Ring of Twisted Blooms

Ring, rare (requires attunement)

This silver ring is dotted with ten tiny rubies. The ring can have a maximum of 10 charges; the ring loses any of its charges when you attune to it. For each charge the ring has, one of its rubies emits a faint glow. You can use an action to expend a Hit Die (without regaining any hit points) and cause the ring to gain a charge; if you have multiple sizes of Hit Dice, record how many charges the ring has of each Hit Die size.

As a bonus action, you can expend 2 or more of the ring's charges to immediately roll half as many Hit Dice (rounded up). You then regain a number of hit points equal to the total plus your Constitution modifier, without expending any Hit Dice. Alternatively, you can expend 6 of the ring's charges to cast the wall of thorns spell (save DC 15) from it.

The rose shall be watered by the blood on its thorns.

When you find it and attune to it for the first time it has zero charges. Ok. Out of combat, during a rest or while traveling, the player is going to max the charges and use it with max charges. I feel if the intended purpose is so have it at zero or near zero charges and instead the player gains charges when they deal damage to creatures this would make more sense. The way it is now the player has to use an action and bonus action just to gain one charge and later use two or more charges to gain hit points. Healing potions seem better up because they lack attunement. If this was changed to dealing damage gains a charge per round sorta deal it would be better used.

"the ring loses any of its charges when you attune to it." what does this mean?

Means that if you find it with charges, they disappear once you attune to it
