Bracers of Sharpened Wit
Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement)
While wearing these bracers, you deal an extra 1d6 psychic damage the first time you hit a creature with an attack using a weapon or an unarmed strike on each of your turns. The bracers have 3 charges for the following properties. They regain 1d3 expended charges daily at dawn.
Mind Splinter. Whenever you deal psychic damage with the bracers, you can expend 1 of their charges to increase that damage by an additional 1d6. When you do, the next attack roll or ability check made by that target before the end of its next turn is reduced by the same number rolled on the additional d6.
Quick Thinking. Whenever you make either an ability check or saving throw that uses Dexterity or Intelligence, you can use your reaction to expend 1 of the bracer's charges to use the other modifier for the roll.
Marius hunted his target from the shadows, outwitting and outmaneuvering them at every turn. When the steel of his dagger flashed and struck true, the effect was immediate. The bugbear lieutenant screamed in agony, flailing about as the blade tore its way through both flesh and mind. Pain and disorientation was all there was… then a slow fade to black.
