Explore the Mirrorlight Caverns — New Setting and Subclass!

Mirrorlight caverns are named for their unique mirrorlight crystals: magical gems capable of refracting light to form partially-realized illusions. These winding caves are inhabited by creatures that dazzle and bewilder prey with tricks of light, hungrily stalking those who may have been lured into the tunnels and become lost. Other denizens, such as duergar and deep gnomes, thrive in these chambers, relishing in their illusory magic and refractory crystals. Mirrorlight caves are known to betray the eyes and memories of most navigators, so traditional underground exploration here is challenging at best. Despite the risks, those that can unearth the potent minerals, hidden truths, forgotten magic, and other ancient treasures in a mirrorlight cave are certain to be rewarded for their adventures.

Hey heroes! The mirrorlight item series was first introduced in the Saddlebag's first year's worth on content, but now we finally get to experience where it is that these magical crystals originate from! Dare to dive deep into these strange caves filled with mind-bending tricks of the light and crafty predators!

These new settings also include some new features, including monster illustrations, suggested regional conflicts, and sample narrations for the GM to help set the scene! We're working hard to keep these concise and interesting to keep the attention of both you the reader and your players!

We also have started official subclass playtest sessions on the Discord, so the version of this illusion-generating rogue you see here has been through some playtesting phases already. As always, further revisions will be made here with published updates as they're released!

Misdirector Updates:

All files below are always up to date.

version 1.13

Clarified how your duplicates' equipment functions. Gave the duplicates immunity to psychic and poison damage and can't be charmed, which makes sense in terms of the flavor. A venomous snake bite will still destroy a duplicate, but a poison gas cloud wouldn't, for example.

This setting and the subclass are very interesting and I've loved everything I've read so far. I do have a couple questions about the Misdirector's duplicates. Are they considered creatures or objects for the sake of things like targeting, spells, opportunity attacks, and being immune to conditions? Additionally, can the duplicates physically interact with other objects.

They'd be considered creatures for the sake of targeting, spell, opportunity tacks, and conditions! The duplicates can't interact with physical objects: they're not like an unseen servant in that regard!

Features are very similar to the Echo Knight from Wildemount, but I think this might be more balanced than that.

Hey can you please clarify what the HP for the Misdirector's Illusory Duplicate is? I'd assume it would have one hit point like the Echo Knight's double does but I feel like I might be missing something.

If it takes any damage, they vanish! So it's 1 hit point, really.

Ooh I love the sound of this!
