Mega64 Record Club Ep. 39- Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to Tell (#377)

In this episode we go back in time with Shawn to talk about the music scene in 2003! We get into the New York music back in the early 2000's and see what we think of it now. Let's see what we think of it together.

Man I only knew about their music from games and movies.

This album was alright. Didn't mind it. Not sure it's fully my style. 3.25/5. Maps is obviously an amazing song, my fave of the record. Also, that cure song is amazing! I'm definitely going to check out their stuff, as I've never heard any of their albums.

What a good string of albums, lately! This list kind of lost me for a bit with all the double albums in a row but Fever to Tell ruled. My sweetie was excited for this one, too. This album came out when I started really watching MTV and Fuse and music videos on demand so I was always aware of Yeah Yeah Yeahs but Maps kind of turned me off because I was impatient lol. Turning on Rich for the first time last week was crazy! Had I heard that, Y Control or Black Tongue before Maps, I would have absolutely listened sooner. (I still have a major soft spot for all the great garage rock/art punk singles that came out in the early 2000s. Lots of great songs with excellent music videos.) I saw a great tiktok the other day that mentioned Maps and how Kelly Clarkson borrowed the breakdown at 2 min in for Since U Been Gone - that was a real mindblower! Next week will be a good one! Queue up Step Into Christmas afterward for a little seasonal flair, as well. (I saw there’s a deluxe anniversary edition that’s 4 hours long…extra credit?)

If you haven’t already read it, there’s a great book called Meet Me In The Bathroom that’s an oral history of that whole 2000s NYC scene - the strokes, interpol, yeah yeah yeahs, moldy peaches, lcd soundsystem, even vampire weekend and bands towards the end of the decade — it’s really cool! Highly recommend

Okay wait I commented this before listening to this on my commute home and not even 5 minutes later you brought up the documentary and the book, lol. Still recommend!
