Having spoken to Mr Dithers earlier in the day, Blondie inquires about Dagwood's day at work while they sit at the dinner table...

Blondie: So, how was your day, dear?
Dagwood: Pretty uneventful.
Blondie: Ohhh-kaaay?  Mr Dither's didn't say anything to you?
Dagwood: Uhh, no...only kicked the back of my chair once today.  Why?
Blondie: He didn't talk to you about, say, raises or promotions?
Dagwood: That old skinflint?  Pffft!  That'll be the day.  If there's a way to take all of the money with you when you die, he'll figure out a way.
Blondie: Ohhh, that...that...THAT SONOFABITCH!
Dagwood: Errr...  Why do I get the impression that we're having two different conversations?
