Divining Chain
Wondrous item, very rare
This magic silver chain has 8 charges, which are represented by the same number of twists at its bottom; the twists hold the chain together into a necklace. The chain regains 1d6 + 2 expended charges daily at dawn. If you expend the last charge, the chain comes untwisted. Then, roll a d20. On a 1, the chain becomes nonmagical.
While wearing the twisted chain, you can expend 1 or more of its charges to use the following properties.
Spells. You can use an action to expend 1 of the chain's charges to cast either detect evil and good, detect magic, or detect poison and disease from the chain. Alternatively, you can expend 2 of its charges to cast either locate animals or plants or locate object from the chain, or 4 charges to cast locate creature. Regardless of the spell that's cast from the chain, its ends magically drift and point toward the located target or the nearest detected one. A spell cast from the chain ends early if you're no longer wearing it.
Swap. Whenever you're targeted by an attack or spell, you can use your reaction to expend 3 of the chain's charges to force another creature that you can see (other than the attacker or spellcaster) within 60 feet of you to make a DC 16 Charisma saving throw. A creature can choose to fail the saving throw. On a failed save, you and the target both teleport, swapping places, provided there's enough space. The triggering attack or spell then targets the swapped creature instead of you.
You know that feeling when you're looking for something, and it's not where you left it, and then you come back later and SUDDENLY it's there?
