Workshop Week 08 — What kind of item should we make?

Hey Heroes!

Get ready for the next Wednesday Night Elite Workshop poll! Please vote on a direction below and comment with a general idea of an item you have that would fit the direction you voted for!  There will be a second poll tomorrow featuring up to three of your commented suggestions using the winning direction from the poll today.

I'll be going live tomorrow night, August 28th, at 7:30 pm EDT (GMT-4). You'll receive an email tomorrow evening with the exclusive Youtube link for you to come watch and participate! We'll figure out the exact mechanics together on stream before (and possibly while) I make the illustration for the most voted on item!

Remember that this will be an official Saddlebag item and will not credit anyone for the ideas generated through this process. Please only bring ideas you're comfortable with sharing to the workshop!

Let's make something cool together!

Featherquill Darts: These darts have advantage when attacking a creature wielding a sword. If it hits a creature wielding a sword, it deals an additional 1d4 damage and the creature has disadvantage on weapon attacks until the end of its next turn. These darts can also be used as writing quills. (Flavor text: The pen is mightier than the sword)

Carrion Crown: this cold iron and black feather circlet gives the wearer the cunning of a vulture. You gain advantage on perception checks that rely on sight or smell and survival checks made to find creatures with less than all of their hit points. In addition, the circlet has 6 charges that you can use to cast the following spells: hunter's mark (1 charge), hold person (2 charges), and vampiric touch (3 charges) with a spell save DC of 16 and a +8 to hit with spell attacks.

Carrion Cloak: this cloak gives the wielder the resilience and relentlessness of a vulture. You gain resistance to poison damage and have advantage on saves against poison and disease. Additionally, as a bonus action you can unfurl the cloak into a pair of wings, gaining a flying speed of 60 ft. When the wings are active, you can use a bonus action to move up to your speed towards an enemy with less than half of its hit points remaining. The wings last for one hour or until you use a bonus action to return them to cloak form.

Perhaps a spear with a gnarly scale of some reptilian beast as the spear head. It could have sharp, fractal edges that tend to splinter off when striking something, acting as shrapnel and hitting nearby enemies. No matter how many times it splinters, it still maintains the same size and weight.

Scale or leaf bracer (singular), adds minor AC but is sharpened to a point to allow for an offhand strike (d6?). effectively a stabbing shield. Can match the elemental typing based on chromatic dragon or nature flavour.

Magnificent Mockingbird's Featherquill Bow: This bow is laced with 6 feathers around it. You can use the feathers in place of arrows when making an attack. If you hit with an attack using a feather as an arrow, the feather marks the creature by writing an insult on it. You can cast Vicious Mockery (1st level, DC 14) on the marked creature as a bonus action. The mark lasts for one minute, or until you've used it to cast Vicious Mockery on the creature. Maybe can also shoot a feather to cast Illusory Script on a surface it hits. The bow regrows 1d4 + 2 feathers at dawn.

Prismatic Dragonscale Shield: This shield comes in the color of a chromatic or metallic dragon's scales. You gain resistance to damage associated with the dragon's color. After you take fire, cold, lightning, acid, or poison damage, you can use a reaction to change the shield's scale colors to match a dragon scale's color of the damage type. If two or more colors share the same damage type, you can choose which color the shield changes to (or you can mix two colors, provided they are of the same damage type, like silver and white). When you do, you lose the old resistance and gain new resistance based on the shield's new color(s).

Honestly? A magical feather boa that helps with performance checks or gives disadvantage on saves when they cast enchantment spells

"Fire off a Dragon's Back" - a mantle made of dragon scales. It's surprisingly flexible. When you are hit with an attack, you may use your reaction to activate the mantle. The scales immediately harden to stop the attack. The damage is reduced to 0, and a section of scales falls off of the mantle. This effect can be used 5 times before the mantle is destroyed.
