Mega64 Record Club Ep. 41 - The B-52's - The B-52's (#198)
Hey Everyone! I am so sorry Garrett's mic wasn't on! I was thinking about re recording it solo but I still fell like even though you can barley hear him, he still adds so much to this episode. I'm super bummed this happened, I swear it won't happen again. Thanks for all the love and support with this show you have all been so wonderful as I stumble my way, figuring how to run a show by myself out.
Let's get weird Record Clubbers! In this episode I am again joined by Garrett Hunter to talk about the art band from Athens Georgia who became music icons. What do you think of them? Let find out!

I was expecting way more surf rock, but I was pleasantly surprised at the variety. I was especially surprised at the punk vibes that I got. Genuinely a 4.5-5/5 for me. I'm down for 6 minutes of rock lobster bb let's get it.
I like the b-52s air fighter reference commercialized glam rock influence
I listened to Cosmic Thing on cassette tape so many times on long trips as a kid. I think people really pigeonhole B-52’s as solely weirdo quirky surf rock because of the more popular songs, but they’re definitely more than that.
I think "Downtown" is the best minimalist rock song ever
This album was a bop; very much on Garrett's side of the fence.
Love them, quirky as hell but not so much that they get in the way of just having super catchy songs
Sorry you guys have to always deal with these technical issues but I could still hear you both so it’s all good! This album was just a vibe for me. I love the space age pop style and how off the wall it is but it also doesn’t blow me away at any points. 3/5. Planet Claire was my favorite song as well
The B-52s were my first ever concert at the wisconsin state fair in like 2001, but I cant even find proof they were ever there around that time
Welcome back Garrett! Record Club has been such a highlight this year. I love the B-52’s!! They make party music for kitschy weirdoes and it’s a blast. I love every song on this album except Hero Worship. And There’s a Moon in the Sky (Called the Moon) is just the funniest song title. Fred Schneider’s sprechgesang definitely isn’t for everyone but it is for me!! If you’re into this and want more, their next album Wild Planet is just as good, if not better. The B-52s have a very consistent discography, I don’t think you can go wrong listening to any of their albums. Next week will be a nice throwback, I was obsessed with Nevermind the Bollocks when I was 14.
Train to Bushong vibes for this episode. (not looking up the real name of the movie) I look forward to the Friendimension where you guys take turns smashing the defective equipment with sledgehammers.
The off-format Friendimensions are the best so yeah me too
Wasn't expecting Garrett on this one, very pleasantly surprised!!
