I was wondering who was going to bring up Shaymalan stole the plot from an Are You Afraid of the Dark episode, then I had to look up that this was just an internet legend he refuted in 2017. The episode still holds up great.
Totally agree with Shawn, I wouldn't really classify this as horror either. There's a couple of creepy moments with the ghosts, but its more of a thriller for me.
You guys were talking about the studios keep giving him money - while that was true for a few movies, he's pretty well-known as a self-financing guy now.
I would call Get Out horror and that was nominated for Best Picture.
