Workshop Week 18 — Meet the Mindmaster's Monocle!

Hey heroes! Here's your preview of the item made during the stream this week! This can still change between now and when it's officially released, but here's your first look at this exciting new item!

Thanks for coming out and hanging online! See you next week!

Mindmaster's Monocle
Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement by a wizard)

This ancient golden monocle's lens is a roughly hewn ruby. While you wear the monocle, it magically floats in front of your eye, instead of resting on your face, and the ruby lens is perfectly clear. While peering through the lens, you always know if a creature you can see is concentrating on a spell. You perceive a concentrating creature's head as being shrouded in an indigo mist.

This monocle has 10 charges for the following properties. It regains 1d6 + 4 expended charges daily at dawn.

Spells. While wearing the monocle, you can use an action to expend some of its charges to cast one of the following spells from it, using your spell save DC: arcane eye (4 charges), detect thoughts (2 charges), or telepathic bond (5 charges).

Mental Assault. While wearing the monocle, you can use a bonus action to expend 3 of its charges to attempt to break a creature's concentration on a spell. The target must be within 60 feet of you, and you must be able to see it. When you do, make an Intelligence check contested by the target's spellcasting ability check. If you win the contest, the target's concentration on the spell ends.

The wizard knew what they were thinking. What they were focused on. He could feel the thread of their concentration in his mind, and knew he could tear it. It was almost too much information, almost too much power.

Almost.

Hey heroes! Thanks for your patience! Youtube and OBS updated and caused some real headaches this last hour.

Come hang out! Let's make this Monocle!

Let's start seeing with our all-seeing eyes and make something with divination magic this week! These are just ideas, and their finer mechanics can be revised during the livestream and during the balancing process.

I'll be updating this post just before 7:30pm EST tonight with the exclusive YouTube link to the stream. You should get an email alerting you to the change!

Ideas

Mindmaster's Monocle — a floating golden monocle that shows you things normally beyond your normal sight, including when a creature is concentrating on a spell. The lens can be used to cast divination spells such as detect thoughts, see invisibility, or telepathic bond. You can also use a bonus action to attempt to forcefully end another creature's concentration on a spell, without dealing damage to them by mentally disrupting their concentration.

Staff of the Overseer — A wood and stone staff with three floating stones carved in the shape of eyes above its head. You have advantage on Perception checks while holding the staff, and creatures within 30 feet of you can't be surprised while you're conscious. You can designate one of its stones to float above a willing creature you can see within 30 feet of you for 1 hour. You can look through the stones that are following a creature. After 1 hour, the stones magically reappear above the staff.

Status Signets — Paired magical rings (mood rings) that let other creatures whose rings are also bound to yours to know your health, status condition, or emotional state (no action required).

See you tonight!

Monocle is a must, double it up with the chronomancy eye piece too so you look like a super goof
