Workshop Week 39 — What kind of item should we make?
Hey heroes! It's that time again!
Please leave a comment with an item idea that's as refined or as vague as you like.
There will be a second poll tomorrow featuring multiple of your commented suggestions using the winning direction from the poll today.
No stream this week! No change to the schedule or anything, but I'm a little under the weather and don't want to stress my voice!
Remember that this will be an official Saddlebag item and will not credit anyone for the ideas generated through this process. Please only bring ideas you're comfortable with sharing to the workshop!
Let's make something exciting together! See you tomorrow!

Treasure island - a single plate from the back of a dragon turtle shell. When cast out into open water, it floats to the surface and glints as if the sun is reflecting off a pile of gold. When viewed from more than 150ft away, it always appears as a far off island on the horizon, only breaking the illusion once you get close enough.
Steam Rebreather Rod, rare This metal rod has a number of vents, along with a forged dragon turtle beak designed to fit over the lower face. When you hold the rod between your teeth, you gain a swimming speed of 60ft, can breath and speak underwater, and can speak, read, and write draconic and aquan.
Driftwood Cane Rod, very rare (requires attunement) This cane is carved from a piece of driftwood surmounted with an infant dragon turtle skull, and is always warm to the touch. You gain resistance to fire damage, can breath in water, and have a swim speed of 40 ft while holding this cane. Additionally, as an action you can focus on the form of this rod to imbue yourself with its power, transforming you into a small dragon turtle. This uses the red dragon wyrmling stat block, with the following changes: your walking speed is 20ft, no fly speed, a swim speed of 40ft, the amphibious trait, resistance to fire damage instead of immunity, and your fire breath changes to boiling steam and ignores resistance to to being submerged in water.
Turtle's Wheel Wondrous item, very rare This ship's helm is made of rough wood from a wreck of a ship destroyed by a dragon turtle, and is carved with a symbol of the creature. When installed on a ship, it grants the ship creature's resilience, giving it an AC of 20 and resistance to fire damage. Any checks made to navigate or keep the ship from capsizing are made at advantage. Additionally a creature at the helm of the ship can speak its command word while in contact with the wheel to summon a spectral dragon turtle's head, mimicking the dragon turtle's steam breath ability from any point adjacent to the ship. Once used, this ability cannot be used again until the next dawn.
Steam Trap Hunting trap, very rare This large bone hunting trap is carved to resemble the head of a dragon turtle. When you use your action to place the trap, it anchors itself regardless of terrain, and is even able to maintain its position in water. When in water, it will automatically face towards the closest creature. When a creature steps on this trap or swims into it the jaws snap shut, and it must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw or take 1d12 piercing damage and stop moving. At the end of each of the trapped creature's turns the trap releases a blast of superheated steam, dealing 3d6 fire damage to all creatures within a 10ft sphere. A creature can use its action to make a DC 17 Strength (Athletics) check, freeing itself or another creature on a success. Each time the check fails the trapped creature takes 1d12 piercing damage. Once the creature is released, the trap loses steam and no longer deals fire damage until the next dawn.
Steam Powered Turtle Ski Vehicle, Very Rare This water vehicle is made from the plates of a dragon turtle and contains machinery powered by its steam-powered breath capabilities. Up to two creatures, including the driver, can straddle the seat of this water vehicle to ride it. This vehicle has a speed of 40 when traveling along the surface of water. This vehicle has X charges and regains charges every Y hours. You may spend a charge to have this vehicle triple its speed for the turn or to have it erupt a burst of hot steam around it, causing all creatures within 10 feet of the vehicle, including underwater, to make a DC 18 constitution saving throw. Creatures that fail take 7d6 fire damage on a failed save or half damage on a success and being underwater does not grant resistance to this damage. Steam Powered Turtle Mech Armor (Plate), Very Rare This set of armor is made from the plates of a dragon turtle and has various valves, tanks, and pulleys that allow it to take full advantage of the anatomy of the dragon turtle it’s made from to power itself using steam. This armor grants you resistance to fire damage, a walking and swimming speed of 30 feet, and has air reserves to allow you to breathe underwater for up to 10 minutes. As an action, you can unleash the steam power of this mech to give yourself the effects of the haste spell. After using this effect, you must finish a short or long rest to use it again.
Draco barding. Can be equipped on any mountable beast. The mount grows a thick armored shell, granting it a +2 AC in addition to the armor bonus of the barding. The mount also gains the amphibious trait and a swim speed equal to its walking speed.
Beasial Barding (drider). Can be equipped on any mountable beast. Changes the appearance of the beast to a drider. The mount gains the spider climb ability, and you can unwillingly fall from the mount.
Spiked turtle shell bracers; +1 to unarmed strikes (aka backhand) plus one charge for every unarmed strike (max two per turn); charge ability - release scalding steam in a 30’ x 5’ line dealing 1d6 fire damage per charge stored (up to five max), DC15 Con Save = half damage
Beasial Barding (death dog) Can be equipped on any mountable beast. Changes the appearance of the beast to a death dog. When you make a melee attack against a target within 5 ft., you can use a bonus action to allows the illusionary second deathdog head to make a bite attack.
