Day and night are two sides of the same coin. The same face. The same blade. We aren't so different, but are nevertheless anything but the same.

Out of curiosity - why would dusk do more necrotic damage than dawn does radiant?

It's just to keep damage dice the same: maces do 1d6 bludgeoning, and sickles do 1d4 slashing. So to keep dice the same between forms, this does 1d4 radiant and 1d6 necrotic, respectively.
