Hello everyone! This week on Record Club our host is sick and tries to find a cure by listening to the 1994 sophomore album from Pavement, Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. Did it work? Is this the 90's band Shawn's been looking for? Let's find out together

Just like Shawn, this totally would have fit with my early high school/buying my own albums for the first time era. It's cool this band made the list!
Shawn, please tell me you’ve listened to The Mars Volta. That’s probably my favorite band of all time.
Glad you’re feeling better, Shawn! I mentioned last week I was excited for this one because I listened to all of Pavement’s output earlier this year. Overall I like Wowee Zowee more but there’s a lot to like here. (Silence Kid, Stop Breathin, Cut Your Hair, Gold Soundz and Range Life are my favorite favorites). Brinx Job from Wowee Zowee sounds like something from the cartoon Home Movies. One cool thing showing how ‘important’ Pavement is: Stephen Malkmus has the honor of being referenced in the Barbie movie and one of the DJs in Radio Free Roscoe uses the pseudonym Shady Lane, taken from the song of the same name. Question for the Record Clubbers! Since it’s Spotify/Apple/YouTube/etc. Wrapped week, did any Record Club albums, songs, or artists make your Wrapped this year? (The Beach Boys was my number 5 artist because I listened to Wild Honey so much. Sweet Jane, Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic, Marquee Moon, Books About UFOs, Suspicious Minds, and Keep on Runnin’ made my top 100 songs too.) The Brady Bunch movies are no joke some of favorite comedies - I’m with you, they hold up and would make fun and funny Movie Clubs.
On the same page with you Shawn. Always heard of this band but never got into them until now. Really liked the first half and then it lost me a little on the second half but I did really love the final song. Was happy that they kinda sound like shit. I love that rawness lmao. 3.5/5 for me.
Great episode of Record Club! Hope you're feeling better dude. That was interesting about The Fall. I never thought of Pavement when listening to them. I guess I can kind of see it. Also I never knew that you had a hand in Atlas of Id, that was really cool to hear about. You shouldn't be so modest even if you were inexperienced lol As far as other Pavement, I still need to listen to Wowee Zowee, but Slanted and Enchanted is cool. You might like that one more. I notice a lot of people prefer that one to Crooked Rain. I personally prefer this one. My favorite songs on it are Gold Soundz, Range Life and Cut Your Hair
"darling dont u go and cut your hair" me @ emo shawn circa 2009
Really cool to see you checking out Pavement, Shawn. They have a terrific greatest hits comp called Quarantine the Past that has all their essential songs. Recommend that since I can imagine there'd be similar lulls for you with their other albums (still worth checking out).
Still not the biggest fan of this album, the first two tracks are absolute BANGERS but compared to their 1992 album and especially the EP released after; this pales in comparison. but that's comparing a good album to a phenomenal album and probably my favourite EP of all time, so. 🤷🏻♂️ rating is still high. 💿💿💿.𝟓/𝟓 and I can probably listen to 1 Ramones song every 5 years since it's all the same shit but I didn't mind this song. was cute.
