The Expanse Season 2 Episode 2 Full Review and Reaction!
Good morning everyone! Here is a link to my full reaction and review of the second episode of season 2 of The Expanse! Please excuse the different setting and the imperfect camera angle. I wanted to get this episode filmed for you - but also, really, REALLY didn't want to get out of bed! Haha :P
The edited (early access) version of this episode will be posted later in the day on Monday. It's going to be hard for me to cut it down though, given how intense and packed this episode was! What a ride! Thanks everyone!
All the best,
Molly

Great reaction and comments as usual, Molly, and as others have noted, you ain't seen nothing yet. But this is definitely a favorite episode of mine as well, for the realistic battle sequence (with holes being punched in the ship, and with poor Amos getting tossed around between the inner and outer hulls like some sort of 3D pinball), for the great banter between Miller and Diogo (Belter kid), and so much more. But yeah, there's more coming. Scott's point about Phoebe (up near the top of the comment section) is an important one, and it kind of blows apart Dresden's (evil mad scientist guy's) argument. Even if Phoebe was sent here as a weapon to take us out (and there's no clear evidence of that either, but let's stipulate that it was), it was sent a LONG time ago, so either the evil aliens who supposedly sent it have multi million year lifespans and are playing a very, very, very long game here, or the argument that we need to harness the Protomolecule's capabilities before its makers attack us is pretty specious. I have no doubt that Dresden has convinced himself of this whole story in order to feel good about what he's doing (or perhaps just to sell it better), but it's really a pretty bogus argument if you think about it for more than 10 seconds. In reality, Eros was a brutal genocide, nothing less, and the rest is just spin. Not even very good spin. A couple new character names for you; you'll learn them organically in time, but it's not really a spoiler to mention their names so you don't have to refer to them as "Fred's second in command, I think" or other things like that. The kid who was stealing water and now thinks he's invincible is (as I mentioned a moment ago) Diogo Harari. Fred's second in command (Director of Operations is, I believe, her official title; she's also in charge of security) is Camina Drummer and, as others have told you, she's a great character and a fan fave. The Martian Marine team (absent from this episode, but they'll be back) are privates Travis (the "Earther") and Hillman, Corporal Sa'id, and their leader, Gunnery Sergent Roberta "Bobbie" Draper (also sometimes called "Gunny," an affectionate reference to her rank). And the evil (and now deceased) mad scientist is (was) Antony Dresden. So much good stuff ahead! I know I keep repeating that, but man, if you only knew... :)
You're right! I am so sorry. For some reason I overlooked part 2.
So the short reaction cut off before the episode ended and this one doesn't have a video so all I can do is listen. I'm so confused.
Hey Paul! For the full length reactions, I cannot include video images due to copyright issues. So, the best way to watch the full episode is to simultaneously pull up my reaction video in one window and the episode in another. All that being said, the shorter reaction was divided into two videos this time! So, maybe you only saw the first video? Part 2 is up there and contains the ending of the episode as well as my detailed discussion!
Great reaction and review. I really appreciate how into The Expanse you are. I've been seeing these full reaction videos pop up and have been on the fence about upping my tier to be able to watch them, but you've done it, you've pushed me over.
So NON SPOILER comment! The names of ships are very interesting and have some history behind them. The Guy Molinari was a name that caught my attention as I lived in the NYC area when Guy Molinari was a well known political figure from Staten Island. It turns out that the writers called the ship NOT after the man/politician but after one of the Staten Island ferries that he rode every day from Staten Island! I just love touches like that. And the attention to detail during the battle is so amazing!! When they are under thrust, when they are in zero G, just rewatch those parts and be truly amazed at how great they are at trying to be as close to reality as possible! LOVE this episode and have probably watched it 10 times at least. If you are not hooked now, nothing will keep you going but I have a feeling that you are clearly deeply involved now.
Thoth: Egyption God of the Moon, Magic and Writing Anubis: Egyption God of the Dead Scopuli: the Sirenum scopuli were three small rocky islands where the Sirens of Greek mythology lived and lured sailors to their deaths
I'm totally down with the comfy bed reactions.
...and your not so subtle edit you took to compose yourself at around 44:00 after Alex took out the Stealth ship didn't go unnoticed. The victory music really sells it. First time I saw/heard that I was choked up as well.
This is the best scifi space battle sequence ever done in my opinion. They needed a way to get close to that stealth ship hiding at Thoth station, without beeing detected as a threat. They managed that by hiding the Rocinante in the rader shadow of the Guy molinari, when they got close enough to Thoth they released and pretended to be some loose cargo that the Guy molinari had dropped. The attention to detail just to keep track of everything inside the ships and the characters, when they experience zero gravity and g-forces is incredible. In addition to that you have Amos scrambling to repair a thruster and Miller + 50 angry belters racing towards the station in their breaching pods.
Great reaction! Been waiting for this one. My analysis of the Fred/Holden/Miller reactions at the end is a little different. Holden is obviously horrified and wants justice. The human in Fred is also horrified but so is the tactician in him. Fred wants those responsible to pay, but the tactician in him doesn't want the data gleaned about the proto molecule (and the beings who sent it) wasted because he is a soldier who now better understands the technological deficit humans have against it. It is also important to note that Phoebe didn't get here a few years ago. It was sent back when our planet held little more than primordial goo and never finished it's journey because Saturn's gravity caught it first.
hahaha.... This is the first time I'm gonna watch a Youtuber reacting from the bed. I hope u're feeling a bit better.
