Elite Workshop Day 1 — What kind of item should we make?

Hey heroes! It's time to make a new item together!

Please vote on a direction and leave a comment with an item idea that's as refined or as vague as you like.

Three or more of your commented suggestions relating to the winning item direction will be up for a follow-up vote tomorrow!

Remember that this will be an official Saddlebag item and will not credit anyone for the ideas generated through this process. Please only bring ideas you're comfortable with sharing to the workshop!

Let's make something exciting together! See you back here tomorrow!

Keep on adventuring!

**Parchment of Personage** *Scroll, rare* This scroll is inscribed with the vague, shadowed outline of a humanoid. As an action, you can speak your name to transfer yourself and your equipment into the page as the image shifts to a copy of yourself. While you are contained in the page you have no ability to sense or affect your surroundings. As an action, another creature can tear the page, causing you to appear in an unoccupied space adjacent to it. The scroll has an 10 AC. If it takes damage, you revert and all damage is carried over to your normal form. **Spectacles of Restless Research** *Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement)* These spectacleswere designed to help a young mage continue his studies by reading even when asleep. They are worn with age, but the lenses occasionally flash with a mild blue light. When you take a long rest while wearing these glasses, you can choose to manifest your spirit within a limited area. You gain the benefits of the mage hand spell with the following changes: -The spell manifests as an ethereal representation of your entire body, wearing the glasses. -You can see and hear through the spell, though you have disadvantage on all checks made to sense things beyond a 30ft radius. -The spell lasts until you complete the long rest. While using this spiritual form, you still gain the benefits of a long rest. **Portable Library** *Wondrous item, rare* This strange wooden box has a series of dials at its base and a pair of hinged, glass-fronted doors. The inside of the box appears to be a small set of shelves for holding books, but is reality an extradimensional space that acts as a colossal bookshelf of which only a small part is visible at any time. When a book is placed into the box, it is instantly sorted with books of similar topics. The library can hold up to 1000 volumes, and any attempt to place in a new book when it is already full causes 1d100 random books to tumble out. Rotating the dials changes the portion of the bookshelf that is immediately available, "scrolling" across the bookshelf. The books inside are sorted spine-out, and can be easily retrieved while the knobs are turned to their location. As an action, you can turn the dials to the location of any book you are familiar with. If it is not in the library, you instead turn to a random section of the shelf. **Imitation Window** *Wondrous item, common* This odd glass token looks like a miniature window, and faint sunlight can always be seen through it. As an action you can speak its command word and place it against a wall to cause it to stick, rapidly unfurling into what appears to be a window. The view from the window is always a pastoral mountain scene regardless of the wall it is placed on, and sheds bright light for 20ft and dim light for an additional 20. This light appears to be sunlight, but a creature can make a DC 12 Wisdom (Perception) check to determine that the light is not. As an action you can speak the window's command word again to cause it to fold back down into a small token. This item was originally created to help scholars working in deep vaults keep some semblance of the outside.

Library - a bust that looks like the creature attuned to it. You can use it like a familiar to perceive through it, and speak through it as well.

[Library] Skeleton Page Wondrous Item, Legendary This piece of paper seemingly torn off a book is blank, with frayed edges, but is otherwise untearable, unburnable, and indesctructible. As an action, you can put this page over a book's missing page. The paper magically attaches to the book with the original writing of the missing page. You can use an action to tear the page off the book. The page retains its writing for 8 hours before it turns blank again. While something is written on the page, you cannot attach it to a book's torn page. Whenever the page turns blank again, roll a d20. On a 1, the page loses its magic for 30 days.

[Library] Hadiya's Handy Quill Weapon (dart), Rare (requires attunement) While attuned to this quill pen, you can use a bonus action to speak its command word to turn it into a feather shaped tattoo that appears on any part of your body. While you have this tattoo, you can speak the quill's command word to cause the tattoo to disappear and turn back into a quill in your hand. This quill produces its own ink, which you can mentally change color (no action required). After you make a ranged attack using this quill, it reappears back on your hand. When you attack a target with this quill, you can cause the target to be covered with ink. The target must make a DC 15 Dexterity Saving Throw or be covered in glowing ink, mimicking the effects of the Faerie Fire spell on it for 1 minute. Once this property of the quill has been used, you can't use it again until the next dawn.

[Library] Lamina Live - Scroll, uncommon A 3 foot wide roll of magical paper, crafted by a transmutation specialist, and marked with a faint "Lamina Live" watermark. The roll can be wrapped snugly around objects over the course of 1 minute, creating a false skin, to cast animate objects. The spell does not require concentration when an object is animated in this way, its duration becomes 8 hours, only 5 objects can be animated, and only small and tiny objects can be selected from the spell's description. When the spell ends, the roll of paper skin sheds from the animated objects and becomes non magical shreds of parchment. ***Curse.*** The creator of this item was in fact an evil trickster wizard, with a penchant for creating items that would wreak havoc on unsuspecting patrons. The curse is triggered when an object animated by this paper passes in front of a reflective surface, like a mirror, still water or sufficiently polished metal. The watermark on the paper flashes with deep crimson energy, revealing the creator's intended hidden curse printed in the paper; "Evil Animal". The animated objects are no longer under your control, and immediately attack you and your allies.

[Library] Book of Forced Tutelage Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement) This old textbook's title swirls without form until picked up, the letters transforming into the words HOMEWORK across the front in a language that they know (but not their starting language). While attuned to this book, if you spend 24 hours over a period of 3 days or fewer studying the book's contents, you gain proficiency in a skill of your choice. Once completed, the book snaps shut and disappears, forcing you to become unattuned, Curse. This book is cursed and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. You cannot unattune to the book unless you complete its task or are the target of a greater restoration spell or other similar magic. While cursed, you can only speak in one language you know that is not your starting language (GM's choice if multiple languages are options). If you only have your starting languages, then your GM picks one of the following for you to speak in during the duration of the curse: Abyssal , Infernal, or Celestial.

Book of Compelling Wonderous item, Rare This magic book has no discernable text written in it. Anyone who looks at the open pages of this book must make a DC 17 Wisdom check or be charmed by the book and unable to look away. While charmed this way, you giggle and chuckle continuously as if what you are reading is continuously funny. (This thing is only a rare due to it's high DC. I would put it uncommon otherwise)

What about a magical library that appears at a desert oasis only during the solstice and 'may' contain a "Scroll of One More Day". The spell is a Time Portal that moves the entire party either forward or backwards for up to 6 days. The cost to those travelling this way is # years for # days travelled. Be careful for travelling backwards in time replaces everything you did in the past including having to fight a battle over. Time is a cunning adversary. Once used the scroll dies from all Time Streams. You cannot go back to the Library and find it again. Sorry.
