Workshop Week 11 — Meet the Give & Take!

Hey heroes! Thanks for hanging out this week for this item!  Here's the preview of the Give and Take!

See you next week!

Give and Take
Weapon (scimitar), very rare (requires attunement)

This pair of mythril (Give) and onyx (Take) scimitars are connected by a sturdy chain. While holding the scimitars in either hand, you gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with these magic weapons. When you engage in two-weapon fighting using both scimitars, you can add your ability modifier to the damage of the second attack.

The scimitars have a collective 10 charges and regain 1d6 + 4 charges each day at midday. While holding these weapons, you can expend 1 of their charges when you hit a hostile creature with a melee attack using one of the two blades. When you do, the area around the creature is suffused with an effect depending on the blade used to hit the creature:

Give. When you hit a target with Give and expend a charge from the blade, all other creatures within 5 feet of the target gain 2d6 temporary hit points that last for 1 minute.

Take. When you hit a target with Take and expend a charge from the blade, that target takes 2d6 necrotic damage, and all other creatures within 5 feet of it, including yourself, take half as much necrotic damage.

"Compromising is the base of all healthy relationships." The woman circled the man with a sweet smile, the swords readied in her hands. "I gave you an inch, you took a mile. I gave you my hand, you took my heart."
Her feet slid, shifting easily in the sand as she leveled her weapons.
"You gave me a chance to live, and now I will take your life."

Hey heroes!

Cool suggestions this week! It was a fun prompt, too, so I'm glad you had fun with these ideas! Using your suggestions, I've put together the item ideas below. Rarities at the end of each idea are suspected rarities and can be subject to change!

I'll be updating this post just before 7:30pm EDT tonight with the exclusive YouTube link to the stream. You should get an email alerting you to the change!

Item Ideas

• Bow of the Twilit Valkyrie — A bow that features angelic and hellish motifs. As an action, you can make a ranged attack with the bow and take a -5 penalty to the attack roll. If you hit, you can choose to either affect it with a guiding light effect that gives the next hit against it advantage, or a blinding shadow effect that gives the target's next attack disadvantage. Deals an extra 1d10 radiant or necrotic damage, depending on the effect you choose. (Rare, requires attunement)

• Give and Take — Two scimitars joined together by a mythril chain. One is made of a brilliant silver (Give), and the other a jet black onyx (Take). They share a collective 10 charges and regain 1d6 + 4 expended charges each day at dawn (Mid-day?). You can expend 1 charge when you hit a target with one of the blades to create an effect based on the blade that hit the target:
Give. All creatures within 5 feet of the target (but not the target itself) regain 2d6 hit points.
Take. The target takes 2d6 necrotic damage, and all creatures within 5 feet of it take half as much as well.
You can add your ability modifier to the damage of your offhand attacks with the weapon. Each blade has a +1 bonus. (Very rare, requires attunement)

• Soul Siphon — A choker that lets you convert portions of your soul into damage to smite your foes. When you hit a target, you can expend up to 3 charges to take 1d4 necrotic damage and deal 1d10 radiant damage for each charge spent.
Curse. When you first put on this choker, it latches onto your neck and can't be removed. Each time you use the choker, roll a d20. On a 1, you suffer from one of 4 death-like physical effects as your soul is split. The sould can be restored with a greater restoration spell or by not splitting it again for 1 week per time it's been split. If you have all four of these deathly effects, you die, and your soul can't be returned. (Rare, requires attunement)

So you can't choose the targets of give and take?

Correct! It's everything (including yourself!) adjacent to it.

Give and take sounds awesome. Maybe make it a Scythe to go with the necrotic touch? So cool for a cleric IMO

Give and take, just wow what a different idea absolutely love it! Would have liked to see a war pick or something like that made from bones of zombies and gives necrotic damage and has charges to divine smite undead or something like that. Awesome stuff as always griffon ❤️

oh, damn, why have I never thought of using a choker? brilliant item for an alchemist to become insane. Can transfer the effects of any potion or poison consumed by the wearer to another target. Heal or buff allies, poison enemies. Range could be line of sight. Standard saves apply, etc

My original idea may have been for the scimitar type of weapon, but wow that bow sounds incredible and flavorful; I love the idea of a celestial warlock having that as their pact weapon.
