I want you guys to do Your Name so bad, I feel like it’s the perfect anime movie for Shawn and I’d love to hear Rocco’s take on it and its impact on culture

Shame you guys didn't enjoy it too much, I had a lot of fun with it. It's nice to get a hopeful space adventure now and then. Can't say I don't disagree with your thoughts, just didn't bother me as much. In terms of reviews, I like a good mix of new and old. I don't usually watch a review if I haven't seen it so if you guys get to a new film before me I'll wait until I get around to it. Could be a good motivator too though to get around to movies faster. Maybe 80/20 split in favour of new films?

I actually really like the mix of new and old movies. This podcast has been a great avenue for me to discover some old movies that I'd probably would have otherwise written off or just never gotten around to watching. So I'd really like it if you kept it kind of a 50/50 mix. It's way more fun that way.

I like a mixed bag of old and new movies/shows. Love hearing your guys thoughts on new stuff, but also love seeing you guys talk about something like Empire Strikes Back, Rocky Horror, Home Alone, etc.

I’m one of the people who loved this movie. I might be giving it too much credit but the use of humour spoke to me as it all stemmed from Ryan’s character and felt like a purposeful front from him to hide fear, sadness and mask social awkwardness. That extra layer made it endearing and relatable to me. Also the mundanity of the issue, to me made it feel more grounded which helped me connect with it more. I also think the themes are needed more than ever right now. Two different factions coming together to help each other and prioritising intellect was so nice to see pushed. Idk, maybe it’s a basic message but the way it was conveyed made me super emotional. I suppose it just ticked a lot of boxes for me.

Wow I feel vindicated! I do not understand the glazing /5 star/ perfect reaction this got, it's just aggressively fine and forgettable. Pretty on the big screen though Please continue to review a mix of old and new movies! I know I always say this, but I really really REALLY love when you bring on other members of Mega64 or guest stars to these, especially when it's a movie that person really cares about (like Garrett and Rocky Horror)

I like when you guys do newer movies, as someone who watches a lot of them lol

On the conversation at the end- Personally I prefer when you guys do the newer movies, it just feels a little more relevant and engaging for me

On the topic of rocco finding the science of them experimenting on the astrophages being boring and somewhat uninteresting/anti-climactic: yeah real science is just kinda like that. I felt super seen in those scenes being a chemist professionally. It didnt need to be made epic or dramatic, and it wasnt.

wow surprised you guys didn't like this one, and shrugged it off as a kids movie. What I think I liked about this movie is how its 'hope'core. So many sci-fi movies are depressing and dystopian futures and its cool to see competent scientists solving something. We need more scientific competence like the 'scully' effect caused in the 90s. I anticipate this one will be a cult classic for years to come, as it seems like people either love it or hate it and there is no in between.

Personally, I wish you guys talked about more classic movies. Old or modern. Ideally though, I think 50/50 classics and new movies would be the most fair. Also, I'd like to suggest either Millennium Actress or Redline if you guys end up watching anime movies.

I almost sent you guys my copy of REDLINE to consider for movie club but then saw how expensive the blu-ray had gotten. If you're doing anime month I highly recommend that, I think shawn has a good chance of digging it just because the animation is so insane

Surprised Rocco didn’t begin his love for Ryan gosling in either episodes of Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of the Dark! Didn’t watch this movie, but I’ll weigh in on recent movie reviews by saying I can’t wait for the Tony review as it might be my favorite movie this year.

R
Ryan V. · August 24, 2026

By far my favorite movie of the year so far. I honestly was skeptical due to the amount of praise it was getting but it really did live up to the hype in my opinion.
