Workshop Week 10 — What kind of item should we make?
Hey Heroes!
Get ready for the next Wednesday Night Elite Workshop poll! Please vote on a direction below and comment with a general idea of an item you have that would fit the direction you voted for! There will be a second poll tomorrow featuring up to three of your commented suggestions using the winning direction from the poll today.
I'll be going live tomorrow night, September 18th, at 7:30 pm EDT (GMT-4). You'll receive an email tomorrow evening with the exclusive Youtube link for you to come watch and participate! We'll figure out the exact mechanics together on stream before (and possibly while) I make the illustration for the most voted on item!
Remember that this will be an official Saddlebag item and will not credit anyone for the ideas generated through this process. Please only bring ideas you're comfortable with sharing to the workshop!

Amulet of Bitter Winds Wondrous item, rare (?) This amulet is forged after the cold heart of the Oni, and has 5 charges. As an action, you can expend charges to cast the following spells using the amulet as a focus: fly (self only, 1 charge), invisibility (2 charges), gaseous form (2 charges), or cone of cold (5 charges). The amulet regains 1d4 + 1 charges every dawn. If you expend the amulet’s last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the amulet fades into mist and is destroyed, though you are still under the effects of its curse. Curse. The amulet is cursed, and when you are attuned to it the curse extends to you. The amulet’s essence seeps into your bones, making you uncomfortably cold and numb. When you take a long rest, you must make a DC 10 Con saving throw or regain only one quarter of your hit dice, rounded down.
Boogeyman’s Kanabō Greatclub, very rare This studded greatclub possesses the soul of an oni that is trapped inside, granting the weapon disturbing powers. You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. Once a day, you can simultaneously cast the *alter self* and *enlarge/reduce* (enlarge only) spell on yourself as an action, taking on the appearance of the monstrous oni. Losing concentration on either spell causes both spells to fail simultaneously. While transformed in this way, your weapon attacks deal an extra 1d8 bludgeoning damage, and you have advantage on Charisma (Intimidation) checks. Additionally, the kanabō has five charges. It regains 1d4+1 charged at dawn. You can expend one charge as an action to cast one of the following spells: gaseous form, invisibility, sleep (3rd level), and darkness. Curse: The kanabō is cursed. Attuning to it curses you until you are targeted by the remove curse spell or similar magic. Until the curse it removed, you are unwilling to part with the weapon. Additionally, the tormented soul of the trapped oni taints people’s perception of you, causing anyone who sees you to be suspicious and wary of your intentions. You have disadvantage on Charisma (Deception and Persuasion) checks until the curse is removed.
Similar to Jherico’s suggestion, but I tapped into the mythological folklore of the Japanese oni:
Amulet of Oni Health: You can use a bonus action on your turn to regain 1d6 hit points. For the next minute, you regain 1d6 hit points at the start of each of your turns while you have more than 0 hit points. Once per day.
Glaive of the Fallen Oni: The glaive still has the lingering magic of its former oni owner. This glaive always resizes to fit the bearer, so small creatues have no disadvantage from wielding this weapon. Additionally, the weapon has 3 charges it regains daily at dawn. You can use an action to expend 2 charges on your turn to polymorph to a small or medium humanoid, or a large giant, for one hour. Other than your size, your Statistics are the same in each form. While polymorphed into a giant, weapon attacks using the glaive deal an extra damage die. You can also use charges to cast Charm Person (1 charge), Darkness (2 charges), Invisibility (2 charges), or Sleep (1 charge)
Hmm I guess Owlbear stuff is the most limiting, but that's what I like about it. A Belt of Owlbearstrength comes to mind. Or a wand that turns creatures into an Owlbear. A low level party can use it on their fighter, whilst a high level party could use it on a strong enemy. Maybe a Cursed item that makes it's wearer turn into an Owlbear at Night, both disturbing but practical for snuggle purposes. I want a quirky Owlbear item now :D
Oni's claw the magically preserved hand of an oni with the ability to transfer some if the natural regenerative powers to the holder. use a command word to activate and regain 10 hp/round for 1 minute. a finger withers away each time this ability is used until all 5 fingers are used, becoming a useless trinket. requires a CON save at the end of the minute to avoid gaining a physical characteristic of an Oni. d4 1 - blue/green skin 2- black/white hair 3 - add/change horns 4 - black teeth & finger nails
i love venom, sooooo.... Oozeskin amulet. as an action you cover yourself in a living ooze creature that lives in the amulet. your strength becomes 18 if not higher and you have advantage on strength checks and intimidation checks CURSE: the ooze is sentient, and wishes to feed. if you act in a way opposed to the oozes wishes you must make a dc 15 saving throw or be taken over by the ooze.
Ooze potion that lets you go wibbly wobbly and squeeze between small gaps.
armor, pudding plate (breastplate). +1 armor. Has a featherfall-like affect, but doesn't reduce the speed of the fall, just "inflates" before impact to soften the landing. Also grants resistance to slashing. Additionally, a piece can split off into a separate independent 'pudding pet', but you lose the +1 ac and resistances when you do so. The pudding pet can take the Pseudopod attack from the black pudding stat block (prob with reduced dmg).
For Oni, an item (mask? circlet? ring?) that allows you to cast enlarge/reduce on yourself that also allows you to change your appearance as per alter self. Ideal for disguising as a size category larger or smaller as necessary. Might be cursed to give you some semi-permanent physical feature of an Oni when the effect ends.
Oni stuff is plenty popular. They don't need more love, let's get som love for the Ooze. Like maybe a shield with a symbiotic ooze on it that harms attackers. Or a whip that is partially ooze.
Ooze buddies need more love: I'd like to see an item that's like a Flask of ooze that regrows each day, allowing you to pour it out as an acid and/or spray out as an attack? kinda like an alchemy jug but for oozes?
In the movie adaptation of The 13th Warrior, the enemies used clubs where the heads were fashioned out of bear claws. I'd love to see other types of things you could fashion from the other parts of the bear. A mask or other style of facial wear that maybe gives you one or both of the Keen features of the Owlbear. Maybe using the hide for some sort of cloak that gives advantage on certain actions related to mimicking an owlbear whether through sight or stench. Anything else really you can think of.
Mask of the Oni, Oni Glaive, or Oni Cloak. Mask gives Oni magic and probably allows you to speak Giant. Glaive could be stealth focused since Oni are deceptive tricksters who ambush people. And Oni Cloak would be some cloak of disguise that probably also grants cold resistance
