was still waiting at age 52!! But instead of giving up he continues to try and help others who are getting ill with sewer water and presumably malaria (he mentions "the new chloroquine" which is used to treat malaria). Historically Malaria was eradicated from the US in the 1940s by the use of pesticides but in doing so we have impacted both the birds and now the bees... but I digress! Also I found out much later that that rather calm "ocean" is actually Lake Ontario a body of water I happen to live near! And it can look like that on a calm day with no wind. The ocean tends to have waves due to tides etc. although there are very rare occasions it can be that calm!! I love the whole interaction there with Bobbie, Nico and then with Avasarala. A very short but meaningful connection that helps Bobbie figure out her part in all this.
Me too! Another beautiful scene delivered by another amazing guest cast! The Expanse is SO good at that.
I wanted to reach through my screen and hand you my relief inhaler. Asthma is not fun. You definitely have Amos dialed in. Holden has been one-track ever since Eros - Find and destroy all traces of the protomolecule at all costs. I call the guy who helped Bobbi "Sneaky Pete". Maybe he should audition for a play, a bit dramatic. Just kidding, that was kind of cool. I guess he's supposed to be like some guardian or helper spirit.
Yeah, but Mark wards Ep.5 breakdown is even better!! New Complex was only upset because it was Miller. Molly and Mark got it on a whole nother level imo. They actually appreciate the entire scene and the story behind it. New Complex didn't touch on any of that, at all. All she did was no,no,no ect it was all about Miller for her.
Thanks for another great review. You seriously are very insightful and are catching stuff that I didn't notice until the 2nd or 3rd time watching :) Hope you are feeling better soon, nothing a bit of protomolecule wouldn't fix I hope :) BTW, If you want to have a bit of a laugh, and realise that you were far from alone in being emotionally scarred by Miller's fate, you should see 'newcomplex's reaction to that episode, she just released it a few days ago, and lets just say, she was quite upset and agitated over the episode. :) Get well soon. :)
I think you overlooked/forgot a few episodes earlier when Jules Piere Mao threatened Errinwright, he told him he'd have to find another patreon who shared his goals. Errinwright had copies of the data for Project Caliban because it was originally his project. Everytime you saw Errinwrights reactions the past few episodes leading up to the reveal I was wondering if you'd connect the dots before they revealed it :) It wasn't because "that idea terrifies me", it was "hey, that's my weapon"
