I don't like this album. Part of it is Lorde's voice. She kinda reminds me of Kilo Kish and I can't deal with that dramatic whispery bullshit. But yea, the title is accurate in that it is a very melodramatic album. Homemade Dynamite was ok. The second half of sober 2 was ok. This is hoooonestly like 0.5-1/5 for me. Lorde have mercy. Can't WAIT for Cuban Links. Nice palate cleanser.

I'm always stoked to see what will get picked next but I keep spoiling myself by scrolling the comments first!! This is a great album from Lorde, shouldn't be on this list. Shawn's call on "Sour" replacing/superseding it is dead-on.

I 100% agree with Shawn on this one. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good imo. 2/5. Really looking forward to Raekwon next week. I’ve been hooked on the wu ever since we listened to 36 chambers.

I’ll have more to say about Melodrama later (it grew on me) but I have always heard the South Side/Solar Power similarity!!! (Wet Dream sounds like iPod commercials to me - maybe a little Ting Tings-y? Also a little like that Barbra Streisand wooo woooo wooo woooooo song)

Listening to this album felt like I was eavesdropping on someone with a more interesting life than mine. Which, duh - but I felt like I shouldn’t be allowed to peek in. I was a big fan of Green Light, Homemade Dynamite, Liability, Supercut and Perfect Places. Supercut stood out as like, a ‘modern’ way of looking at a relationship. I can’t picture anyone using that terminology in a pre-2010s world. That said, it reminded me of when you can’t fall asleep because your mind is racing going over all the terrible/embarrassing/etc moments you’ve had. Part of me wonders if Melodrama was included as a way to give Jack Antonoff a bit of a nod - I’ll be keeping an eye out on the remaining ‘new’ picks to see how often he pops up. I suspect we’ll see more since he’s a bit of an it-guy right now!

9 days ago? The record club timeline is in absolute shambles... This album will stick with me for a long time. I fucking CRIED at Liability (Reprise), this record has better storytelling and progression than 95% of the films that have come out since it released. 💿💿💿💿+/𝟓

also South Side and Solar Power both have the exact same little shaky maraca + boom/clap sounds
