Elite Workshop Day 1 — What kind of item should we make?
Hey heroes! It's time to make a new item together!
Please vote on a direction and leave a comment with an item idea that's as refined or as vague as you like.
Three or more of your commented suggestions relating to the winning item direction will be up for a follow-up vote tomorrow!
Remember that this will be an official Saddlebag item and will not credit anyone for the ideas generated through this process. Please only bring ideas you're comfortable with sharing to the workshop!
Let's make something exciting together! See you back here tomorrow!
Keep on adventuring!

**Mask of Mortar** *Wondrous magic item, common* This mask comes in a variety of shapes, from the grotesque to the fanciful. It has no straps or ties. You can place this mask on your face and speak its command word as an action to bind it in place. Any creature other than you must succeed on a DC 15 Strength (Athletics) check to remove it. **Fools' Invitation** *Scroll, rare* This odd paper is covered with elaborate, fanciful scrollwork and bears the icon of a jester at its center. As an action, you can hold this scroll aloft and shout its command word, destroying the page in a flash of vibrant, multicolored light. When this happens, 8 identical illusory jesters appear next to you and you are magically disguised to match them. These illusions seem completely real, including sounds, smells, and temperature, but cannot be physically interacted with and vanish if they take damage. When they appear and at the start of each of your turns, the images move up to 30ft in random directions, appearing to dance chaotically around any obstacles or creatures in their way. The illusory jesters and the disguise last for 1 minute or until you lose concentration (as if concentrating on a spell). **Frost Parade** *Wondrous item, ??? (requires attunement)* This strange, oblong snow globe contains a scene of a parade passing through a snow-covered town. As an action, you can shake the globe to create a spectral vision of the parade formed from frost and ice in a line 30ft long and 15ft wide originating from you. Each enemy within this area must make a DC XX Constitution saving throw or take XdX cold damage and have its speed reduced to 0 until the start of your next turn as its feet are frozen to the ground. On a success it takes half as much damage and is not frozen. Additionally, each ally within this area gains XdX temporary hit points as the frost condenses around them in the form of the parade's uniforms. You gain twice these temporary hit points as the frost forms the parade leader's uniform. **Solid Foundation** *Wondrous item, common* This small makeup sponge has a simple arcane pattern spiraling across its surface. When you dip it in body paint or skin dyes and hold it against your skin for 1 minute, the color spreads across your entire body. When applied in this way, the paint is resistant to being rubbed off and can't be forcibly removed. It remains for 24 hours or until you hold the sponge against your skin for 1 minute again, reabsorbing the paint.
[Festival] Certa Closure Wondrous item, ? This dirty bag once belong to a fallen winter fey that collected misbehaving fauns. This bag acts as a bag of holding with one additional dark feature. When you successfully grapple a medium sized or smaller creature, you can stuff the target creature into your bag. While a creature is inside the bag, they are banished to a harmless demiplane. While there, the target is incapacitated. The target remains there until someone spends an action removing them from the bag, or the bag takes 20 damage, at which point the target reappears in the nearest unoccupied space. The bag has 15 AC and resistances to non-magical weapons.
[Festival] Brumal Hat Wondrous Item, uncommon (requires attunement) While you are attuned to this hate, you can speak the command word to cast the alter self spell with the changes listed below. Speaking the command word again ends the effect. • You take the shape of snowperson • You gain immunity to cold weather • Your movement is reduced to 0. • While you remain motionless, you are indistinguishable from an ordinary snowperson
It would be really cool to see a magical carnival/festival food like a magic caramel apple, or maybe a cursed carnival doll prize?
Tricksy Pixie A stuffed doll adorned in striped clothes and a pointed hat, and has a spherical wood head with a painted face of devious pixie. It is enchanted with subtle illusion magic that always makes it look like it is staring directly at you. As an action, you can squeeze the dolls stuffed belly and speak a short phrase to be recorded. The doll will repeat the recording in a high-pitch voice every 30 minutes for the next 8 hours. It can only have one recording at a time, and squeezing its belly to record a new phrase replaces the previous recording.
A magical item that carries a boon as well as a drawback (curse). +1 flaming sword that loses its power unless its wielder sets a habitable structure on fire. Something that grants invisibility but for 24 hours (or longer) takes away the users shadow and reflection.
[Festival] Aerial's Silken Sash Wondrous item, rare A luxurious and and fine silk belt once used by a great performer for stunning displays of acrobatics. As a bonus action, you can speak the command word to have the belt unravel from your waist and transform into a 30 ft. silk rope. While it is in its rope form, you can hold one end of the rope and cast the mage hand cantrip, but instead of a spectral hand, you control the rope (which follows the rest of the spell's description). You can use a bonus action to return the rope to a belt, which shrinks to fit you comfortably.
[Festival] Home Brew Potion, very rare This potion is rich in flavor. After consuming a home brew potion, you can recite a tale of grandiose adventures, which takes 10 minutes to complete. At the end of that time, each creature that can hear you gains a home brew inspiration die, which is a d12. Once within the next hour, a creature with this special inspiration can roll the die and add the number rolled to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw it makes. The creature must decide to use this die before rolling the d20.
Neverending sack Wondrous Item, common This white and red paper bag has been enchanted as to always have popcorn inside.
Sugarcloud Spinner Wand, common. While holding this wand, you can generate a fluffy coating of spun sugar floss at the end of it after one minute of concentration. You choose the color, shape, and size of the cloud when you use this action. Once the cloud is gone, the wand becomes an edible stick of candy and loses its other properties.
Just an idea for a festival; I have a character who grew up in a travelling circus, and I think Animal Handling is a little overlooked as a skill in general. How about something like this: Ringmaster's Lash Weapon (whip), requires attunement. When attuned to this whip, you have a +1 to Wisdom (Animal Handling) checks. As an action, you can crack the whip, and creatures within a thirty foot radius must make a Wisdom saving throw or become charmed or frightened (your choice). A creature can repeat this save at the end of it's turn or after taking damage, and upon a success, cannot be charmed or frightened in this way until 24 hours have passed. Edit: I thought of spell effects that could be used with this, but 'charm monster' and 'dominate beast' are both fourth-level spells, and given how some circuses treated their animals, maybe 'beast bond' would be a little inappropriate.
In this vein, what about like a rug or small stage that casts Irresistible Dance on beasts who step on it?
